Edward is the main character of "Friendly Face", the first story of the eponymous book Fazbear Frights.
Description[]
Edward is a short, dark-haired boy who looks like his mother.
He is rather absent-minded and somewhat clumsy, very fond of reading and doing science.
History[]
His father abandoned him and his mother when he was only 3 years old and went to live on the other side of town with his new family, although for Christmas and his birthday he sends him $20 and a gift card.
After leaving school with their friend Jack, they find an abandoned cat after school and decide to adopt him, naming him Faraday. They begin to teach the cat tricks and over the months form a strong bond with her.
One day, Faraday follows a butterfly outside. Jack chases him to try to keep him safe, but they are both hit by a truck and killed. After witnessing the accident, Edward is traumatized and mourns their deaths, especially because they were his only two friends.
While watching TV, a Fazbear Entertainment advertisement for their "Fazbear Friendly Faces" service suddenly appears. This is a program that helps people grieving over the loss of a pet by recreating it. The process is performed by taking the DNA of a pet to recreate its face, and then implanting it into the animatronic's body. Edward pays for an expensive service and takes some hair from Faraday's corpse left on the road, and accidentally also takes some of Jack's hair.
The process usually takes eight weeks, but it takes ten weeks to complete Edward's order. Eventually, a package from Fazbear Entertainment is sent to Edward's house, which appears at his door on a stormy night. When he opens the package, he finds a cat with Jack's face and is horrified. Disgusted by the abomination, Edward buries the cat, now called "Friendly Face," in his backyard. Despite the fact that the cat is buried, he does not stop smiling.
At night, he listens for sounds throughout the house, but finds nothing that could cause them. He eventually returns to bed, but a mud-splattered Friendly Face appears on his bed. His mother arrives when she hears his screams, but the cat has disappeared.
Months pass, and Edward sees the face of the "cat" wherever he goes. He tries to go back to his backyard to see if the Friendly Face is still there where he buried it, but he can't muster up the courage.
One day, returning home, he meets a Friendly face on the street. He chases Edward through the woods and tries to wrap himself around his ankles, and Edward fears that he will get angry after burying him. While running out of the woods, he is hit by a truck and bleeds to death. A friendly face waits by Edward's lifeless inert body, wanting him to get up so they can play some more.
Trivia[]
Edward has similarities with some of the previous Fazbear Frights protagonists:
- Just like Devon, Edward is a lonely child who was abandoned by his father when he was three years old and who has only two friends, for Edward it's Jack and Faraday, for Devon it's Kelsey and Mick. Edward, as well as Devon, is in love with his classmate, who does not put him in anything.
- Just like Pete, Edward is hit by a car due to the animatronic's pursuit.
