Hero Overview

I made it all up, Double D. Everything about my brother was a lie. I just made things up, so people would like me, think I was cool. But boy was I wrong. The scam, my brother, this... when am I gonna learn, Double D?
~ Eddy apologizes to everyone, revealing his true nature for the reason why he lied about his brother and why he behaved like a jerk throughout the series.
WE DID IT, DOUBLE D! EVERYONE LOVES US! WE'RE FINALLY IN, BABY!
~ Eddy being happy with his friends and his last words of the series

Eddy is one of the three titular main protagonists of the series Ed, Edd n Eddy.

He is Ed and Edd's best friend and the self-appointed, ambitious leader of the Eds who tries to either obtain money through his numerous scams, or to achieve popularity with the neighborhood kids.

He is voiced by retired actor and voice actor Tony Sampson in the original series, and by James Arnold Taylor in Cartoon Network Universe: FusionFall.

Biography[]

Early life[]

Eddy was born in Peach Creek to an unnamed couple, who previously had another son, who later moved out. Eddy did not have a good relationship with his brother due to the latter's mean spirted attitude towards him. Despite this, Eddy did inherit his brother's love for scams. In order get people to like him, Eddy made out that his brother was an amazing person. In his early childhood, Eddy befriended another boy named Ed. Sometime after this, the two attempted to scam a boy named Edd, who had recently moved to Peach Creek with his parents. After this, Edd (nicknamed Double D) befriended Eddy and Ed.

Role in the series[]

Eddy along with Ed and Edd, would create scams in order to get money from the other kids in their cul-de-sac in order to buy their favorite confectionery jawbreakers. However most of the time, the scams would fail.

Eddy and his friends also have to deal with the unwanted attention of a trio of sisters called The Kankers, who wanted the Eds to be their boyfriends.

The first four seasons of the series showed Eddy and his friends doing their scams during the summer holidays. Later seasons and specials take place in the fall and winter and depict Eddy, his friends and the other kids returning to their school Peach Creek Junior High.

Appearance[]

Eddy wears a yellow polo shirt with a purple collar/sleeve hems and a vertical red stripe on the right side. He also wears light blue pants like most of the other characters, as well as a wallet chain and plain red shoes. During the fall and winter, he wears a dark yellow jacket which resembles his usual shirt. Sometimes he wears his other jacket which is yellow and has a purple horizontal stripe. He has a "closet of dreams" full of extra clothes, and has worn many different party shirts and other outfits for specific scams. For example, in Rambling Ed, Eddy wore a turban for a scam that was for Jonny and Rolf when he pretended to summon ghosts and demons. Eddy's clothing bears a strong similarity in color Rolf's clothes. Eddy also has pink skin in a shade comparable to Kevin's, except having a lighter complexion around his eyes and on his eyelids. He has blue eyes and a yellow (later green) tongue.

Personality[]

Eddy's a short 12-year-old boy with a primary personality trait can be summed up as an amalgamation of excessive levels of greed, insecurity, and narcissism.

Eddy can sometimes be a good boy; however he almost always likes to make fun of others and is grumpy, sometimes very rude, unpredictable and above all selfish. He also doesn't like people to touch him. He loves to trick others with his scams just to make money and buy candy, but many times his scams backfire. He really likes to tick off Kevin and Sarah.

He wants to follow in the footsteps of his brother, who he once ruled the neighborhood. He always fails in all subjects and prefers candy more than his friends. In the movie and series finale, Eddy revealed that he was never truly a selfish jerk, he was a good person, he was only mean this whole time in the series, because of his brother's abuse and thought being like him would get people to like him. Eddy regrets his personality, created by the abuse of his older brother and his true self made him become friends with everyone who hated him and his friends.

