~ Elfilin |
Elfilin is the deuteragonist of the 2022 video game Kirby and the Forgotten Land. He joins Kirby on an adventure to save numerous Waddle Dees that were kidnapped by the Beast Pack.
He was voiced by Kurumi Mamiya.
Appearance[]
Elfilin is a small furry teal-colored creature with gleaming blue eyes, a tiny triangular nose, and a pair of large round ears that are akin to those of an elephant. He also has little arms and feet, and sports a long puffy tail. Elfilin and his ally Kirby appear about the same size, although Elfilin's ears make him seem bigger than the rest of his body actually is. His right ear has a big round nick in it, which he received through unknown means.
Personality[]
Due to representing the small part of Fecto Elfilis that's capable of compassion after splitting apart from them, Elfilin is a very kind and friendly being who, in a similar vein to Kirby, is quick to make friends with anyone who isn't hostile towards him and is eager to help anyone in need. Despite not being very capable on his own in a fight and easily scared when being faced with the Beast Pack on his own, he's eager to do his part to rescue the Waddle Dees by giving Kirby advice throughout his journey. Contrary to his occasional timidness though, he also demonstrates that he can be very brave when he's in a situation where he knows he can make a difference, since he doesn't hesitate to close the dimensional rift that his evil counterpart opens up to crash Planet Popstar and the Forgotten Land into one another, even though he knew it would exhaust all his energy and that he may not have a means to see Kirby again, further emphasizing his selflessness.
Naturally, due to their similar personalities, he quickly gets along very well with Kirby, and becomes especially close with him over the course of the game. However, while not as close to any of them to the extent he is with Kirby, by the end of the game, he even ends up being on friendly terms with King Dedede and the Beast Pack, including Leongar, showcasing how quick he is to forgive and befriend anyone who's willing to reciprocate (though he likely also knew that them kidnapping the Waddle Dees and himself was only done due to being corrupted and used by Fecto Forgo rather than of their own free will). In terms of his likes and dislikes, on the one hand, he appears to really enjoy swimming and theme parks based on his dialogue when he and Kirby are travelling through Everbay Coast and Wondaria Remains. Conversely, he seems to be quite sensitive to particularly hot and cold temperatures, or at least really dislike them, since he will voice his concern and discomfort about the conditions of Winter Horns and Redgar Forbidden Lands very quickly when travelling through them.
Biography[]
Kirby and the Forgotten Land[]
Elfilin first met Kirby after he was saved from Awoofies that had raided and destroyed Waddle Dee Town. He thanks Kirby for the rescue, but is concerned for the Waddle Dees that were captured during the raid and vows to save them. Kirby decides to help Elfilin on his journey and explore the Forgotten Land together in search of caged Waddle Dees while also facing off against members of the Beast Pack, the group behind the kidnappings.
Unfortunately, Elfilin is eventually captured by a brainwashed King Dedede after he's battled in Winter Horns and taken to a facility called Lab Discovera, where he is revealed to be the missing portion of an extraterrestrial being that the Beast Pack leader, Leongar, has been trying to revive, and Elfilin contains the being's compassionate traits within his body. Although Kirby is able to make his way through Originull Wasteland and Redgar Forbidden Lands to get there, defeat Leongar in combat and rescue Elfilin, the alien life-form breaks free of it’s containment and chases them until it manages to absorb Elfilin by force, transforming the creature into Fecto Elfilis.
Kirby battles Fecto Elfilis on the Lab Discovera rooftop and weakens it enough to let Elfilin separate from its body, causing the villain's physical form to become unstable and allowing Kirby to deliver the final blow. However, despite their victory, Fecto Elfilis was able to open a vortex big enough to cause Planet Popstar to collide with the Forgotten Land. Elfilin decides to use his power to close the vortex and save both worlds, although he risks not seeing Kirby again by doing so, and tearfully wishes his friend farewell as the vortex disappears from the skies of Dream Land along with himself. Kirby is saddened that his friend was gone, but a blue glow appears behind the pink puffball which causes him to smile happily, implying that Elfilin came back. This is then confirmed in the pictures that are shown over the credits, with Elfilin later confirming that Clawroline found him after he expended his power and nursed him back to health. With his power and health restored, they two could now travel back and forth between their worlds whenever they wished to. As also shown in the pictures, now that they were free of Fecto's influence, the Beast Pack members had turned friendly, and became friends to the two of them and the Waddle Dees.
However, their leader, Leongar, was still missing, which worried Clawroline. Sometime later, she noticed a dimensional rift that had opened on the Observation Tower in Waddle Dee Town. Elfilin and Kirby investigate before being sucked in by the rift, being taken to Isolated Isles: Forgo Dreams, a world created by Fecto Forgo's dreams when they were trapped within the Eternal Capsule. There, Fecto Forgo's soul, known as Soul Forgo, had begun creating an army of phantom beasts and plotted to use Leongar's body as their vessel, shattering his soul into 300 pieces and scattering them throughout the Isolated Isles.
Determined to repay Clawroline back for saving him, Elfilin set out with Kirby to collect the pieces of his soul before arriving at the spot where Leongar's body was being kept. Elfilin takes the collected soul pieces and gives them to Leongar, who reawakens and celebrates with the two, only for his mind to once again get taken over by Soul Forgo. Soul Forgo, using the resulting Forgo Leon as a puppet, then attempts to fight off Kirby and Elfilin, but Leongar is defeated, exorcising Soul Forgo out of his body. Soul Forgo prepares to fight the two heroes themself, but a butterfly flutters in from outside, lands on their face, and consumes Soul Forgo, using their power to become Morpho Knight, who then attacks Kirby and Elfilin. Kirby defeats Morpho Knight, after which the two of them attempt to wake Leon, but their efforts prove futile. The two look down in sadness, believing he had perished in the ordeal, before Clawroline and the rest of the Beast Pack arrive with more soul pieces that they had collected. They all give the pieces to Leon, fully restoring him. Kirby, Elfilin and the Beast Pack celebrate Leon's restoration before returning to their dimension.
Sometime later, a dimensional rift opened in the Colosseum in Waddle Dee Town. Kirby and Elfilin enter it in the Ultimate Cup Z, traveling through another realm to face off against Fecto Forgo's phantom creations yet again. In the final battle, the two make their way back to the top of Lab Discovera, where they discover Chaos Elfilis, a newer and more powerful form that Fecto Elfilis had taken after Morpho Knight was defeated. After this happened, Soul Forgo was able to turn the tables and absorb their power, becoming Chaos Elfilis and teleported away after the last battle with no one noticing, now intent on using their new form for another attempt at revenge on Kirby. Kirby and Chaos Elfilis engage in a grueling final battle, which culminates in Kirby defeating Chaos Elfilis and causing them to dissipate into particles of light. The last, surviving piece of their essence, in the form of a light particle, floats down to Elfilin, who absorbed it into himself, putting an end to Fecto Forgo and allowing the two halves to become one permanently.
Trivia[]
- A good theory about how Elfilin received the nick in his right ear is that his captors might have taken a bite out of it during his attempts to escape the raids on Waddle Dee Town. An equally sensible theory is that there was a tag on that ear and that Elfilin was a lab rat.
- Many fans expected that Elfilin would betray Kirby, given how Marx and Magolor have done so in the past. This was eventually proven false; while he is indeed connected to Fecto Elfilis, the true main antagonist of the game, since he was their missing half, he was only forcefully assimilated by them in the climax so they could regain their true form and full power. However, he never personally opposed Kirby, and once he was freed from his other half once again, he helped Kirby save both worlds and remained his ally and friend in the post-game.
