Dogfight is a supportive character in the Transformers franchise, especially Generation One. The original was based on a figure released in 1988.

Dogfight first appeared in Issue #46 among a group of Autobots being held prisoner on Cybertron. A flashback in Issue #48 revealed he had served under Optimus Prime in the early days of the war on Cybertron, accompanying him in his search for the Underbase and defeating one of the traps guarding it by severing cables with his wings.
The UK-exclusive story "Race With the Devil" saw Dogfight reunited with fellow Triggerbots Backstreet and Override. Together, they were sent to follow Dreadwind and Darkwing to Earth. There, they discovered the pair had been sent to retrieve the remains of Starscream, only to find him possessed by the Underbase. Dogfight became increasingly frustrated that Backstreet prioritised protecting human archeologist Susan Hoffman and her party, at one point attacked Starscream on his own only to be easily swatted aside. Backstreet was successful in both saving the humans and neutralising the Underbase threat, but the trio failed to stop Dreadwind and Darkwing escaping with their target. However, Dogfight accepted Backstreet had done the right thing.
His last appearance in the regular comic was in US Issue #63. Again working with Backstreet and Override, Dogfight was one of the teams sent out to search for the Creation Matrix. Surveying the planet Cheyene, Dogfight saw an apparently innocent child being pursued by a group of horseriders and rushed to the boy's defence, forcing the other Triggerbots to follow suit. The boy's father Hud invited the trio back to the family's homestead where they showed increasing signs of forgetting their identities. Dogfight acted as Hud's bodyguard and, when he was attacked by Thunderwing's Decepticons, had no idea who they were or that he was their target rather than Hud. However, the incident jogged his memory and he confronted Hud, who admitted they were Vrobian psychic vampires who had slowly been draining the Triggerbots' energy. Hud mocked the idea that the three were warriors but Dogfight quickly proved him wrong by causing Hud's weapon to explode, killing him. Backstreet and Override killed the rest of the family in self-defence, leaving them to reflect how they'd lost the peace they'd briefly felt.
The UK annual text story "Trigger-Happy" saw Dogfight working under Optimus Prime on Earth and taking part in an attempt to ambush Ruckus and Crankcase. Backstreet panicked on seeing the two had air cover and tried to warn the other Autobots by opening fire against orders, fleeing in the resulting melee for fear of punishment. Dogfight helped track his friend down so Optimus Prime could talk him into returning.
