Who wants to shake hands with a skeleton?
~ Dr. Phosphorus right before killing Rupert Thorne and his entire family.
I always love a good barbecue.
~ Doctor Phostphorus.

Dr. Alexander Sartorius, better known later on as Dr. Phosphorus, is one of the tritagonists of the 2024 adult DC animated series Creature Commandos , the first installment of the DC Universe.

He's a former scientist who's betrayed by crime lord Rupert Thorne after a deal goes wrong and ends up left for dead after being tossed into a radiation treatment machine. However, instead of being killed, he instead ends up becoming a mutated skeleton with radioactive powers. This event, as well as the loss of his family, drove Alex insane, turning him into a sociopath who killed Rupert in revenge and took over his criminal empire. However, he's soon apprehended by Batman and later recruited as a member of the Creature Commandos.

He's voiced by Alan Tudyk who also voiced Alistair Krei in Big Hero 6 and its spinoff series.

Appearance[]

Before his mutation, Alex was a caucasian man with blond hair and blue eyes. After his mutation, his appearances changed to that of a skeleton with a glowing green hue. When using his powers, his glow increases significantly.

Personality[]

Before his mutation, Alex was a honest family man who loved his family dearly. Even though he knew working with Rupert Thorne was wrong, he had good intentions as he hoped his research could help people. However, after Rupert betrays him, tragically murdering his wife and son, he goes insane, becoming a sadistic criminal willing to kill whoever he needs to accomplish his goals. He also has a twisted sense of humor as seen when he threw a punchline when impaling a Son of Themyscira.

Despite this, he can be affable towards his allies, even though he's also cynical and can be a jerk towards them, acting sarcastic and making quips at times. This attitude extends to himself however as he makes self deprecating jokes about his skeleton appearance and how people can't tell what kind of expression he's making. Although affable, he can also be rash and selfish as seen when he tries to kill Amanda Waller, not thinking about how he was potentially endangering his comrades.

For all his faults, he still has positive qualities, as seen when he reflects on his mistake of trying to steal the nano-bomb remote detonator from Flag and getting scolded by him for it. He can also get along well with his teammates if he really tries, which is seen with his interactions with Bride, how he amicably patted G.I Robot's shoulder, or when he was in prison, took Nosferata's meal and gave it to Nina after she was bullied by the vampire inmate and Congorilla. He also spared Yana and her family as the girl reminded him of his own son, showing the man he was before the mutation is still inside him.

Powers and Abilities[]

Powers[]

  • Radioactive Skeleton Physiology: Sartorius, while still human, was abandoned in an incredibly radioactive machine that left him exposed to raw radioactive energy. This caused his body to mutate and distort beyond natural means, alongside making him a living radioactive generator.
    • Radiation Manipulation: Sartorius can control and manipulate the radiation he produces.
      • Radiation Generation: Sartorius was transformed into a living nuclear hazard. He gave off dangerous amounts of radiation even passively that makes it lethal to be near him let alone touch without some form of protection.
        • Energy Projection: Sartorius can manipulate this radiation for various effects. At first, he could only project this radiation from his hands as energy beams or fireballs. As his powers grew increasingly unstable, he was able to emit wide range waves of radiation.
        • Thermokinesis: His powers caused him to be extremely hot in the literal sense. Sartorius is incapable of feeling heat.
      • Fire Manipulation:
    • Translucent Skin:
    • Superhuman Strength:
    • Superhuman Durability:
    • Superhuman Endurance:
    • Superhuman Speed:
    • Superhuman Agility:

Trivia[]

  • He's jokingly called Jack Skellington and Ghost Rider by Bride due to his skeleton appearance. Funnily enough, Ghost Rider is from DC's main rival Marvel.
