Donovan Galpin is a major character in the 2022 Netflix TV Show Wednesday. He is the sheriff of Jericho town as well as the widowed father of Tyler Galpin. In the series, he investigates the mysterious murders and clashes several times with Wednesday Addams with whom he sometimes cooperates.
He is portrayed by Jamie McShane and by Ben Wilson as a young adult.
History[]
In the past, Donovan married Francoise who was a Hyde and together they had one child, Tyler. Then Françoise died and Donovan became distant with his son. He was also worried that he didn't know if Tyler was a Hyde like his mother. He took refuge in his job as a sheriff and he also has a history with Gomez Addams whom he seeks to arrest on the assumption that he killed Garrett Gates.
In the present, Sheriff Galpin investigates the mysterious murders and he assumes that a bear is responsible. He also meets Wednesday Addams and quickly realizes that her father is Gomez and that he should be in jail for murder. He adds that he will keep an eye on her due to her being Gomez's daughter. During the series, he continues to investigate and he is sometimes approached by Wednesday who is also looking for answers on her side. In "You Reap What You Woe", Galpin goes to Nevermore Academy to arrest Gomez Addams thinking he has irrefutable proof that he killed Garrett Gates. However, Wednesday and Morticia clear the case and Gomez is released from prison.
Later in the series, Tyler gets a call from Wednesday asking to go out with him, but his father tells him to beware of her. When Tyler provokes him by talking about his mother, Galpin dodges the subject but claims that he loved his wife more than Tyler could imagine. Angry, he blames Wednesday who takes him to the Gates house where she found evidence but suddenly disappeared. Impatient, the sheriff forbids Wednesday to see Tyler again and to meddle in the investigation again.
Despite his warnings, Mercredi continues the investigation and is mistakenly convinced that Xavier Thorpe is the Hyde monster. She alerts the sheriff who arrests and imprisons Xavier. However, it turns out that Tyler is the culprit and Wednesday captures the teenager in order to get him to confess, but Galpin interrupts the interrogation and takes Wednesday to the police station. There, she warns the sheriff knowing he knew the truth about Son, but the man denies this and simply asks Wednesday to leave. However, Galpin ends up taking matters into his own hands and goes to the forest. He sees Tyler in his Hyde form fighting a werewolf Enid. The sheriff then shoots the Hyde asking if it is indeed Tyler. At the end of the fight, Galpin is last seen holding Tyler's weakened body back to human form.
