Duke Caboom is a major character in Pixar's 21st full-length animated feature film Toy Story 4.
He is an amiable Canadian daredevil toy with a white outfit, a horseshoe mustache, and a toy motorcycle. He suffers from low self-esteem due to believing that he let down his previous owner Rejean, as he was unable to do the stunts that his commercial ads had promised. He has eventually managed to handle this mindset of his in a better manner.
He is voiced by Keanu Reeves, who also played Neo in The Matrix franchise, John Wick in the film series of the same name, "Ted" Theodore Logan in the Bill & Ted films, Johnny Utah in the 1991 film Point Break, Jonathan Harker in Bram Stoker's Dracula, Officer Jack Traven in Speed, Johnny Silverhand in Cyberpunk 2077, John Constantine in the 2005 film Constantine, Johnny Mnemonic in the film of the same name, Sage in The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run, Evan Webber in Knock Knock, and Batman in DC League of Super-Pets.
History[]
Duke encounters Woody and Bo Peep when he was asked for help to rescue Forky. He gets Woody, Buzz, Bo, Giggle McDimples, Ducky and Bunny to the antique store to rescue Forky, but when they run into Gabby Gabby and the Bensons, they must exit the store and Duke crashes. Woody begs him and everyone to return to the store, but they all leave him behind because of all the risks that come with it.
After Woody gives his voice box to Gabby Gabby, Duke returns with the gang and helps Woody and Bo have Gabby be owned by another human child after she was rejected by Harmony, to which it succeeded via a once lost girl. After that, Duke then helps Woody return to Bonnie. Woody returns to his gang but he chooses to stay with Bo instead of returning to his Bonnie. After Woody said goodbye his friends, Buzz and Forky, Duke and everyone begin their quest in helping other ownerless toys find their homes and owners.
Trivia[]
- Duke is a parody of the 1975 Evel Knievel Rally Stunt Cycle by the Ideal Toy Company.
- In a mid-credits scene, after hearing that Ducky and Bunny really have laser eyes, Duke exclaims "Woah.", which refers to Neo, who was also played by Keanu Reeves.
- After the credits, Duke takes Luxo, Jr.’s place during the Pixar logo, and the winter Combat Carl appears and gets a high five from Duke.
- Toy Story 4 and John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum, both of which Keanu Reeves starred in, came out in 2019.
- Duke's overall characterization throughout his appearance is pretty similar to how Buzz Lightyear behaved in the first Toy Story movie, as both toys initially thought firmly that they are only supposed to be what their respective brands had advertised them as (Duke is a daredevil; Buzz is a space ranger).
- Duke being Canadian-themed apparently reflects his voice actor Keanu Reeves, who is an actual Canadian himself.
