Dudão (also known as Bolachão by his friends and his fans) is the titular protagonist of the long running Christian comic series of the same name. He is described as a slightly clumsy boy, but has good manners and is always blessed by God.
In Brazil, he is voiced by Eduardo Samuel, but he is more commonly referred of fan dubbings by Luan G.B 2003.
Appearance[]
Dudão is a short-haired, slightly overweight boy with strange eyes, always wearing flip-flops and a blue t-shirt that doesn't always fully cover his belly (which has a protruding navel) and yellow shorts. When he goes to church, he wears shoes instead of slippers, and takes his bible.
Personality[]
Dudão is a responsible, mature and helpful boy who loves to help others, even when he is mistreated by them. He almost never makes mistakes and always lectures his friends, despite being a hypocrite in many situations and committing sins that he told everyone to avoid.
He loves to eat a lot, but has never hesitated to share it with others.
Nicknames[]
Most of the nicknames given to him are related to his obesity. In the early stories, they were nicknames related to the fact that he was an evangelical.
Trivia[]
- In the first editions, he was just a "good boy", a chubby-bumbling character (afraid of things), just like in the description of him in Issue #1. Later, at Editora Vida, he started making less messes and ended up becoming a moral preacher, showing up to give sermons and never making mistakes. The creator was told that he was very right, which made him go back to acting like a normal child and making mistakes, from the edition Dudão N° 11.
- He rarely learns morality from children, but has learned from adults.
- He is the only child in all the stories who is satisfied with his body.
- In the comic strips, Dudão seems to have as much mischief as the other children.
- He has never been seen crying, as well as Tato, but they have both been seen moaning in pain
- Its name is inspired by Eduardo Samuel, the creator of the little stories. This inspiration is similar to that of characters like Midinho (Romildo), inspired by the name of missionary Romildo Ribeiro Soares.
- He plays all sports badly.
- In the prototype his shirt was striped and he looked more chubby.
- Dudão is the character that has the most nicknames in the entire comic.
- According to its own creator, he is neither homophobic nor racist, that's because at the time the magazine was launched, people still didn't discuss much about prejudice, homophobia and racism because there was no political correctness.
- He commits various sins, called hypocrisies by fans.
- His outfit had few changes, the biggest of which were the stripes from the n°0. issue.
- In the Luan G.B. 2003 dubbing, Dudão had 3 voices (4 if we count the unused voice).
- Although he's out of tune on the guitar, it's revealed on the cover of Dudão's album that he's very good at playing guitar.
- In the 90s, he was the most loved character before Paçoca.
Relationships[]
Binho: Of the converts, Binho, being a boy, is the one who plays with him the most. Dudão treats him like a younger brother (since he was based on the author's son), always consoling him and preventing him from crying, in addition to defending him from everyone. Binho is always forgiven and tolerated by Dudão.
Rebeca: Rebeca almost never fights with Dudão, who treats her like a daughter, always correcting her. Once, Rebeca called Binho a donkey, and Binho called her Pichaim, but only she was corrected by Dudão.
Paçoca: Paçoca is the only character who can make Dudão angry. Dudão is happy when Paçoca gets sick.
Zuca: Zuca is always helped by Dudão, who is the only one who feels sorry for her poverty. He always prevents Zuca from being attacked or hurt.
Pita: Pita is the only unconverted one admired by Dudão, who thinks he is intelligent.
Tato: Tato scares Dudão, who always asks God to protect him against the boy. Dudão protects his friends from being attacked by Tato.
Mr Jesão: Dudão seems to have a lot of affection and affection for his father, who is his indoctrinator guide (taking the son to Christian marches); so much so that he is the only one who gives a moral lesson in Dudão.
Hairy: Dudão loves the cat, however, he seems to have more pity than love, as he criticizes mistreating God's creatures and not mistreating his pet, when Hairy is attacked. At the time, it was common for animals to be treated as breeding and not as pets.
Fandom[]
Dudão isn't much loved by fans, who generally prefer the uncorveted characters, and find the protagonist a bit boring. Before he went viral, he was the favorite character of the children of the Church.
