If I could have your attention... I'm Doctor Voodoo, and I'd like to welcome you all to the first year of Strange Academy.
~ Doctor Voodoo.
I am not the Sorcerer Supreme you are accustomed to matching. I am -- Doctor Voodoo! The Gunner of God -- when I roar the Earth trembles!
~ Doctor Voodoo

Dr. Jericho Drumm, also known as Brother Voodoo and later as Doctor Voodoo, is a character and superhero from Marvel comics.

He is a supernatural champion skilled in communicating with the dead. His late twin brother's spirit is fused with his own. Initially skeptical, Jericho rejected the mystic traditions of his Haitian village to become a renowned scholar in America. Born in Haiti, he left for America with aspirations to become a doctor. However, upon learning that his brother was dying due to a Voodoo Curse, Jericho sought revenge by mastering Voodoo under Papa Jambo's guidance. This transformation made him an invaluable ally to Doctor Strange, Black Panther, and the Avengers.

He was created by Len Wein and Gene Colan, and first appeared in Strange Tales #169 in June of 1973.

Conception[]

A fictional character in American comic books published by Marvel Comics, he first appeared in Strange Tales #169 (September 1973) as Brother Voodoo. Created by Stan Lee, Roy Thomas, Len Wein, and artist John Romita Sr., he later assumed the title of Doctor Voodoo after replacing Doctor Strange as Sorcerer Supreme in The New Avengers #53 (July 2009). Interestingly, the title was originally held by his twin brother Daniel, whose ghost he now controls.

Biography[]

Origin[]

Jericho Drumm, raised in Haiti amidst voodoo and magic, was the heir to a lineage of voodoo magicians. However, he rejected this heritage, leaving the family legacy for his twin brother, Daniel. Despite being identical twins, Jericho differed significantly from his brother. While Daniel embraced and preserved the family legacy through stories and books on magic, Jericho dismissed these traditions as mere legends and superstitions, fueled by his skepticism.

As Daniel immersed himself in magical literature, Jericho shielded his gentler brother from bullies. Jericho left his homeland, obtaining a psychology degree in New York City, distancing himself for 12 years. Upon his return, he found Daniel, now the Supreme Houngan, in conflict with a sorcerer empowered by Damballah. Near death, Daniel entrusted Jericho with avenging him.

Under the tutelage of Papa Jambo and acknowledging his own talents and genius, Jericho became the successor as the last lord of Loa. Bound to Daniel's spirit, he assumed the roles of Brother Voodoo and Supreme Houngan. In a decisive confrontation, Brother Voodoo exposed Damballah as Zobop, utilizing Loa powers to secure victory.
