Dr. Mario is a doctor-costumed version of Mario that was the star of his eponymous game for the NES, Game Boy, and SNES, in which he must use his Megavitamins to defeat Viruses. He also stars in Dr. Mario 64 for the Nintendo 64, Dr. Mario and Puzzle League for the Game Boy Advance, Dr. Mario Online Rx, which is a game for Wii's WiiWare and Dr. Mario Express, which is a game for the DSi's DSiWare. He was introduced to the Super Smash Bros. series in Super Smash Bros. Melee, where he is an unlockable character. However, he is not included in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, and then included once again as an unlockable character in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U, where he uses his Melee move set once again, plus a Final Smash: Dr. Finale. It is the same as Mario Finale, but instead of Fireballs, Dr. Mario launches two giant-sized Megavitamins. Dr. Mario once again returns in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as an unlockable character once again.
- In his early appearances, Dr. Mario wore a plain white shirt, but in his later appearances since Dr. Mario 64, Dr. Mario wears a red necktie.
- In Super Mario Odyssey, there is a Dr. Mario costume for Mario to wear.
- In the Dr. Mario games, Dr. Mario's pants are white, but in Super Smash Bros. Melee, Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS/Wii U and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, his pants are black.
