Dr. Brief (ブリーフ, Burīfu Hakase^?) is a supporting character in the Dragon Ball franchise. He is the founder and president of Capsule Corporation, being the inventor of the in-universe famous Hoi-Poi Capsules, as well the father of Bulma and the grandfather of Trunks and Bulla.

He was voiced by late Jōji Yanami in most media and Ryōichi Tanaka in Resurrection 'F' and Kakarot in the Japanese version, Paul Dobson in the first half of DBZ and Scott McNeil in the second half in the Ocean Group dubs, Chris Forbis in DB and DBZ and Mark Stoddard in DBZ Kai and DBS in the Funimation dub, Corby Proctor in the Blue Water dub and Paul Bandey in the AB Groupe dub.

Biography[]

Dragon Ball[]

Dr. Brief makes his first appearance in the Red Ribbon Army Saga, where he meets Goku when he goes to Capsule Corporation to repair the Dragon Radar, that was broken during the battle in Jingle Village.

In the anime he also makes an appearance in the King Piccolo Saga, where he and his wife wants to escape from King Piccolo's attack, but they take it too calmly. Luckily for them, the demon is defeated by Goku before the attack.

Dragon Ball Z[]

Dr. Brief makes his first key role in the Namek Saga, where he finds the spaceship where Goku went to the Earth as a baby and builds a big spaceship to take him to planet Namek. In the anime he also helps Goku with the ship's repairs before it veers off course and ends up incinerated into a star. Then he builds two other spaceships to take other members of the Dragon Team to Namek, although by the time they were going to leave there was no longer any need. Then both in the anime and manga lets the Namekians to stay in Capsule Corporation before they find another planet to live and lets them to summon Porunga there.

In the Cell Saga he creates a Gravity Room to help Vegeta with their training. Sometime later he has his first granchild, Trunks, and he creates toys for him. Before the Cell Games he restores Android 16 with Bulma, who was injured during the fight against Cell, and removes the explosive from his body, that was highly dangerous.

In the Majin Buu Saga he refuses to leave the West City with the other Z-Fighters, then he is killed by Super Buu but then is revived by Porunga.

Dragon Ball Super[]

In the "Future" Trunks Saga he builds a new time machinne with Bulma for Future Trunks.

Trivia[]

Dr. Brief and his wife, Bikini, didn't make any physical appearance in Dragon Ball GT, due to the years where the events of the series takes place is possible that they died from natural causes before these events.
