~ Book trailers' description of Dog Man. |
Gregory Knight, better known as Dog Man, is the titular main protagonist of the franchise of the same name.
He is somewhat of a mutant of a character, having the same head of Gregory "Greg" Knight, or just Greg the Dog, as well as the body of Officer Knight, a tough police officer who had a brain death after a tragic bomb incident. He is now the best officer in the world who has defeat numerous villains and is also the adoptive father of Li’l Petey.
He was portrayed by Brian Owen in the musical, and in Home Base, his vocal effects were provided by Patrick Hickey Jr., who also voiced Oswald in Five Nights at Freddy's: Into the Pit, and Peter Hastings will voice him in the upcoming 2025 film adaptation of the series.
Appearance[]
Dog Man appears to be a regular man with a dog's head. He wears a cop suit, with the badge in the middle of his shirt. He wears a cop hat with a badge in the middle as well.
As Bark Knight, he wears a blue shirt with a bone emblem engraved into the middle, as well as pants of a slightly darker colour. He wears a golden belt with the letter 'D' carved to signify his name, as well as boots of the same dark blue sheen as his mask and cape. He wears goggles of a lighter-blue color at the strap, and sometimes carries a weapon made of two bones connected to each other, resembling a nun-chuck.
As the Scarlet Shedder, Dog Man wears a dark blue suit with a bow tie while at Chief's wedding, as well as pants of the exact same color of his suit. This ended up getting dyed red along with his own skin due to tomato juice. He now wears an abnormally long and massive cape of a deep maroon color to match his current skin tone, as well as boots of roughly the same shade as his cape. He puts on long red gloves and has glasses of thick black frames and opaque lenses shaped inwards to give him an intimidating appearance. The Scarlet Shedder carries a long bone that can now extend to become a propeller to help him fly.
On the front cover of Dog Man: The Scarlet Shedder, he dons the exact same superhero outfit in the previous paragraph, but is not shown to wear the same suit from Chief's wedding, and instead is replaced with an ordinary crimson-colored shirt.
Personality[]
Being Officer Knight’s body with Greg the Dog’s head, his personality is that of Greg's. Dog Man is very playful and likes to greet others with a friendly lick and jump, but always seem sad when Chief yells at him for being too playful on him and others, or if his dog-like instincts overpower his usually cheerful attitude and he causes chaos. When trouble arises, Dog Man acts seriously, just like Officer Knight did. He always gets the job done, no matter what it takes. He is also very cheerful and happy when nothing bad is happening in the city. He is loving and caring to everyone, especially Li'l Petey, whom he adopted. He also cares for Petey, especially at times when he is not acting cunning and evil, such as in the 5th Dog Man book, Dog Man: Lord of the FLEAS, and has stopped viewing him as an enemy ever since.
Relationships[]
Family[]
As Dog Man has the relative same personality of Gregory "Greg" Knight and is somewhat the same character just with Officer Knight's body, his only real family is the latter, who Greg is shown to enjoy as his master and the two were best of cops until a bomb blew up the dynamic duo.
While Officer Knight is his only biological family, he does have an adoptive son with the name of Li'l Petey, who is the biological son of Petey the Cat. The two of them never weren't friends ever since they met, truly showing their father-son bond.
Trivia[]
- Dog Man's original appearance was him wearing a cape, but it changed later on to his iconic cop uniform.
- He is the only character out of the entire series to appear on the cover of every Dog Man book.
- For an unknown reason, he is almost completely absent from the Cat Kid Comic Club spin-off book series besides a few comics made by Gilbert and Curly. Due to this, he is shared with Chief for having the 3rd-to-most appearances of the entire franchise.
