Palutena, you'd be wise to put a muzzle on your chicken.
~ Dyntos to Paluntena

Dyntos, also known as the God of Forge, is the overarching protagonist of the Kid Icarus series.

Despite his elderly appearance, he is an extraordinary craftsman, particularly in the field of replicating monstrous beings, formidable adversaries, and weaponry. Surprisingly, he is also the mastermind behind the creation of the Three Sacred Treasures, which hold immense significance in Pit's arsenal. This skilled being, who is actually an esteemed deity, has taken up residence in a mysterious dimension that serves as his workshop, allowing him to fashion and manipulate an array of objects. His abilities extend beyond forging powerful armaments and breathing life into creatures; he is capable of recreating entire landscapes and settings with astonishing precision.

Although he chooses to remain impartial in the ongoing conflicts between deities and humans, he extends his aid to Pit by ingeniously crafting a brand-new weapon known as the Great Sacred Treasure, a necessary replacement following the destruction of the original Three Sacred Treasures by the malevolent Hades.

He is voiced by Koji Yada in the Japanese version and Alan Oppenheimer in the English version.

Description[]

Appearance[]

The man appears to be elderly, but his average height and normal appearance hide the immense power and extraordinary abilities that lie within him. His long white beard and mustache accentuate his wise and experienced demeanor, while his mostly bald head showcases two tufts of hair on the sides, giving him a unique and distinctive look. His choice of attire consists of dull grey-colored clothing, complemented by a blue plate adorning his shoulder and a sizable hexagon-shaped metal brace adorning his left arm. The artwork depicting him portrays him wielding a substantial metal hammer, symbolizing his skillful craftsmanship and the tool he utilizes to bring his imaginative creations to life.

Personality[]

He carries himself in a manner reminiscent of a cantankerous elderly gentleman, who relishes being addressed with titles of respect like "Sir" or "Lord Dyntos," and greatly despises any form of disrespect shown towards him by others. Notably, he possesses an abundance of wisdom and brilliance, and his vast knowledge spans across numerous subjects. His craftsmanship skills are truly exceptional, as he effortlessly creates weapons, machinery, and even living beings or replicas.

A deep sense of pride is evident in his creations, and it appears that his craft is one of the few aspects that truly ignite his enthusiasm. Despite the chaotic and catastrophic events unfolding in the world around him, he maintains an air of indifference, exhibiting little interest or concern. However, this apparent lack of worry may be comprehensible, given that his extraordinary powers would enable him to reconstruct the world if the conflict with Hades were to escalate beyond control. Nevertheless, there is a certain degree of genuine care for the world within him, and he seems to have possessed a belief in Pit's capabilities right from the outset.

History[]

After the Three Sacred Treasures were brutally destroyed by the malevolent Hades, Pit found himself in a dire predicament and was compelled to seek the assistance of the mighty Dyntos. In a desperate quest to restore balance and vanquish the encroaching darkness, Pit embarked on a perilous journey that would pit him against a multitude of formidable adversaries. These foes hailed from the treacherous depths of the Underworld, the untamed Forces of Nature, and even the enigmatic Aurum. Little did Pit know, these adversaries were cunningly crafted by the masterful hands of Dyntos himself, designed to surpass the very essence of their original counterparts.

Undeterred by the first trial, Pit moves on to the second, where he is confronted by not one, but two formidable opponents. Dyntos, orchestrating the trial, summons Magnus, a valiant warrior, and Gaol, a skilled warrior with a tragic past, to join forces against Pit. As if this wasn't enough, Dyntos seeks to unhinge Pit by introducing Pseudo-Palutena, a twisted and distorted version of the Goddess of Light, who appears as a zombie-like being. Pit must now face not only his physical adversaries, but also the psychological turmoil caused by this eerie doppelganger. As Pit steps into the grand chamber, Dyntos, the master of ceremonies, instructs the angelic hero to undertake the Three Trials, a series of arduous challenges that will test his skill and courage. In the first trial, Pit finds himself pitted against formidable recreations of mythical creatures, including the fiery Phoenix, the monstrous Kraken, and the colossal Cragalanche. Finally, Pit reaches the climax of his trials, facing the ultimate challenge. Dyntos summons forth the awe-inspiring Great Sacred Treasure itself, a majestic and powerful weapon. Pit must summon every ounce of strength and determination to overcome this formidable foe, employing his skills gained from previous trials to emerge victorious. In a stunning display of skill and bravery, Pit emerges triumphant, successfully defeating the Great Sacred Treasure. As a reward for his unwavering perseverance, Dyntos bestows upon Pit the use of this mighty and potent weapon. With this newfound power at his disposal, Pit is now equipped to confront his ultimate nemesis, Hades, and bring about his long-awaited downfall.

Power and Abilities[]

According to Palutena, Dyntos possesses unimaginable power and is known for his immense wisdom. In fact, he is believed to be the most powerful among all the gods. As the god of the forge, he has the incredible ability to conceive and create any weapon he can imagine. If he desired, he could assemble the most formidable army in the world. However, Dyntos finds greater pleasure in using his talents to craft and construct rather than engage in warfare. His abilities extend far beyond weaponry and machinery; he can even bring living beings into existence, complete with souls and physical bodies. Furthermore, he has the extraordinary capacity to replicate anyone or anything, even entire landscapes. It seems that Dyntos possesses a certain level of omniscience, as he possesses vast knowledge about various subjects, including all the occurrences in the outside world and the thoughts of others. By delving into the minds of individuals, he can manifest precise copies of their memories in reality. Similar to the other gods, he possesses the power of telepathy, allowing him to communicate with others like Pit and Palutena. In addition, within his workshop, he exhibits complete control over the environment, effortlessly altering its interior and manipulating the laws of physics.

Trivia[]

  • Dyntos, known as the "god of the forge," is believed to draw inspiration from Hephaestus, the Greek deity associated with blacksmithing, craftsmanship, and the forge. The significance of this title suggests a connection between the two characters.
  • In Chapter 24, Palutena states that Dyntos is responsible for creating all sacred armaments. However, it is worth noting that the Palutena Bow and Silver Bow are explicitly mentioned to have been crafted by Palutena herself. Additionally, the Dark Pit Staff is said to have been created through the use of the Mirror of Truth. These details imply that Dyntos's role in crafting all armaments may not be absolute.
  • The name "Dyntos" originates from the Greek word "dynatόs," which translates to "mighty." This choice of name further emphasizes his powerful nature and reinforces his divine status.
  • Dyntos is referenced in the trophy description of Pseudo-Palutena in the Super Smash Bros. game for Nintendo 3DS. This acknowledgment further solidifies his presence and importance within the Kid Icarus universe. It is possible that Dyntos may have been influenced by Zeus, a prominent figure in the original Kid Icarus game.
  • In the game, Zeus is depicted as a wise and elderly god who assists the protagonist, Pit, by providing him with formidable weapons upon successful completion of trials. This similarity suggests that Dyntos could be a reinterpretation or a new iteration of Zeus within the Kid Icarus universe.
