Eleazar was recruited into Israel's intelligence agency, the Mossad, where he developed a reputation not only for explosive power, but for his unflappability. After several years working alongside agents of the CIA, Lazar decided to leave the Mossad, and join the CIA directly as a Middle East specialist.
~ Lazar's in-game bio.
You look like s**t. Or were you always that ugly? Hey. Thanks for... back there. Saved my ass. Maybe you're one of us after all. No matter what happens, I never forget the people I owe.
~ Lazar to Bell if chosen over Park (player-determined).

Biography[]

Early Life[]

Eleazar Azoulay was born on October 25, 1948, Washington D.C. to unnamed parents who were political science professors, and was their second child. His father would move the family to Israel to be close to his ailing parents in 1950, and also accepted a position at the Tel Aviv School of Law and Economics. After graduating from high school, where he excelled in every sport he chose, Eleazar went to Royal Holloway, University of London for four years.

Going by the nickname "Lazar", he joined the Israel Defense Forces around June 1st, 1976, and was later recruited into Israel's intelligence agency, Mossad. While working as a special operative and demolitions expert, Lazar would become an asset of the CIA for missions in the Middle East, and left the Mossad and used his dual citizenship to become a full member of the CIA. In 1980, Lazar managed to eliminate a MI6 double agent who went by the name "Madam Shell", having decapitated her in a similar manner she left most of her victims.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War[]

Perseus' Manhunt[]

In 1981, Lazar was recruited into joining Russell Adler's team to stop Perseus, a Soviet spy who is the leader of his own spy network that goes by the same name. Lazar was recruited alongside CIA agents Lawrence Sims, Alex Mason, Frank Woods, MI6 agent Helen Park, and the newly-programmed agent named "Bell". Lazar was informed by Adler and Park that "Bell" was programmed, since they were close associates of Perseus" and Adler managed to save them from the Trabzon Airport operation. Meeting the team at the safehouse in West Berlin, Adler has "Bell" recall their past memories of Operation Fracture Jaw, where "Bell", Adler, and Sims found intel on Perseus in Vietnam. Due to "Bell" being programmed by Adler and Park, the mission are implanted for the CIA's use. "Bell" managed to decode the intel, and got stuck on the name of Anton Volkov, a Russian mafia arms dealer Anton Volkov and an associate of Perseus.

Knowing that Volkov will got out in the open, the team decide to follow his chief courier Franz Kraus, and are assisted by BND spy Greta Keller. However, Keller's informant Lukas Keller was apprehended by the Stasi, and Lazar regroups with "Bell" to meet Park at a storefront. Lazar and Park task "Bell" with placing a tracker in Kraus' briefcase, and they succeed in doing so. Franz then kidnaps "Bell" and Greta, brining them to Volkov to be interrogated. Lazar, Park, and Adler rescue "Bell" and Greta (if alive), and battle Volkov's henchmen, and Kraus is killed. "Bell" then corners Volkov, and the player has the choice to either apprehend or eliminate Volkov. After the operation, Lazar learns from Woods and "Bell" that Jason Hudson is the head of Operation Greenlight, a CIA nuclear program where American nukes are placed across Europe.

After Adler, Woods, and Mason confront Hudson on the situation, they also learn that Perseus stole a nuke from Berlin. The CIA also learn that Perseus has the list of sleeper agents that were programmed by Nikita Dragovich and Friedrich Steiner, and Adler sends Mason and Woods to Mount Yamantau to collect the mainframe. However, Hudson's superior Emerson Black reveals that Perseus wiped it, leaving the only source to get the list from the KGB headquarters in Moscow. Adler decides to have KGB double agent Dimitri Belikov help him and "Bell" infiltrate the KGB, and Lazar helps the three escape from the headquarters after they collect the list. After the operation, the CIA pin point Theodore Hastings as the sleeper agent Perseus will use to arm the nuke, and will have him do at an empty compound in Havana, Cuba. Lazar and Park work with the team in fighting Tropas in Havana, and they learn from Hastings that Persues had him arm all of the nukes across Europe, and plans on blaming the United States.

Lazar, Park, and "Bell" meet up with CIA agents while holding down a position to exfil, but they are attacked by a Tropas soldier with an RPG. Lazar and Park are critically injured, and "Bell" is forced to choose one of them to escape with the skyhook, or left them both behind to be killed by Tropas. If the player saves Lazar, he thanks them at the safehouse, and helps Adler and Sims during "Bell's" interrogation. After recalling their past memory with Perseus, Adler, Lazar, and Sims reveal that "Bell" was a close associate of Perseus, and that they were left for dead by Perseus' associate Arash Kadivar. The player has the option to either tell the truth of Perseus's location, or lie and take them to the wrong location out of resentment.

Endings[]

Lazar Azoulay is recovering from his injuries in Tel Aviv. He'll return to the Agency in good time. The pursuit of Perseus is personal for him now.
~ Hudson to Black on Lazar recovering (player-determined).
We we're able to recover Agent Azoulay's body from the compound in Cuba. President Reagan personally reached out to his family, and his casket is in transit to Tel Aviv.
~ Hudson to Black on Lazar's death (player-determined).
If "Bell" tells Adler that "Perseus" is located at the Solvovetsky Islands, Lazar returns to Tel Aviv to reunite with his family and recover from their injures. If the player chose Lazar, Hudson informs Black that he is recovering in Tel Aviv, and will return to the CIA to to personally hunt down Perseus for Park's death. If the player chose Park, Hudson informs Black that the CIA recovered Lazar's body, and President Ronald Reagan personally reached out to his family. Hudson also mentions that Lazar will be buried in Tel Aviv, stating that his casket is being taken to Israel.

You say Eleazar Azoulay perished in Cuba. We will not miss that one. His interference with our middle east assets will be a distraction no more.
~ Perseus on Lazar's death in Cuba (player-determined).
The others, however, are still out there. I will finish them off if I have to.
~ "Perseus" if "Bell" didn't signal the ambush, and Lazar is alive (player-determined).
If "Bell" decides to betray the CIA, they will take Park/Lazar (or neither), Adler, Mason, and Woods to the abandoned town of Duga-2. Finding the location empty, the team confront "Bell", who reveals that he lied to them, and the player can signal the ambush. If the player doesn't signal the ambush, Adler kills "Bell" and the team leave the area. If the player does signals the ambush, the team are killed. After "Bell" kills Adler, Perseus allows them to signal the detonation of the American nukes, destroying cities in Europe. In the ending, Perseus shows gratitude to "Bell" for eliminating Lazar, seeing that his interface with Soviet assets in the Middle East caused troubles for the spy network. However, if "Bell" didn't signal the ambush and was killed, "Perseus" states that the others agents are still out there, and that he will eliminate them.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6[]

Lazar would have loved this. That said, I think the undead would have scared him s-itless.
~ Helen Park when pack-a-punching a weapon.

In the zombies mode, when pack-a-punching any weapon, one of Park's dialogue options mentions Lazar potentially loving the Pack-a-Punch machine.

Quotes[]

Trivia[]

  • Though his fate is entirely left up to the player, it is confirmed that Bell canonically chose Helen Park over him since he isn't a playable operator in Warzone or multiplayer.
    • While later added as an operator in the "Lazar Operator Bundle", he is canonically deceased.
  • He appears to have a love for Chinese takeout, as he can be seen holding a box in the safehouse and his operator intro has him eating it.
  • His operator counterpart has more of an Americanized accent than his campaign counterpart.
