Elasti-Woman(real name Gertrude Cramp), also known by her stage name Rita Farr is a fictional in the DC Universe streaming services, appearing as a supporting character in Titans, and the deuteragonist in the live-action series Doom Patrol with Robotman, Negative Man, Crazy Jane and Cyborg.
She is a former renowned actress and Hollywood starlet who's biology was mutated by a unidentified gas while shooting a film, which gave her longevity and elasticity, but caused her turn into a blob if she lost control. Though originally going into hiding, Rita would meet Dr. Niles Caulder and find shelter at his mansion, and became a member of the Doom Patrol.
She is portrayed by April Bowlby, as Lana Jean Turner portrays her as a young girl.
Biography[]
Early Life[]
Gertrude Cramp was born in 1929 to Vance and Addie Cramp, and at a young was inspired to become an actress as her mother was one at some point. Though Gertrude still persuade acting, she was devastated to learn that her mother was sleeping with a movie executive that arrived at home, something she would remember decades later. Gertrude would accomplish her dream of becoming an actress, and went by the stage name "Rita Farr" since Gertrude wasn't marketable. Rita became a famous actress in her time in Hollywood, and was once nominated for a golden globe and also had several roles in different genres.
While acting in Hollywood, Rita would befriend a producer named Gene, and would help him exploit young women who wanted to become actresses themselves so she could get roles. During this time, Rita would be confronted by one women who had fathered one of Gene's children, and Farr was told to deal with the situation by giving the women money. A week later, Rita would learn that the women committed suicide, and Rita felt guilty for her death and leaving the child an orphan. Though Rita initially wanted to adopt the child, her producer told her that she could get the role in the upcoming film, Forbidden Congo.
Getting her Powers[]
While shooting the film Forbidden Congo in Africa, Rita fell into water from a gangway where she came into contact with a gas, but was rescued by a crew member. On shore, Rita became deformed due to the gas mutating her biology, causing her body to turn elastic and becoming a blob. Horrified of a new appearance and seeing that her film career was over, Rita decided to go into hiding until she met Dr. Niles Caulder, who allowed her to find safety at his mansion. Going to the Doom mansion, Rita discovered that Caulder would bring in outcast who have suffered tragedies or incidents that scarred them physically or emotionally, and have them be sheltered from the public. Due to her insecurities, Rita remained stuck in the past despite years passing, and would use her acting talent to control her emotions to prevent from losing control of her powers. Unbeknownst to Rita, Dr. Caulder had created the gas as part of project to obtain immortality, and would keep Rita there to do studies.
Titans[]
In the season one episode "Doom Patrol", Rita first appears when Beast Boy decides to bring Rachel Roth to the Doom mansion to help her. At dinner, Rita greeted Rachel and was comforted by the girl when she briefly lost control of her powers, and later assisted Dr. Caulder in helping his patient Shyleen Lao. When Dick Grayson and Kory Anders arrived at the mansion, Rita initially treated them harshly, but when they wanted to help Rachel, she allowed them in and hugged Beast Boy goodbye.
Doom Patrol[]
When Cliff Steele arrived at the mansion after having his brain planted into a robot after his body was destroyed, Rita assured him that Caulder would help him find his footing.

- Enhanced Healing: It's possible that Rita has enhanced healing, as she was able to recover from radiation quickly.

- Acting: Due to being a Hollywood actress and starlet, Rita is an exceptional actress, as she uses her talent to control her emotions to prevent her powers from becoming unstable.

- Power instability: Rita has little voluntary control over her powers, as they become unstable when she is ever stressed or nervous.
- Increased Metabolism: Due to her elastic physiology, Rita has to consume a large amount of calories in order to remain in her natural form.
- Blob Deformation: When stressed or nervous, Rita will lose control of her powers that cause her body to turn into a deformed blob.
