Eddie Yeats was a fictional character and supporting protagonist of the ITV British soap opera Coronation Street.
He was a kind-hearted ex convict before moving to the street and gradually being accepted by the residents who saw his good-natured personality despite his not always trusting him.
Biography[]
Eddie was first seen in the street when he went out on a date with Bet Lynch but their romance was short-lived as cops came and took him back to prison, Eddie later returned which the residents were less than enthusiastic about. Eddie hid a suitcase that contained the spoils of his friend Monkey Gibbons' burglary and surprised his neighbours by turning himself in.
A year later, Eddie resurfaced and slowly gained the respect of the neighbours as he lodged with Stan and Hilda Ogden who he became good friends with and compassionately talked Bet down from suicide after the death of her son. Eddie was incredibly loyal to the Ogdens which was best demonstrated when he bought Stan's window round and kept him on as an employee after Stan became unable to climb the ladder.
In 1982 Eddie met a girl named Marion over the radio but when they met in person he worried she would discover his deceit as he had lied about being successful. To keep the ruse up Eddie exploited the fact that Hilda worked as housekeeper for factory boss Mike Baldwin to sneak into Mike's flat and pass it off as his own. After Mike found out the truth he surprisingly sympathized with Eddie and let him use the place one more time to explain things. The truth actually made Marion keener on Eddie as she had been feeling inferior because of his supposed wealth and they later married. Ultimately Eddie and a pregnant Marion departed the area to look after her mother who was seriously ill.
Sometime later, Eddie only returned one more time to the street when Hilda was burgled to comfort her.
