Ecthelion, or Ecthelion of the Fountain, is a character of The Silmarillion. He was a mighty Elf-lord of Gondolin in the First Age of Middle-earth, and one of its greatest heroes.

Biography[]

Ecthelion is shown to be a very brave warrior. He took part in a huge number of battles, in one of which he killed the orc commander Orcobal and many other orcs. However, he was never able to save Gondolin from the fall. He also fought with Gothmog, the leader of the Balrogs, and threw him into a fountain, where he drowned. However, Ecthelion himself also fell into the fountain and also died.

Personality.[]

Ecthelion is very brave. He is ready to challenge any enemy, both the orcs and the Balrog Gothmog. He is also very selfless, as he is ready to protect his state and his loved ones from any threat. His heroic death is proof of this. He saved Tuor from Gothmog at the cost of his life.