Heroic Deeds[]

  • Before renouncing his days of a scammer, Eddy has done some (if not beneficial) good deeds in the series:
    • In The Ed-Touchables, after witnessing Sarah's doll and Edd's magnifying glass gone missing, Eddy realize there a sort of "serial toucher" stealing things, so Eddy warns everybody the entire Cul-de-Sac about a serial toucher on loose, and promising them that he and his friends will solve the mystery. Eddy's plan involves having Ed sitting on a brunch with an alarm hidden on his person and a sign saying "Don't Touch" hung on his body, which would be the perfect bait for the serial toucher. Jonny 2x4 approaches Ed and rubs Plank on Ed's head, which actives the alarm. Thus, making Eddy believe that Jonny is the serial toucher. Eddy and his friends manages to capture Jonny, and tied him to a chair in a basement. Eddy tortures Plank by dripping water from a water gun to make Jonny confess or Plank would swell up like a balloon. Jonny couldn't bear to see what going to happen to Plank, so he finally confesses that "he" is the serial toucher. However. Jonny turned out to be innocent, as Sarah found her doll under her bed and Edd revealed that he found his magnifying glass, clearing Jonny's name. Eddy felt no remorse for punishing Jonny for a crime he didn't committed stating that 'a little trauma builds character'.
    • In Over Your Ed, he and Edd tried making Ed popular and clean.
    • In Sir Ed-a-Lot, after polishing a nice car, Eddy and Edd went to check up on Ed, who's babysitting his sister via telling them to run, but are now forced into partaking Sarah's (and Jimmy's) games. Later, both of them were out of control as they create chaos but the Eds stopped them and afterwards they've painted a picture of themselves, along with Sarah and Jimmy, hanging out happily in the living room hoping this will fool Ed's Mom.
    • In An Ed Too Many, when Sarah developed a crush on Edd, leaving Jimmy all alone, Eddy and Ed managed to get those two back together.
    • In Ed-n-Seek, he and his friends managed to win a game of hide-and-seek as the seekers and later on the ones to hide.
    • In A Glass of Warm Ed, Eddy and Edd stopped Ed's sleepwalking rampant of stealing/eating food from the neighborhood and, in exchange for a small fee, returned the stolen goods back to them.
    • In Flea-Bitten Ed, after opening up their pet shop business, Eddy's spiel convinced Rolf to have him and his friends on taking the animals back to the garage and clean them. But when Ed came down an allergic reaction from the bunnies, Eddy and Edd managed to find a way to cure him.
    • In Who, What, Where, Ed, after Ed accidently breaks the eggs, they ask Rolf for an egg, but Rolf will only give them one through a trade, making the Eds go through a whole lot of trouble (and trading) just to get an egg from Rolf in their attempt to make an omelet.
    • In Tag Yer Ed, Eddy and Ed tried making Edd to get in shape so the kids won't pick on him for being so weak but to no avail. When the Kankers challenged the Eds to a wrestling match, the results weren't in their favor as well.
    • In Fool on the Ed, Eddy and his friends believed that someone known as the Prank Master is wreaking havoc in the Cul-De-Sac, forcing the trio to stand against him. But after figuring out it was the kids all along, Eddy angrily declares that he'll get them back by using one of his brother's pranks, the El Mongo Stink Bomb. Although the prank somewhat worked, the Eds got hit with most of the bomb's stench.
    • In Keeping up with the Eds, with the help of Rolf's goat, Victor, Eddy and his friends mowed down the enlarged grass (they created in the first place) only to save Sarah and Jimmy.
    • In Dear Ed, when the Eds saw Jimmy with Plank whom the latter had a huge fight with Jonny resulting a break-up, Eddy planned on having Jonny moved on by creating a store so the Eds can find him an ideal friend.
    • In Home Cooked Eds, Eddy and his friends got the Kanker Sisters off his lawn, only for them (Eddy and Edd) to have a battle with Kevin on over who has to take care of the girls on their 'holiday'.
    • In Rambling Eds, Eddy and Edd helped Ed to get away from Sarah for awhile after she has a list of chores for her brother to do and decided to mooched off from Rolf whereas Jonny agrees to help out by impersonating as Ed.
    • In Urban Ed, tired of the Suburbia lifestyle, the Eds created a city where the kids (besides Jonny) can explore.
    • In Wish You Were Ed, he and his friends tried to cure Rolf's homesick by creating a copy of his old hometown.
    • In If It Smells Like an Ed, Eddy suggested that he and his friends can investigate on who framed them for ruining the kids' Friendship Day after finding a paint-spattered bootprint only to fail in the end and learned that it was Jimmy who did it out of revenge for the wedgie Eddy gave him.
    • In Your Ed Here, Eddy's scam was a hit since everybody (except Kevin) liked it unlike the other ones before and afterwards where his scams got the kids hurt or swindled.
    • In Run For Your Ed, Eddy and Edd tried getting the Ship In-A-Bottle off of Ed's finger after another one of his sleepwalking stroll. Little did they know, it belongs to the Kanker Sisters and after they retrieved it, the Eds get a brief moment of relief knowing that the trio made it out unscathed before Eddy had his finger stuck in the faucet.
    • In a rare moment of Jingle Jingle Jangle, Eddy came across a Christmas tree and saw one of it's bulbs have gone out. He replaced the bulb, and the tree starts glowing beautifully and intensely that all of the other kids stopped by to admire the tree. Edd congratulated Eddy for his selfless act, which made him realized that it felt good about being generous and that getting good gifts isn't the true meaning of Christmas, and instead it's about kindness and generosity before reverted back to his old ways.
    • In A Fistful of Ed, When Kanker Sisters show up and started picking on Edd, after the 'fight' with Jimmy, Eddy angerly yells at the Kankers to leave Edd alone. This is a rare moment when Eddy bravely stands up to the Kanker Sisters.
    • In The Eds are Coming, after believing Rolf and his family were abducted by aliens, Eddy and his friends teamed up with the other kids to save them and their neighborhood.
    • In May I Have This Ed, he tried helping Edd on building self-confidence of talking to girls using his brother's book, "Dames, Dates & You" on their's (including Ed's) first school dance.
    • In Ed, Edd, Eddy's Big Picture Movie, Eddy and Edd saved Ed from a rampaging Rolf, who tries to either seriously hurt or kill the Eds for Eddy's scam that went horribly wrong and caused him, Kevin, Nazz, Jonny and Plank to suffer the most serious injuries of their life. He later apologizes to Edd for tricking him into thinking him and Ed perished in quicksand. And at the end of the movie he reveals that he is not truly a selfish person and apologizes to everybody redeeming himself.
    • In a crossover episode, Eddy opened up a fix-it service scam where Billy was the first customer to call, requesting for the Eds' help. Eddy was eager to do so, only to learn that Billy was broke. Upset about it, he told him to call the Kids Next Door since they're cheap.

