Biography[]
Background[]
Eddie was born in 1965 in Hawkins, Indiana. Though his parents and their statuses have yet to be revealed, his guardian is his paternal uncle, Wayne Munson, and they both stayed in the town's Forest Hills Trailer Park. During the 1970s, Eddie attended Hawkins Middle School alongside Chrissy Cunningham. Hawkins Middle School hosted a talent show, where both Eddie and Chrissy participated in. Eddie was impressed by Chrissy's cheerleading while Chrissy was impressed by Eddie's rock band, Corroded Coffin.
Eventually, the two drifted apart one they began attending Hawkins High School, though Eddie never held animosity towards her. While attending Hawkins High, Eddie led the school's Dungeons & Dragons club, the Hellfire Club, which was despised by the school's alumni due to the rising belief that D&D was connected to the worship of Satan. Eddie flourished with these rumors and taunted the popular kids, causing him to become rivals with Jason Carver, Chrissy's boyfriend and a member of the Hawkins High basketball team. Eddie was originally going to graduate in 1984, and again in 1985, but his rebellious streak and poor grades led him to being held back, leading him to despise the school's principal.
Bonding with Chrissy[]
In 1986, Dustin Henderson and Mike Wheeler sat down in the cafeteria, where Eddie and his D&D group, then Hellfire Club, were at Eddie saw great potential in the two boys and invited them to be members of his club, which they accepted. Throughout interaction, he is very standoffish and show a strong disliking for the jocks of Hawkins High and believes he is labeled under the "freaks" area of cliques and points out that even "geeks" are worse than him, and blames the world for his lack of respect for it, saying everyone is plagued by conformity.
On March 21, while Eddie sat in the cafeteria table reading a magazine that demonized D&D out loud, he was approached by Dustin and Mike on moving the end of his campaign since Lucas would be unable to attend due to his basketball game. However Eddie told the boys they were the future of Hellfire since all other members would be leaving next year, which included himself who was trying to finally graduate. Eddie then told the boys to get a replacement.
Later that day, Eddie met with Chrissy Cunningham to make a drug deal, so she could numb out some visions she was having. While there the two had a nice chat and shared some laughs, which made Eddie more comfortable in her pressence. Chrissy then asked Eddie if he ever felt like losing his mind, to which he replied he felt that way often. Eddie then brought up his past, and reminded Chrissy of a previous meeting between them on a talent show where he played in the band Corroded Coffin, he then invited her to one of their shows, claiming they still play. The drug deal was then postponed since Chrissy wanted something stronger
That night during the campaign, Dustin and Mike brought Lucas' sister, Erica Sinclair, to play in Lucas' place. Though Eddie initially laughed at the idea, he accepted it once Erica talked him down and showed her knowledge in the game. During the campaign Eddie pit the other up against a monster called Vecna. After Dustin and Erica managed to beat the campagin, an overjoyed Eddie celebrated with his club
After the end of the campaign, Eddie took Chrissy to his trailer and explained his living situation. Eddie then left to find the "Special K", which was ketamine. However upon finding it, he encountered Chrissy under a kind of trance. Eddie tried to wake her up and became alarmed at her lack of response. After Chrissy began levitating, he fell back in fear and screamed horrified as Chrissy's bones snapped and her eyes were gouged out. After witnessing her death, the panicking Eddie ran out and left in his car, unaware he was being watched by Max Mayfield.
Life on the run[]
Eddie Munson went on the run since the cops thought he killed Chrissy.
Showdown with the Demobats[]
| “ | I didn't run away this time, right? | „ |
| ~ A dying Eddie to Dustin. |
Teaming up with the Party, Eddie Munson ventured to the Upside Down and altruistically lured the Demobats to him, resulting in his death. He died in Dustin's arms.
Legacy[]
Posthumously, Eddie Munson continued to inspire Dustin Henderson to find Vecna and end the Upside Down once and for all as well as to continue the Hellfire Club in his wake. Despite this, Steve mentioned him quite uncharitably, thinking he had been unwise in his final moments. Dustin furiously disagreed, resulting in them physically fighting and proceeding to split up.
After his body was found, Eddie buried.
Personality[]
| “ | Kid worships you, dude. Like, you have no idea. It's kind of annoying to be honest. And I don't even know why I care what that little shrimp thinks. But uh... I guess I got a little jealous, Steve. I guess I couldn't accept the fact that Steeeeve Harrington was actually... a good dude. Rich parents, popular, chicks love him, not a douche? No way man. No way. That like, flies in the face of all the laws of the universe, and my own personal Munson doctrine. | „ |
| ~ Eddie to Steve. |
At first glance, Eddie initially came off as intense, pushy, and scary. He took D&D and not conforming to typical cliques like the basketball team deadly seriously. But unlike those typical cliques, Eddie was revealed to be extremely kind, open-minded, comforting, and a jokester. Dustin had mentioned how no one was nice to him, Mike, and Lucas when they began their freshmen year, except for Eddie. When noticing how paranoid Chrissy was, Eddie calmed her down by reminiscing about how they used to know one another and joking that they were both "freaks". Eddie also knew when he was wrong and admitted defeat, with Erica earning his respect after she put him in his place for questioning her levels in D&D. He also later apologized to Steve for writing him off as a "douchebag". Eddie was revealed to have a special soft spot for Dustin, who was adamant that Eddie was innocent. He made Dustin promise to never change, and during his final moments, trusted Dustin to look after the Hellfire Club and told him that he loved him.
