Behind the Scenes
He is portrayed by Channing Tatum, who is known for usually playing action heroes. However, Tatum strongly disliked being cast in a G.I. Joe film because he felt that G.I. Joe serves as propaganda to glorify war. Regardless, he was required by law to be in the two movies since he signed a contract with Paramount. The contract did not ever tell him he would have to star in a GI Joe film. Channing Tatum praised Duke's death for the sequel.
Tatum later starred as the lead protagonist John Cale in the 2013 action film White House Down, which denounced the U.S. pursuing military action and war in the Middle East, which G.I. Joe praised.
