Ebenezer Von Clutch, also known simply as Von Clutch, is the overarching protagonist in the video game Crash Tag Team Racing. He is an eccentric German inventor and owner of the racing theme park "Von Clutch's Motorworld".
He is voiced by Danny Mann in Crash Tag Team Racing and by John DiMaggio in Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled.

Ebenezer is a cyborg and inventor from Germany. He is implied to have witnessed the Hindenburg crash and fought in World War II. Eventually, he opened his own MotorWorld, a racing theme park with highly dangerous attractions and working environment. He was also a fan of both Crash Bandicoot and Neo Cortex, collecting video games about them.
Crash Tag Team Racing[]
The plot of Crash Tag Team Racing revolves around Ebenezer Von Clutch trying to retrieve his stolen Black Heart Power Gem, which is required for his cybernetics to remain operational. Von Clutch becomes so desperate to locate the gemstone that he offers to give up ownership of his theme park to anyone who finds it. He was also lucky enough to recruit Crash Bandicoot and company in his search after an accident at the park's front gates.
After much searching, Von Clutch is shocked to discover that Motorworld's park mascot Willie Wumpa Cheeks was responsible for the gems theft because of his treatment of the park's employees. The heroes managed to stop Willie from escaping Motorworld but were unable to prevent Von Clutch's cybernetics from shutting down, causing the cyborg to go into a coma-like state. Luckily, Crash discovers where Willie had hidden the Black Heart Power Gem and uses it to revive Von Clutch, who rewards him and his allies with unlimited access to his theme park.
Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled[]
Von Clutch is a unlockable character who first appeared during the Neon Circus Grand Prix event. He can be purchased in the Pit Stop using Wumpa Coins. He is a Balanced class driver.
Personality[]
Von Clutch is a crazed genius who likes speed and violence so much that he incorporated them into his theme park. He is also a big fan of Crash Bandicoot and has all of his games. Although Von Clutch is a rather jolly fellow and usually means well, he tends to ignore the well-being of his employees by having them work in the park's hazardous conditions without pay. Because of this, he is unpopular among most of those working for him. Von Clutch is also an experienced racer and friends with Pasadena O'Possum.
Trivia[]
- Ebenezer von Clutch is notable for being the only unambiguously heroic (if somewhat neglectful) human in the Crash Bandicoot series. The only other possible example is Aku Aku, a human spirit in a mask.
- Ebenzer's cybernetic appearance is never explained in the game Crash Tag Team Racing but it's likely due to the amount of racing accidents he's had in his racing career.
- Due to him witnessing the Hindenburg crash and fighting in World War II, Ebenezer is considered the oldest human character in the franchise.
