Domino: I'm lucky.
Deadpool: If you're so lucky, then what are you doing here with us?
Domino: I don't know yet.
Deadpool: What's that supposed to mean?
Domino: It means that I don't know yet. But there's a reason why I'm here, and I'll know when I know. Everything usually works out for me.

Lady Luck, take the wheel.
~ Domino

Domino (real name Neena Thurman), is one the three tritagonists of the 2018 film Deadpool 2. She is a mutant mercenary with powers of luck and probability manipulation, and is a member of X-Force. She joins the team under the leadership of Deadpool to fight against the Headmaster and the Juggernaut, and help Deadpool prevent Firefist from being a villain.

She is portrayed by Zazie Beetz who also played Diane Foxington in The Bad Guys.

Biography[]

X-Men: Days of Future Past[]

In the Rogue Cut, a picture of Domino is shown as one of the victims of the Sentinels.

Deadpool 2[]

Domino grew up in the Essex House for Mutant Rehabilitation, and when she left, Domino always knew that he would return one day.

She first appears as one of the new recruits for X-Force, the team Deadpool is putting together to protect Russell Collins from Cable. Due to the abstract nature of her powers, Deadpool was incredulous, yet because of them, he allowed her to join the team.

Following a botched aerial jump, Domino and Deadpool are left as the only survivors of the group. She continues to assist Wade throughout the film, and ultimately helps liberate the mutant orphanage where she was tortured as a child.

Her luck allowed her to subconsciously create an escape route for the orphans, as a bus thrown by Juggernaut crashed into the building, making a convenient slide to freedom. She was also able to guess the security code for the power-nullifying collar Deadpool put on for his display of noble attempted sacrifice, which defied probability by being only one number.

Personality[]

Turns out Domino's a bit of a badass, and maybe, possibly mildly lucky.
~ Deadpool

Domino comes across as overconfident and cocky due to her powers making things always work out in her favor. While she is usually annoyed by Wade’s constant jokes and joking nature she seems to trust in him and follows his leadership for the most part. However she's also heroic and selfless as she rescues the children from the very orphanage she was tormented at.

Domino experienced significant trauma from her childhood imprisonment in the orphanage, yet she remained aloof about it, with it rarely crossing her conscious mind, since she didn't realise the site was the one from her past until physically being there. Her indifference may be a coping mechanism, and possibly also a result of her luck powers, since she knows that everything would inevitably work out in her favour.

Powers and Abilities[]

Powers[]

  • Probability Field Manipulation: Domino has the mutant ability to subconsciously and psionically initiate random telekinetic acts that affect probability in her favor by making improbable (but not impossible) things occur within her line of sight or around an unverified radius of influence, thus causing her to have "good luck" and her opponents to have "bad luck." This phenomenon can be anything from an enemy's equipment failure to hitting just the right switch with a stray shot to shut down an overloading nuclear reactor. Her powers can also be applied to non-kinetic improbable events, such as guessing an encrypted vault code on her first try. Her abilities also stem from her own actions, and as a byproduct, Domino’s abilities give her enhanced reflexes, senses, and physical mobility. However, Domino’s field affects only her probability field, and can only grant good effects on herself meaning it is somewhat inadvisable to include her in group battles, since her powers would indiscriminately affect both friend and foe alike to bring her benefit at their expense.

Abilities & Skills[]

  • Master Marksman: Domino is extremely skilled in hitting her targets from a long range with accuracy.
  • Master Martial Artist: Domino is a highly capable martial artist able to subdue many foes.

Trivia[]

  • In the Rogue cut of X-Men: Days of Future Past, there is a picture of Domino as one of the victims of the Sentinels.
  • In the comics, Domino's discoloration around her left eye was a black tattoo, but the film version appears to have it as a result of the skin condition vitiligo, while the rest of her skin was normal skin colour. The rest of her skin was milk white in the comics. Her actual ethnicity is nebulous.
  • Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Kerry Washington, Janelle Monáe, Sofia Boutella, Sienna Miller, Lizzy Caplan, Mackenzie Davis, Ruby Rose, Kelly Rohrbach, Eve Hewson, Stephanie Sigman and Sylvia Hoeks were being considered for a screen test of the character before Zazie Beetz was cast.
