Emile is a major antagonist turned major protagonist in Dragalia Lost. He serves as the main antagonist for various events including "Trick or Treasure", "Caged Desire", and "Elementary Escapades". In spite of not being playable, he ends up being one of the main protagonists for the "Stranded Scions" event.

After some character development though, he becomes less antagonistic, and he is cemented as a hero in Chapter 23.

He is voiced by Yoshitsugu Matsuoka who is known for voicing Kazuto Kirigaya/Kirito in Japanese and latter voiced Hope. In English, he is voiced by Sam Vincent who latter voiced Raemond and Zardin.

Appearance[]

Prior to his redemption, Emile wore a green coat.

Following his development, he changes to a blue uniform and a blue hat.

Biography[]

The sixth scion of Alberia who became emperor of the Dyrenell Empire after the Other's defeat. Long tormented by comparisons to his siblings, he now looks inward to his own talents as he strives to rebuild the Empire with his vassals.

Story[]

Past[]

While Emile has the talent in arts, he saw such a thing as inferior to the talents of his other siblings. Unlike them, he was not a capable fighter. He wasn't good with a sword, he couldn't shoot with a bow, and he struggled with magic. As they got older, he started trying to get people to like him through force.

Before Redemption[]

When Morsayati awakened, Emile sided with him against Euden in hopes of proving himself better. However, no matter how hard he tried, Euden one-upped him every step.

After Morsayati was killed by Beren, Emile took the Dyrenell throne due to none of the other siblings claiming it. However, he still didn't get any respect.

Stranded Scions[]

When Emile gets stuck on an island with his siblings, he is forced to work with them to survive while two fiends are trying to kill them. While evading them Emile finds himself cornered by one only to be saved by Leonidas who seemingly falls to his death.

Emile blames himself for the incident and believes himself to be nothing more than a burden. After Chelle and Euden prepare a plan to deal with the fiends being dropping one in a trap for one of them to deal with while the rest handle the other one, Emile volunteers to handle the one they drop after Leonidas reveals himself to be alive acknowledging that Leonidas would be better suited handling the fiend still standing.

Emile supposedly manages to kill the other fiend, but he finds himself left behind when his siblings get rescued.

Gala Audric Adventurer Story and Gala Emile Adventurer Story[]

Audric soon finds out that Emile has taken over the Dyrenell Empire and goes to discuss with him about rulership. Emile tells him that acting like his siblings is the only way he knows how to get people to respect him, but Audric assures him that he can be a good ruler using the talents he has.

After Audric leaves, Emile can't stop thinking about what the alternate version of his father told him even after forgetting who Audric was.

Emile keeps trying to rule like how his siblings do. However, funding gets low, and there aren't many new recruits. Saboa and Magnus attempt to assure him that he can rule better if he tries to be himself instead of emulating his siblings, but Emile shoots the suggestions down under the belief that his talents in art and music are useless for a leader and tells them to leave him alone. Emile then continues to contemplate what he was told.

As he ponders, he is visited by Werner who gives him a bottle of wine laced with poison. After that, Emile is thrown into a lake to drown only to be saved by Mercury and brought to Saint Lotier where he is forced to pay for the accomodations. As he has no money, he needs to get work, but because of his reputation, he knows he will be arrested the moment he tries to apply for one. To remedy this, Mercury gives him a new set of clothes which he takes a liking to. While he attempts to get Mercury to help him get some paying work, she tells him that he needs to do something on his own for a change.

At first, Emile tries to work at the hotel he was dropped at, but he screws it up by attempting to charge too much. He attempts some other jobs, but is unable to pull any of them off. Soon enough though, he has a run in with a paint who he notices selling his work, giving Emile an idea. Upon which Emile makes a painting that is instantly bought.

After selling enough paintings, Emile manages to pay off what he owes. Shortly after, Mercury arrives again to ask him if he understands why the people of Saint Lotier are so enthusiastic about fine arts before letting him know that the appreciation was brought by Zacharias being able to maintain peace within the kingdom. With this revelation, Emile declares that he will make the Dyrenell Empire the most peaceful nation ever and marches off to reclaim his throne.

Upon arriving at the empire, Emile tries desperately to get people to follow him, but everybody mistakes him for an impersonator. After attempting to tell them that he is Emile, he is told that there was a funeral for his attempted assassination. After that, he is told how wasteful and self-centered he was as emperor along with bringing up his other misdeeds, and Emile can't help but acknowledge what they say to be true and starts to give up. However, when the people start saying they would prefer Emile over the new Emperor who is planning an attack on Saint Lotier by taxing them.

When Emile starts to say that he has Magnus handle taxes, he soon remembers the peace talk. It is then he realizes he needs to take down Werner, stop the war, and lower the taxes. He then sneaks into the castle only to alert some guards. Before they can find him though, he is grabbed by Saboa who informs him of Magnus being locked up for opposing Werner.

After freeing Magnus, Emile asks for his help and Saboa's in his goal to turn the Dyrenell Empire into a symbol of peace. With a plan in motion, Saboa brings Emile to Werner. However, Werner figures out the plan right away and surrounds them forcing Magnus to reveal himself and revealing he intentionally let Emile in. In spite of Werner's boasts about Emile being a coward and offer to spare Magnus and Saboa, the two remain loyal to Emile.

When Magnus starts calling Werner the coward, Emile challenges Werner to a duel in order to protect Magnus. However, Emile is worried about losing.

On the day of the duel, Werner offers Emile the first strike. Emile takes a swing only for Werner to knock his sword away. Being lectured about his poor performance as a ruler gets Emile to remember what Audric told him once more and remembering him as his father. With this, Emile gains a second wind to keep standing and announce that he will use his talent in fine arts to be a better ruler. With this new motivation, Emile suddenly shapeshifts into Mercury, much to his own surprise. With this brief surge in power, Emile manages to strike down Werner and reclaim the throne.

After which, he gets another visit from Mercury, who informs him that Euden's pact with her is what allowed him to shapeshift, and that he is deemed worthy. While annoyed about being saved by Euden, Emile gives a victory speech and declares his intent to change the empire for the better.

Months later, Emile manages to make progress in his vow of change, putting together a democracy and improving the economy substantially. Even his academy has gained more applicants.

Shortly after Emile gets a message from Leonidas, requesting him to go to Grams with aid in toe. At first, Emile is reluctant, but he soon decides to go through with if seeing it as an opportunity to get Euden to owe him for something for once. With his decision made, Emile gets an army ready to go and help Euden in Grams.
