Emil Blonsky, formerly known as the Abomination, is a supporting character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
He was a Russian-born English-raised soldier loaned to SOCOM by the Royal Marines and tasked by Thaddeus Ross to capture Bruce Banner. After being given a dosage of the recreated Super Soldier Serum and seeing Banner's powers as the Hulk, Blonsky became power-hungry and gained a dosage of Banner's blood and became a deformed but formidable monster, wanting to prove himself as the greatest fighter on Earth.
Following years behind bars, Blonsky has changed his ways for good and is willing to rejoin society as a new man, requesting the assistance of Banner's cousin, Jennifer Walters, to do so. He was later imprisoned for breaking the condition of his release, before being snuck out to Kamar-Taj by Wong.
He is portrayed by Tim Roth, who also played Freddy Newandyke in Reservoir Dogs and Skellig in the film of the same name.
The Abomination's voice work in The Incredible Hulk was provided by JB Blanc (who also voiced Hashirama Senju in the Naruto video games, Rubeus Hagrid in Harry Potter: Wizards Unite and Hood Sickle in Skylanders: Imaginators), J.D. Hall, Fred Tatasciore (who also voiced Damon Baird and Tai Kaliso in the Gears of War series, Nikolai Belinski in the Call of Duty series and Zeratul in the StarCraft series) and Jonathan Lipow (who also voiced Sheriff Rao in the Sand Land anime and Wrecking Ball in Overwatch), and they all provided voice work for the Hulk in the same film.
Appearance[]
When Emil injects himself with the Super Soldier serum, he transforms into a hulking, monstrous figure known as Abomination. His appearance features a muscular build, towering over 12 feet tall, with skin that is a vibrant green and a lesser green underbelly. Notably, spikes protrude from various parts of his body, including his back, feet, elbows, and along his spine.
In this redesign of Abomination, he maintains the same height and muscular build, but his entire body is now completely green, with a distinctive belly button marking his monstrous form. Additionally, he sports fish-like ears and back scales, enhancing his mutated, otherworldly appearance.
Biography[]
Background[]
Emil Blonsky was born in Russia, but was raised in England where he joined the Royal Marines. At some point he reached the rank of captain, and was put on loan for the United States Special Operations Command.
The Incredible Hulk[]
Locating Bruce Banner in Brazil, Lt. General Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross recruits Blonsky to join the Strategic Operations Command Center (SOCC) to track down the scientist. In Brazil, Blonsky is thwarted by Banner when he transforms into the Hulk at the Pingo Doce Bottling Plant. Following the failed operation, Emil becomes obsessed with the Hulk's raw power and receives the super soldier serum to even the playing field. General Ross later receives a tip from Leonard Samson on Banner's location at Culver University, and Blonsky is cleared for duty to continue the manhunt. Despite his enhanced capabilities, the Royal Marine is critically injured by a transformed Banner before he escapes with Ross' daughter Betty.
However, Blonsky fully recovered due to the regenerative properties of the super soldier serum, received another injection by Ross and returned to active duty. With Banner once again located, Emil joined the task force unit and attempted to get his rematch by trying to provoke Bruce. His attempt failed as Banner was tranquilized beforehand, but Emil discovered the scientist's blood samples tested by Samuel Sterns. The Royal Marine then threatened Sterns with death if he didn't inject him with Banner's blood, and underwent a process similar to Bruce by being exposed to gamma radiation. Upon doing so, Blonsky transformed into the Abomination and knocked Sterns.
With his newfound powers, Blonsky proceeded to attack Harlem until the Hulk's arrival, thus receiving the rematch that he wanted. Though he initially seemed to have the upper hand during the battle, the Abomination was defeated and subdued by the Hulk with a chain.
Imprisonment[]
Following his defeat, Emil was imprisoned in a cyro-cell in a Alaska complex known as the Vault. During the Avengers Initiative, the World Security Council considered Blonsky a candidate, but it was rejected by General Ross and S.H.I.E.L.D. due his violent and unpredictable nature. He was later transferred to the Damage Control Supermax Prison, where he started to change for the better once he started speaking with women via the pen pal program. This change of heart also allowed him to make amends with Banner, writing a letter and haiku to express his remorse.
Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings[]
Around the 2020s, Blonsky became a fighter for the Golden Daggers Club and befriended the sorcerer Wong. He was present when Shang-Chi and Katy Chen met with Wong.
