Elayne Trakand is one of the primary protagonists of the book series, The Wheel of Time. She rules as the Queen of Andor, and later she also becomes Queen of Cairhien. She is also an Aes Sedai of the Green Ajah, and is one of the three love interests of Rand al'Thor.
Elayne was born as the second child and only daughter of Queen Morgase of Andor with her husband, Taringail Damodred, the nephew of the King of Cairhien. As only women can sit the throne of Andor, Elayne was presumed to become queen herself one day, and was thus declared the official Daughter-Heir of Andor from the moment she was born.
During the main story, Elayne briefly meets Rand in the palace gardens when he visits Caemlyn. She becomes a much more important character when she is sent to the White Tower with her brother Gawyn as part of their training as Daughter-Heir and First Prince of the Sword. As Elayne can channel, she is enrolled as a novice, while Gawyn starts training as a Warder. She becomes good friends with Min Farshaw, Egwene al'Vere, and Nynaeve al'Meara. Elayne, Egwene, Nynaeve and Min embark on their first adventure to aid Rand at Falme, where they encounter threats such as the secret Black Ajah of the Aes Sedai, and the invaders from the Seanchan Empire across the ocean.
Elayne and the others return to the tower, where Siuan Sanche gives them clemency and privately acknowledges the Black Ajah threat. She allows Egwene and Elayne to be raised from novices to Accepted. As part of their mission to hunt the Black Ajah, they set off again to the Stone of Tear, where she meets with Rand after he is proclaimed the Dragon Reborn, and they begin a romantic relationship.
