Edric Blight, also known as Ed for short, is a supporting protagonist in the Disney Channel animated series The Owl House. He is the only son of Alador and Odalia Blight, the younger twin brother of Emira Blight and the older brother of Amity Blight. He and Emira like to pull pranks on unsuspecting victims, including Amity.
While he started out as a bully to Amity, he and Em eventually came to care for their younger sister as she handled her relationship with Luz Noceda. He also helped his sisters and Hunter fight against Emperor Belos and his coven.
He is voiced by Ryan O'Flanagan.
Appearance[]
Edric is a 16-year-old boy with light skin, dark green hair, golden eyes, and a beauty mark under his left eye. Despite being younger than Emira, Edric is the taller of the twins. He often wears a hidden concealment stone to make himself look neat and refined in appearance. Without it, he looks much more casual and dishevelled, with three small moustache hairs above his lip and glasses.
In his common attire, he wears a dark gray undershirt, a maroon cardigan with a black belt, tight mauve pants, and black boots with maroon rims.
In his Hexside uniform, he wears a black-belted dark gray torso robe with a gold-buttoned black hood. He also has light blue pants to represent his enrollment in the Illusion track. His sleeves were originally that color as well but were altered when he went multi-track, with the top section being orange (representing Beast-Keeping) and the bottom section being yellow (representing Potions). His boots are mostly the same as his common attire, though now gray-rimmed.
Without concealment, his hair is held back by a black headband (looking similar to Amity's previous hairstyle). He also wears an orange-rimmed yellow T-shirt with a flaming cauldron symbol on it, a pair of grey sweatpants, and brown shoes.
In "For the Future", Ed appears with his original hairstyle but retains his now-slightly cracked glasses. After sustaining injuries during the Collector's campaign, his whole body, excluding his head, is confined to a white plaster cast. The cast also includes a brass neck brace and arm props. His arms have visible bruises beneath the bandages.
History[]
Season 1[]
Edric Blight first appeared in "Lost in Language", where Luz Noceda meets him, alongside his twin sister Emira, in the Bonesborough Library after her offer to help is rejected by their younger sister Amity. Luz and the twins quickly hit it off over their shared love of mischief. However, Luz would start having second thoughts when Ed and Em revealed that they planned to post the pages of Amity's diary across Hexside in revenge for her snitching on their antics. Despite struggling over Amity's diary, Luz and Ed ultimately leave the library on good, if strained terms.
Ed and his sisters return in "Adventures in the Elements", where he has been making up for the library incident by helping Amity with her magic at the Titan's Knee. When Luz accidentally attracts a Slitherbeast, he and Em attempt to subdue it, but are trapped in its lair alongside Eda Clawthorne. Fortunately, Luz and Amity defeat the Slitherbeast and free them. The twins later reappear in "Enchanting Grom Fight", where they help Luz and Amity train for fighting Grometheus and later appear at the Grom venue chatting to each other.
Edric also cameos in the season finale "Young Blood, Old Souls" as an attendee at Eda's public petrification.
Season 2[]
In the first half, Ed appears in "Escaping Expulsion", where he and Em help sneak Amity, Willow Park, and Gus Porter into Blight Mansion to save Luz from their mother Odalia's wrath. Ed later reappears in "Through the Looking Glass Ruins", having been looking for skin care tips in preparation for a date. He and Em help Amity come to terms with her feelings for Luz and later watch as she kisses her for the first time.
In the second half, Edric initially appears in "Follies at the Coven Day Parade" where he deals some fireworks to King Clawthorne. He reappears as the tritagonist of "Reaching Out", in which he reveals his normal appearances for the first time as he and Em give their concealment stones to Amity to create a fighting costume for the Bonesborough Brawl. While Amity fights in the Brawl, Ed walks in the nearby woods with his pet bat Batric, feeling insecure about his talents after he had unsuccessfully attempted a Beast-Keeping spell.
He eventually comes across Eda and her adoptive son King trying to collect wild ingredients to make a "blabber serum" that'll make the Brawl's champion, Warden Wrath reveal what happened to Eda's ex Raine Whispers. Impressed by his knowledge in demons, the two recruit Ed to help find ingredients and cook the serum. When Ed's father Alador interrupts the brawl, Edric tries to improvise the serum and force-feeds it to the subdued Wrath, only for the botched potion to transform him into a monster. When Wrath is reverted to normal, Edric apologizes to Eda for flubbing the potion, only for Eda to give him a much-needed confidence boost by encouraging him to keep honing his magic skills.
Ed also appears in "Labyrinth Runners" where, alongside his initial track of Illusions, he has now entered multi-track learning at Hexside, specifically learning Beast-Keeping and Potions. When Adrian Graye Vernworth and the Emperor's Coven arrive at the school to trick them into receiving coven sigils, his first candidate is Ed, though the procedure is cut short when Gus reveals Adrian's true colors. Later, when Adrian captures Gus, Ed and his sisters help Hunter and the other Hexside students rescue him.
He appears in "Clouds on the Horizon", where he, Amity and Em try to convince Odalia that Emperor Belos and the Day of Unity spells doom for the Boiling Isles (though he himself is correctly sceptical that she'd care about it), only to be captured by her and grounded under maximum security.
Season 3[]
Ed makes a cameo, alongside Em and their father, in "Thanks To Them" on a drawing by Amity put up in the Portal Shack.
Ed later makes a full physical reappearance in "For the Future", showing up to greet Amity when she arrives at New Hexside. He is wrapped neck-down in a body cast, having gained injuries when he fell down a rock-filled well trying to escape one of the Collector's spies after leaving the mansion with Emira and searching for Amity, although he does break his arms free so he can hug his sisters. He is later seen being dragged away by a rogue Baby Class student, screaming for everyone to "tell his story".
Edric makes three appearances in the series finale "Watching and Dreaming": firstly as a petrification victim alongside his sister and father in Luz's Collector-induced nightmare, secondly cheering for Principal Bump alongside the other Hexside students as he returns after Belos is defeated, only to be knocked over by Boscha as she runs to hug her teammates, and thirdly in the epilogue, where he is now an adult and is working as a teacher at Eda's University of Wild Magic. He later appears in the final scene attending Luz's quinceanara alongside his sisters and father.
Trivia[]
