Biography[]
Donquixote Rosinante is Donquixote Doflamingo's younger brother, who Trafalgar Law holds a deep respect for. He died 13 years prior to the Dressrosa arc, and for that Law decided to take revenge on Doflamingo. He ate the Calm-Calm Fruit (Nagi Nagi no Mi — "Nagi" means "silence"), which gives him abilities related to soundproofing.
Born to the Donquixote family, his family chose to renounce their status as Celestial Dragons, causing the other Nobles to show disdain towards them. Their life has not gotten any better after withdrawing their noble status, which especially caused hatred towards the ordinary civilians, who started a mob to scrutinize them, leading to Donquixote Homing's eldest son to detest him. Doflamingo chose to take his father's head to regain his status which was denied whilst Rosinante was taken by Admiral Sengoku to be adopted as his son and later on, to the Marines.
Rosinante was enlisted in the ranks, reaching commander, choosing to reunite with his older brother (now a smuggler and a pirate) to keep track of his activities as an undercover informant and feigning muteness, ultimately becoming one of the top officers of the Donquixote Pirates. At some time, he would meet a young Trafalgar D. Water Law, who has shown rudeness to him. Despite his transgressions, Law grew up in the family, having trained by the pirates. Later, Rosinante spoke to Law in a private setting via his Devil Fruit abilities, he reveals that he was pretending to be mute with the intention to stop his older brother. Law chose to ran away to report his treason to Doflamingo, but ultimately never come into fruition as he chose to turn a blind eye instead.
As Law's illness worsens, Rosinante took on the journey to find a cure, having visited multiple hospitals who refused to treat him. Six months of his journey went to guilt as he could only feel bad that he is unable to cure Law until he was contacted by Doflamingo, inquiring Law's status, who confirms that no progress has been made. Doflamingo then reveals that the Diez Pirates are selling the Ope Ope Fruit to the Marines, and the Donquixote Pirates are planning to steal it. The news shocked him greatly, causing him to hang up and rejoice that he had the means to treat Law of his illness, aware that by doing so will cost him his life. On the other hand, Rosinante informed Sengoku of Doflamingo's plans to steal the Devil Fruit and the trade will occur at Rubeck Island within three weeks.
They traveled to Minion Island and began the operation to steal the Devil Fruit. Rosinante uses his Devil Fruit to stealthily pass through the pirates guarding the Devil Fruit, outsmarting his adversaries before escaping. After offering the Devil Fruit to Law much to his concern, Rosinante hands a secret letter to him to be sent to a Marine officer so they could leave the island safely. As the young child hands the letter to a Marine, Rosinante was immediately shocked that the letter was passed to none other than Vergo, who was the Marine spy for the Donquixote Pirates. He had also unintentionally revealed that he wasn't mute to begin with, earning the spy's wrath as he brutally beats him. Knowing that the other members of the Donquixote Pirates are aware of his treachery, Rosinante attempts to escape with Law, however, Doflamingo uses his Devil Fruit powers to prevent anyone from escaping the island, although not aware that Law had already eaten the very Devil Fruit they are looking for.
Rosinante then orders Law to hide from a chest while using his Devil Fruit to ensure no one can overhear him, promising that he will survive. the Donquixote Pirates began violently attacking him for his betrayal, Rosinante then reveals his Marine rank to his older brother, indirectly apologizing to Law that he lied about not being part of the Marines, Doflamingo then demanded to him about the Devil Fruit's whereabouts, which he replies that Law had already eaten it and escaped safely to misinform him for the latter. They managed to intercept a comms revealing that a young boy was taken into the Marines' custody, which surprises Rosinante for the coincidence.
Knowing that his fate is sealed, Doflamingo fatally shot Rosinante multiple times who noted that his younger brother couldn't fire back as he is too kind like their father. As Rosinante lies on the floor, he could only think of Law's safety before succumbing to his injuries with a smile.
Rosinante's death and his kindness became the driving motivation for Trafalgar Law to avenge him by defeating Doflamingo. His death also devastated his adoptive father, Sengoku.
Personality[]
Corazon was genuinely broken-hearted to hear Law's tragic story and not only felt no ill will after being stabbed by him but also traveled for six months to find the boy a cure for his deadly disease. He admitted his empathy for the boy and broke down, which was heard by a touched Law who warmed up to him.
Rosinante genuinely inherited his parents' kindness. He also sees his older brother as a horrible monster, unable to grasp how his parents birthed and sought to take him down to save him from himself. Likewise, Corazon's life goal was to keep his brother's madness in check, but when he met Law, he only felt compassion for someone so tragic. He not only saved Law from his illness, he kept Law from becoming just like his evil brother Doflamingo, with his last breath claiming Law was free from him.
Rosinante held no genuine attachment to the founding members of the Donquixote Pirates, hiding his true nature from them and sought to stop them. Originally, it was under the impression that he despised children, as whenever one approached the gang, he would violently reject them. However, rather than hating children, he had compassion for them, so tried to prevent them selling their lives for his brother's evil ambitions; when they persist regardless, like Law had, he understood the depth of their desperation, thus tried to help them - typically detached, but became invested in Law's safety, finding himself as a caregiving figure due to a desire to help him.
Rosinante was always clumsy, occasionally burning himself or tripping. In fact, this was the only genuine part of him that he showed the Donquixote Pirates.
While he wasn't able to stop his brother's evil deeds, he inspired Law to take up his goal instead, culminating in the Dressrosa arc thirteen years later and the end of Doflamingo's reign of terror. Even pointing a gun at Doflamingo, he was unable to pull the trigger because he was too kind-hearted.
