That... thing... CatNap. The Prototype is his god, and this is what he does to heretics. These little toys follow CatNap to avoid that very fate- and in return, they are fed. We tried to fight it, The Prototype's control. I'm... the last of the Smiling Critters.
~ DogDay to the Player.

DogDay is a supporting character of Chapter 3: Deep Sleep of the 2021 indie horror game Poppy Playtime.

He was an experiment of Playtime Co. who proclaims themselves as the initial leader of the Smiling Critters. Following the Hour of Joy, he was the sole survivor of his gang, eventually torn down to half of his true self having been imprisoned and mutilated by CatNap.

He is voiced by Baldwin Williams Jr.

Appearance[]

DogDay embodies an anthropomorphic canine with vibrant orange fur that harmonizes with his expressive black eyes, droopy ears, and sleek black nose. His unique features include a sunshine-yellow outer mouth and belly, accented by touches of Golden-Brown on his paws, ears, and the left side of his face. Like other Smiling Critters, DogDay maintains a perpetual wide, toothless grin, with his inner mouth concealed in shadow. A striking black zipper adorns his center, showcasing a captivating gold sun pendant surrounded by radiant orange rays.

In the present, his appearance is far more downtrodden. Severed at the waist, he is reduced to a slender, worn torso held together with a tan leather belt, likely to prevent his innards from spilling out. Large black stitches connect his arms to his body, which terminate in two massive human-like hands. Like CatNap, his black pupils feature white irises, and he possesses large, empty sockets devoid of eyes (until inhabited by Mini Smiling Critters). His gaping mouth lacks any discernible teeth.

Personality[]

Contrary to how his cartoon persona is portrayed, DogDay presents a subdued, monotonous persona, possibly stemming from his prolonged captivity at the Playtime Co. Factory. Despite his confinement, DogDay possesses extensive knowledge about CatNap, his motivations, and other entities such as the Mini Smiling Critters and their perspectives on CatNap, as conveyed through DogDay's monologue. In his dismembered state, DogDay is limited to simple head movements and turns, yet he exhibits an awareness of his plight and prioritizes the protagonist’s situation over his own in his final moments.

Biography[]

Either during or after The Hour Of Joy, Dogday was ripped in half in attempt to stop CatNap’s doings along with the other Bigger Body Smiling Critters. He is strapped, hanging by belts and shackles to be tortured by CatNap for being one of the heretics.

In Poppy Playtime Chapter 3, he is found by the unnamed intruder after completing the puzzle in the play structure. He notifies the protagonist about CatNap’s and Mini Smiling Critters’ motives and how their system works and to get out while they can before the Mini Critters come through both prison holes, left and right. Going through his upper half to overweigh the belts and fall to chase the protagonist, crawling at a fast speed until you are able to reach an elevator out Playhouse’s tunnels leaving Dogday’s remains eaten by the Mini Critters.

Trivia[]

  • Some fans have theorized that Dogday is actually Rowan Stoll, a Playtime CO. worker who was aware about the experiments happening before being killed by Boxy Boo.
