Deadly anomalies, dangerous mutants, anarchists and bandits... None of them will stop Duty on its triumphant march towards saving the planet!
~ Duty propaganda

Duty is one of the two tritagonists, alongside Freedom of the Ukrainian FPS Survival Horror franchise S.T.A.L.K.E.R..

Duty is a paramilitary clan of stalkers operating in the Zone and formed by former military soldiers. They are the ideological rivals of Freedom.

History[]

In 2006, the Military, almost immediately after the Second Emission arranges a huge operation to destroy everything in the Zone, that was later named the "First Raid", However, due to the lack of information about anomalies or mutants, almost all the troops died. One of the squad leaders, Captain Tachenko, cuts all contacts with the HQ and announce the creation of a militarized fraction, "Duty"-whose main goal is to protect the big land from the Zone. The Captain himself took the rank, General of Duty.

At some point between these years, General Tachenko gone missing and was replaced by General Krylov.

In 2011, due to the Hyper-Emission or just The Emission, a path to the lost city of Limansk opens. Duty sends a squad to the city after the destruction of the Renegades, but suffers huge losses, which backfires the mission. The Emission not only opened a path to the lost city, but also opened plenty of new locations, which sparkled a territorial war, later known as the Fraction War. The Duty mainly fought against their ideological enemies, Freedom. The war ended in inconclusive results: Both of the fractions suffered huge losses, and both of the fractions decided to change their headquarters; Freedom to the Military Warehouses and Duty to the Rostok Factory, where they became the guardians of Bar "100 Rads"-the most popular stalkers' resting place.

In 2012, the war against Freedom and Bandits kept going, but not as intensive as before. Meanwhile, a squad of rouge Duty members, under the command of Skull, decided to kill the Freedom leader, Lukash, themselves. Mechenyj can participate, by either helping them to kill Lukash or reporting them to either of the leaders,

Unlike the former leader, Krylov, the new leader, Voronin is much more willing to negotiate. Duty and Freedom organize a "neutral" relationship at the Yanov Station, fighting for influence over Yanov. A Duty's warrant officer, Morgan, who was in charge of Duty's storage, was secretly selling stuff to Mercenaries and Bandits. The result of Morgan's scheme is fully relying on player's actions
