Thank you for releasing me.
~ The Dragons' catchphrase after Spyro freed them from their crystal statue transformed by Gnasty Gnorc.

The Dragons are supporting protagonists from the Spyro franchise.

They are a species of peaceful magical creature living in the Dragon Realms who once lived in the Forgotten Worlds since they was banished by the Sorceress.

The nature of the dragons still heroic, especially due to Spyro be one of their own.

In the original game the population is 75 dragons.

Personnalities[]

Dragons are a peaceful race of creatures, with remarkable sympathy, although they can easily become distressed when a villain like Gnasty Gnorc or the Sorceress causes them serious trouble that Spyro can correct their tragic mistakes to his people.

Just like Spyro, the dragons can be jerks, such as Lindar insulting Gnasty Gnorc for saying he is a simple creature since he was banished to Gnorc Gnexus to prove to him that he is ugly or even some dragons have fun with sheep such as Lateef kicking a sheep or even Tomas and Argus playing basketball with a sheep, which triggers a humorous medium.

Some dragons can have comic relief tendencies, such as Bubba say to Spyro to crush enemies, while Spyro tells Bubba to charge and spit fire at enemies such as Gnorcs, which Bubba gives Spyro a positive chip sign for respecting him.

The dragons are highly respected towards Spyro out of care and caution, as they support his motivations and their advice that they give before facing Gnasty Gnorc, although Spyro is shown to be very loyal and respectful to his people without causing arguments.

Appearances[]

The Dragons have an appearance that can echo from western folkore, notably due to their reptilian appearance, that they have horns, wings and they can breathe fire. In the original game all the dragons are bipedal to give them an anthropomorphic look (except a few exceptions like Spyro, Gavin, Thor, Gunnar, Halvor and Sadiki are quadrupedal).

Some dragons may have a different culture, dragons living in the Artisan world focus on artistic creation, Peace Keepers act as a military, Magic Crafters have a focus on sorcery, Beast Makers create new species of animals and Dream Weavers regulate the dreams of dragons.

Biography[]

Past[]

Long ago, for a thousand years, dragons lived and ruled over a realm divided into four parts called the Forgotten Worlds. The magic of the dragons was rooted in the land, allowing it to thrive. One day when a tyrannical witch known as the Sorceress unfairly banished the dragons starting with Astor following an argument, causing all magic to disappear across the Forgotten Worlds. Although the nature of the Dragons is nothing evil and being a peaceful race, since they no longer chose to bother the Sorceress, they remained on the other side of the world where they felt at home, forgetting the Forgotten Worlds by the Sorceress.

Later, the dragons encounter Gnasty Gnorc for the first time and come into conflict with them and banish Gnasty Gnorc from the Dragon World to the Dragon Junk Yard for disorder.

Spyro the Dragon[]

When the dragons were interviewed by the Dragon News Network when Astor said that it had been peaceful in the Dragon Realms for ages with the 12,000 gems (forgetting to say that the Dragon Realms has 14,000 gems). When Lindar also participated in his interview, he said that Gnasty Gnorc was a simple creature, that he was being held in check by the Gnorc Gnexus to prove to him that he was no longer a danger to the Dragon Realms and that he was ugly, which triggered Gnasty Gnorc to become extremely vengeful against the dragons (except Spyro) by turning them into crystal statues, forcing Spyro to save his people and retrieve the gems from the Dragon Realms.

After Spyro manages to save the Dragon Realms from Gnasty Gnorc, he is interviewed by the Dragon News Network to compliment him on defeating Gnasty Gnorc, saving the dragons, and recovering all of the Dragon Realms gems, despite Spyro being described as a respectable opponent for his treacherous nature, leading to them being transformed into crystal statues again, forcing Spyro to free them again.

Spyro: Year of the Dragon[]

While Spyro accompanied by Hunter and some dragons (Astor, Lindar, Gavin, Bubba and Argus in the Regnited version) are sleeping peacefully after the celebration of the Year of the Dragon which took place every 12 years, they were woken up by Hunter when Bianca crushed his tail when she is stealing the eggs in order to bring them back to the Forgotten Worlds under the orders of the Sorceress, which leads Spyro and Hunter to bring the Eggs back to the Dragon Realms.

After defeating the Sorceress again, Spyro managed to bring the baby dragons back to the Dragon Realms, which the dragon people complimented Spyro (Astor, Lindar Gavin, Bubba, and Argus in the Regnited Trilogy version) for saving and bringing the baby dragons back from the Forgotten Worlds ruled by the Sorceress.

Other medias[]

The Legend of Spyro[]

The dragons' counterparts also have an appearance in The Legend of Spyro trilogy and much like Spyro and Cynder, some adult dragons are quadrupedal.

Skylanders[]

Another incarnation of the dragons also appear in the Skylanders franchise, with Camo, Cynder, Bash, Zap, Spyro, and Drobot being dragons that are six of thirty-two playable characters in the first Skylanders game.

Trivia[]

  • Due to Spyro being the titular main protagonist of the franchise of the same name, the Dragons display their protagonistic qualities for the first time in video games, though they respect him leniently.
  • Although the dragons seen throughout the first game are male, female dragons are never mentioned until Spyro: Year of the Dragon and Spyro: A Hero's Tail.
  • In the first game, the dragon population is only 74 (75 with Spyro), although the dragon eggs seen since Spyro: Year of the Dragon only number 150.
  • Revilo is also the last dragon to be released by Spyro, as when Spyro releases Dragons in the Gnorc Gnexus, he recognizes six dragons such as Delbin, Lateef, Tomas, Cosmos, Cleetus and Magnus since he is releasing in the five previous worlds.
  • Although all dragons (except Spyro) have never set foot in Avalar, it is understood that Ripto has a strong hatred towards the dragons.
  • Bianca is one of the few characters to know the innocence and tragic nature of the Dragons (except Spyro) to Hunter, since she knew that the Sorceress did not understand that Dragons were the source of magic in the Forgotten Worlds following their unlawful banishment against the Dragons, although the Dragons from the Spyro franchise are not evil.
    • However, Spyro is the only dragon to set foot in the Forgotten Realms, but since he defeated the Sorceress to not only save the baby dragons to bring them back to the Dragon Realms under her people's orders, but also take their revenge against the Sorceress' unlawful banishment of the dragons from the Forgotten Realms.
  • In Spyro: A Hero's Tail, four of the dragons that Spyro freed can be confused for Elder Dragons, although four of them are named Tomas, Astor, Titan, and Magnus.
  • Red is the only dragon to have villainous qualities until his redemption in the game Spyro: Shadow Legacy, although the Sorcerer (the main antagonist of the game) is part of the Purple Dragons race (although he is often confused for a dragon).
  • Cynder never appeared in the classic version of Spyro, as both incarnations of Cynder only appeared in The Legend of Spyro trilogy and the Skylanders franchise (notably Skylanders Academy), this makes the original counterpart of Spyro to have no love interest.
