Captain Elias T. Walker, call sign Scarecrow (1976 - 28/6/2027), is the tritagonist of Infinity Ward's 2013 video game Call of Duty: Ghosts.
He is a founding member turned leader of the de-facto U.S. elite special operations unit called Task Force STALKER, that became better known as the Ghosts. He became the head of the Fort Santa Monica base after the ODIN disaster that decimated the Southwestern United States, but would induct his sons David and Logan Walker into the Ghosts to fight against Rorke. Elias ultimately met his demise by his former leader Gabriel T. Rorke, leading to his sons to swear vengeance against the Federation commander.
He is voiced by Stephen Lang, who also played Waldo in Into the Badlands and Norman Nordstrom in the Don't Breathe films.
Biography[]
Background[]
Elias T. Walker was born in 1976 in the United States to unnamed parents, and later joined the United States Army at a young age. After joining the 1st Calvary Division, he met fellow soldiers Gabriel T. Rorke, Thomas A. Merrick, Keegan P. Russ, and Alex V. Johnson. At some point, he married a unnamed woman and bore two sons, David and Logan Walker, and lived with them in San Diego, California. Eventually, Elias' wife would pass, leaving him to raise his sons without a mother. He started to train them military teachings and tactics in the woods.
Operation: Sand Viper[]
In 2005, Walker was part of a group would participate in Operation: Sand Viper, a mission to save hospital patients during the Tel Aviv War. With the potential of the enemy threat overtaking the hospital, Elias and his unit stayed behind to defend the location as one soldier led the civilians to safety. The unit became well known for beating all odds by utilizing their training, and left one of their enemies alive, who referred to them as "Ghosts". After the operation, the team were put under psychological evaluation in Germany. Following their tests, Task Force STALKER was formed with Rorke in command, Elias as his second as Merrick, Russ, and Johnson all joined.
Stopping Almagro[]
In 2015, Rorke convinced the United States president to let the Ghosts do a surprise attack on the Federation, and assassinate their leader General Diego Almagro. Walker, Rorke, Merrick, and Johnson were sent to Caracas, Venezuela, and succeeded in assassinating Almagro. Despite the success, the plane they were in crashed, and Walker attempted to hold onto Rorke. Walker had to make on the hardest decisions of his life, and let Rorke go, saving Merrick and Johnson. Unbeknownst of the group, Rorke survived the fall into the water, and was captured, tortured, and brainwashed by the Federation to join their ranks (using Elias' "betrayal" to motivate him into becoming a member).
Following the operation, Rorke was made leader of STALKER, but ultimately retired from the Army and continued to train his sons.
Call of Duty: Ghosts[]
The ODIN Disaster of 2017[]
After telling the story of Ghosts' origin to his sons: David and Logan, tremors started happening. At first, Elias and the Walker brothers believe it to be a typical San Andreas fault movement, that is until Elias started noticing massive explosions coming from under the Earth's surface causing massive craters. Elias realized that it was ODIN turning against them (thanks to the Federation), and is firing tungsten rods from orbit at all of the U.S. land. After telling his sons to get back home, Elias went to check on what's going on. After a tanker truck exploded, he and David carry an injured Logan to safety, and left in their vehicle.
War Against the Federation[]
During the ten years of the Federation War, Elias was put in command of the military and tasked units to protect citizens behind Liberty Wall. Following Operation Homecoming, Walker recruited his sons into the Ghosts and told them of Rorke, whom had started to hunt down his former allies for their "betrayal". He sends the Ghosts to capture Rorke in the Gulf of Mexico, Elias interrogates his former ally until the Federation destroys their plane. Surviving via parachutes, the Ghosts evade Federation forces and are saved by the military. Needing to level the playing field, Elias sends the Ghosts on numerous operations to cripple the Federation, such as destroying an oil rig and gathering intel on missiles for a secret project.
Death[]
Learning that the Federation had reverse-engineered the wreckage from ODIN to create LOKI, Elias sends Keegan to Colorado Springs while he, Hesh, Logan ad Riley to go to safehouse in Las Vegas. At the safehouse, they are captured by Rorke, whom proceeds to interrogate and torture Elias. While Logan was trying to kill Rorke, Elias was accidentally shot by his youngest son and Logan was thrown to the floor. Before being shot and killed, Elias reassured Logan and implies that he's proud of his sons.
Legacy[]
Logan and David decided to get revenge on Rorke, going as far to attack him on his train in "Ghost Killer". In addition, Logan received his mask, given to him by Merrick, who had become the commanding officer of the Ghosts. Logan and David failed to get their revenge, as Rorke survived their attempt to kill him, but managed to cripple the Federation. Despite this, Rorke kidnapped Logan so he could torture him.
Quotes[]
“ | It was a different time, a different enemy. Sixty men, from Tier One teams, were sent to face down a force of five hundred enemy fighters. Their objective: to force the enemy back from a civilian hospital, and keep its occupants alive. For three days, they held their ground, but the enemy's numbers were too great. The sixty were cut down to fifteen. They wouldn't last another night, and the enemy knew it. Under the cover of darkness, they evacuated the hospital, sending only one of their own to lead the way. The rest returned to the line, and took up positions beneath the bodies of their fallen brothers. As they lay in wait, the blood from the dead poured over them. The sand stuck to their skin like a shroud. Changing them. Anointing them. When the enemy drew near, the remaining fourteen rose out of the desert sand. They were like hunters that couldn't be seen, using stealth their enemies couldn't defend against. When the men ran dry of ammunition, they used their blades...and when the blades ran dull, they used their hands. When the dust and sand had settled, only one of the enemy had survived. He was picked up in the desert, wandering aimlessly, traumatised
. He expressed warnings to others of a force so menacing and unbeatable, it could only be described as supernatural. He called them..."Ghosts". |

“ | There are ancient tribes which are deep in the Amazon who perfected the art of torture over hundreds of years. The Federation embraced this heritage by enhancing it with more sophisticated methods. They kept Rorke in a hole for months by feeding him the food that are mixed with the poisons of the exotic plants. As they broke his body down, they went to work on his mind.
