Emile is one of the main characters of the french animated film A Monster in Paris.

He's voiced by Sébastien Desjours (known for voicing SpongeBob Squarepants and Knuckles the Echidna) in the french version and Jay Harrington in the english version.

Description[]

Emile is a small movie projectionist. He is red-haired with green eyes and wears mostly green clothes. Emile is very shy, dreamer and easily scared, especially when he is in the presence of his co-worker, Maud with whom he is in love. Lacking self-confidence at first, he will prove his courage by helping his friends to save Francoeur from Prefect Maynott who wants to kill him.

History[]

He dreams of a rescue he performs himself against a dragon during a screening that stops due to the film streamer getting tangled. He has to fix the problem by using his own belt to scroll through the movie and goes off to buy a new projector belt and a new camera that is stolen right after. Raoul involuntarily counteracts the thief and Emile recovers his camera.

In the evening, Emile films the Botanical Gardens and is the first witness to Francoeur's transformation into a giant flea. He shares what he saw with Raoul who replies that he goes to the movies too much.

The next day, Emile scrolls through his recordings from last night and understands that what he saw is real. With Raoul, they are questioned by Inspector Paté who wishes to arrest them for the creation of this "monster". But Victor Maynott does not hear it that way. Killing the giant chip will help him gain the trust of the people and decorate Emile and Raoul for their actions.

The two then go to "The Rare Bird" cabaret to witness Lucille's performance with Francoeur. Before which, Raoul discovers a letter from Emile addressed to Maud and the little man threatens him to confess that Raoul loves Lucille if he does not return the letter. After the show, Emile and Raoul meet Francoeur and are first scared and scream. Lucille silences them by slapping them and explains in her dressing room that Francoeur is harmless.

After a conference by Maynott, Emile gives his letter to Maud before leaving with Raoul and Charles to warn that the commissioner is going to look for Francoeur at the cabaret.

During a song by Lucille for the organization of the funicular, Emile gives an "antidote" to Maynott to kill the monster.

The latter then shows up and the prefect throws the vial at Francoeur who goes through a trapdoor under the stage and Maynott believes him dead. However, he becomes enraged upon seeing the live flea and chases him to the Eiffel Tower, followed by Lucille, Emile and Raoul.

They go to the building and Emile, who was going up the steps, hits Maud and explains to her that Francoeur is not bad. He then crosses paths with Maynott and orders him to stop but the guy pushes him violently down the stairs. Emile, tired of being belittled, takes matters in hand and goes up to the lighthouse of the tower. He manages to trip Maynott and retrieves his gun. But when the prefect threatens to throw Maud overboard, Emile returns the weapon to him but has a new idea. He activates the lighthouse which dazzles Maynott and hits him with Maud's umbrella. Losing his balance, the commissioner slips from the top of the tower and crashes lower down, knocked out. Impressed, Maud kisses Emile and with Raoul and Lucille witness the "death" of Francoeur.

During a new Lucille show, Raoul teaches Emile, Charles and Maud that Francoeur is alive and that he sings in Lucille's ear. During the show, Emile films Paté dancing with Carlotta, Lucille's aunt as well as Charles who serves customers.
