Biography[]
Background[]
Edwin Jarvis was born around April of 1913-1914 in England to unnamed parents, and would go on to join the British Armed Forces as an aide to an unnamed general. While traveling across Europe as an aide, he met a woman named Ana in Hungary, and the two fell in love. When the Second World War started, Jarvis wanted the general to give his transit letters to Ana to protect her from the Nazi Party. The general refused, and Jarvis decided to steal one of the letters and forged the signature to save Ana. Once the incident was discovered, Jarvis was accused of treason, but Edwin and Ana were saved by Howard Stark. Afterward, Edwin was discharged from the military, and became a close friend to Stark and later his butler.
Agent Carter[]
While working as Starks' butler in the United States, Jarvis was tasked with assisting SSR agent Peggy Carter in finding the documents on the formula of Nitramene. He would help her disable a bomb in the night club La Martinique, investigate the murder of her roommate, and save her from the Roxxon Refinery explosion. When Stark was accused of treason, Jarvis assisted Peggy in clearing his master's name, which caused the butler to gain a thirst for adventure. Once Peggy returned to stop Whitney Frost, Jarvis gladly returned to help her fight, but when his wife was nearly killed, he decided to rethink his decision.
Once Whitney was defeated, Jarvis decided to not enter a life of adventure, and continued to support the Stark family when Howard had a son named Tony. Edwin became close to Tony due to the child finding solace in the butler when his parents were away, and became even closer after Howard and Maria's deaths. When Jarvis passed away, Tony decided to honor his late butler by naming his A.I. after him - J.A.R.V.I.S.
Avengers: Endgame[]
Jarvis appears as a minor character in Avengers: Endgame, appearing in the alternate 1970 timeline when Iron Man and Captain America went back in time to obtain the mind stone. When Howard asks Jarvis if he had a met a man named "Howard Potts" before, and Edwin stated that he had met a lot of people, afterwards Howard commented on the man's "weird" beard
