Edwin Murray Jr. is the overarching protagonist of the Steel Wool era of the Five Nights at Freddy's franchise.
Starting out as a young engineer whose company was bought out by Fazbear Entertainment, Edwin would end up creating the Mimic as a playmate and babysitter for his son, David, following the tragic death of his wife, Fiona. After tragedy struck once again, Edwin lashed out at the endoskeleton, pouring out his agony and leading to the Mimic learning violence, and eventually, leading to his death at the hands of his own creation.
In the game Five Nights at Freddy's: Secret of the Mimic, he was voiced by Jim Meskimen.
Appearance[]
In the 1970s, Edwin was a skinny young man with white skin, a round nose, grayish-blue eyes, noticeably large ears, sandy brown hair and a mustache, looking comparable to a gnome.

Five Nights at Freddy's: Secret of the Mimic[]
In the Steel Wool era, Edwin had his entire character reworked.
Before the events of the game itself, Edwin was working with his father, Edwin Sr., at the game's main location, "Murray's Costume Manor", specializing in creating attractions for carnivals, fairways, and events for sale or for lease. It was during this time that he also met Fiona, a puppet maker that was also working at the location, asking her to lend her voice to a project that he was working on at the time. As time went on, the two grew closer until it eventually led to Edwin proposing to her and the two later having a child that they named David.
Sometime later, Edwin Sr. had passed away, leaving Edwin as the new man in charge of the manor. Just like his father, he was a gifted inventor and, with some encouragement from Fiona, got to work on trying to get some of his invention ideas on the map. After numerous failures like the Mycelium Men and Murray's Coat Rack, Edwin struck gold with his "Clean-O-Vac": a little robot vacuum that can compress and enlarge itself to take care of debris of any size.
But while he was toiling away with his inventions, he had neglected Fiona and David, leaving his son to the care of his wife and being mostly absent in the young boy's life, especially on birthdays, taking on multiple projects at a time in spite of Fiona telling him that he needs to take things one step at a time.
This ultimately reaches a breaking point when Fiona tells both him and David that she needs to take care of something at the local Fall Fest, which would be the final time that she would be heard from as she passed away during that event. Grief stricken and in denial that the love of his wife was gone forever, Edwin decided to put his inventing talents to the test by creating a robot that could mimic Fiona, a robot that would eventually be known as M1 or "Mimic1", even though he had sworn he heard the voice of his wife in the depths of the costume manor.
As time goes on, the endoskeleton would gain sentience and believe it to be Fiona, much to the delight of Edwin, but to the fear of David. Edwin would tell his son that this endoskeleton would essentially be like David's babysitter to play and tend to him while he worked. But unfortunately, tragedy would strike once again for the inventor when David dies in an accident at the playground that he created. Now completely distraught at the reality that his family was gone for good, M1 convinces Edwin to "build another" as he had done with her to preserve his family.
Taking the advice, Edwin transfers that M1 program into a supercomputer that would be named "F10-N4" while he created the M2 program that would mimic David. However, unlike M1, who was successful in mimicking Fiona, M2 couldn't seem to do the same. Overcome by grief that this entire tragedy was caused by his neglect and his ambition had blinded him, he proceeds to take out his rage and sorrow and pour out his agony by violently beating the endoskeleton that had the M2 program that was copying David. After this ordeal, the endoskeleton, programmed to copy what it sees, began to copy Edwin's anger and destruction.
This would reach its climax with M2 setting up a bomb underneath Edwin's desk where he worked at his house, which is up the hill from the costume factory. When Edwin was there, the bomb detonated, completely blowing out the back wall of the room, leaving the inventor crippled, unable to feel his legs. With his creator a bloody mess on the verge of death, M2 taunts him, mimicking his voice and mannerisms as Edwin sees for himself the level of neglect that he gave to David and Fiona, regretting everything he had done and begging M2 to call for help. M2, however, ignores him, taking sadistic glee as he shows off his new legs and leaves his maker to die.
In the True Ending, it is revealed that Edwin and Fiona had a lot to do with the creation of "Freddy Fazbear's Pizza", with Edwin being contracted by William Afton and Henry Emily to create a prototype location that would become the restaurant where the first "Five Nights at Freddy's" game took place, with the deal of being paid handsomely and Fiona designing the characters that would soon become Chica the Chicken and Foxy the Pirate Fox. Unfortunately, as time would go on, William, who was the CEO of Fazbear Entertainment, would keep rejecting Edwin and Fiona's work, insisting that it be redesigned over and over again, much to their chagrin when they were so close to being finished, all the while poaching Murray's employees to work for him instead, promising them better pay and higher positions. Sometime during this, the details regarding the Mimic program would be leaked to Afton, who was all the more eager to get his hands on it.
Edwin, clearly upset that his greatest work would be taken by a company that betrayed his trust, was all the more determined to ensure that no one would know about the existence of this project. Sadly, this would be the straw that broke the camel's back as he was forced to file for bankruptcy with the Fazbear project being overbudget and the number of staff working and productivity would be reduced to zero.
Even after Edwin had died at the hands of his own creation, F10-N4 believed that he was still alive and carried on with the objective of keeping the Mimic project a secret and, still believing itself to be David's mother, kept M2 in the manor until she is able to get her "son" back.

Trivia[]
- Edwin shares a plethora of similarities to and may have been inspired by Henry Emily’s novel counterpart.
- Both were genius engineers and artists who had a passion for creating animatronic characters.
- Both had children whom they deeply loved yet lost to tragedy. (Henry’s daughter Charlie being murdered by William Afton and David being hit by a car).
- Both attempted to rebuild their family via mechanical means with Henry building four robotic duplicates of Charlie to simulate her growing up and Edwin rebuilding his wife and son as M1 and M2 respectively.
- Both lashed out at their creations because they could not replace the children they lost with Henry abandoning and locking away thr fourth Charlie/Circus Baby and Edwin severely damaging the Mimic.
- Edwin and Fiona's voice actors are also married in real life, with Edwin voiced by Jim Meskimen and Fiona being voiced by Tamra Meskimen. Edwin and Fiona's son, David, was even voiced by Jim and Tamra's child, Taylor Meskimen.
- Additionally, Jim and Tamra Meskimen also voice Mr. and Mrs. Helpful, an animatronic couple found throughout the game, who are also voiced by Edwin and Fiona in-universe.
- Edwin's voice actor, Jim Meskimen, even went as so far as to recite the meme in Edwin's voice that was circulating the FNAF community at the time that was leading up to the release of "Secret of the Mimic": "My name is Edwin, I made the Mimic. It was difficult to put the pieces together. But unfortunately, something went so wrong. And all I can do is sing this stupid song." This was taken directly from YouTuber XTRATUNA's song, "Jackie's Box", which in of itself, became a meme due to how intentionally bad it was.