Quotes[]

FINE!!! GO HOME!! I don’t blame ya, because everything was my fault! (sobbing) Yeah, you heard me! A foul-up wannabe loser!
~ Eddy admitting his faults to Double D.

Trivia[]

  • These are the grades on his report card as seen in the episode "Mission Ed-Possible", are the following:
    • Art: F
    • Science: F
    • English: F
    • History: F
    • Remedial Math: F
    • Wood Shop: F
    • Cooking: F
  • Eddy is a fan of Tom Jones and Barry White, evidenced by the records and posters in his room.
  • Eddy is a very tragic Cartoon Network character, as he suffered physical and psychological abuse and mistreatment from his older brother and was shunned and alienated from the rest of the cul-de-sac for seeming selfish and arrogant. In fact, his acceptance from the Cul-de-sac kids was one of the main highlights in the movie and the reason the finale was beloved by fans.
    • In another note, the writers originally planned on where Eddy's Brother doesn't exist and Eddy made it all up as one big lie. Fooling everybody, including his own friends whether as a means of escaping reality or for the sake of being popular. Doing so would make Ed and Edd ultimately abandon him as the most pathetic, if not lowest, to not face the other kids alone with zero redeeming qualities to add. Ending the series in the process.
  • Eddy is one of the nine main characters of the IDW comic Super Secret Crisis War.
  • In Issue 18 of the indie comic book series Zombie Tramp, Eddy and Ed make a cameo in the classroom scene, along with characters from other shows such as Mandy from The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy, Wendy Corduroy from Gravity Falls and Mr. Lancer from Danny Phantom.
