Hero Overview

I guess I just want to be able to eat a lot of candy.
~ Emile explaining his dream to Mr. Green
Don't worry. Once Damian is grown up, I know he'll make Ostania a better place to live!
~ Ewen talking about his Damian's convictions

Emile Elman and Ewen Egeburg are major characters in the Spy × Family franchise. They are Damian Desmond's trusted lackeys who often follow him around the school and help him in his quest to become an Imperial Scholar.

Emile is voiced by Hana Satō (who also voiced Jin Mo-Ri as a child in The God of High School) in Japanese and by Macy Anne Johnson in English. Ewen is voiced by Haruka Okamura in Japanese and Michelle Rojas in English.

Appearances[]

Emile is a young boy with a square face, slanted eyes and small irises. He has a round physique, a snub nose, fangs, and blonde hair cut in a bowl shape. Like all other male students, he wears Eden Academy's uniform; black button-down shirt and black shorts. He wears white crew socks with black shoes.

Ewen is a young boy with fair skin and a long head. His hair is his unique feature; It is larger than its own head, light and combed backwards. When his hair is open, it reaches approximately chin length. Like all other male students, he wears Eden Academy's uniform; black button-down shirt and black shorts. He wears long white crew socks with black shoes.

Personalities[]

As Damian's trusted right-hand men, Emile and Ewen are both shown to have an undying loyalty to the Desmond heir, often following him around whenever he goes. Having come from rich families themselves, they both also share a somewhat snobbish and arrogant attitude, oftentimes making fun of the likes of Anya and Becky as a way to flaunt their status in the school. Emile and Ewen both have the tendency to praise Damian on his abilities and defend him from other people. Despite their submissive personalities, Emile and Ewen share a relationship of mutual respect with Damian, showing that their friendship is indeed genuine and unconditional. They are willing to go great lengths to help Damian in any way they can, even if it means risking their lives.

As individuals, Ewen is shown to have an affinity for space exploration and wants to become an astronaut when he grows up: a passion that none of his friends, save for Anya, really share, much to his dismay. Emile, on the other hand, does not have any aspirations of his own, but has stated his dream is to eat a lot of candy.

Trivia[]

  • According to Tatsuya Endo, Emile and Ewen's names and surnames both start with E as a way to show how they are always following Damian, as the letter E follows the letter D in the alphabet.
  • Their designs were loosely based off the japanese comedy duo Bananaman, with Emile sporting Yūki Himura's iconic bowl cut hairstyle.
  • The chairs they sit on the Volume 11 cover are a pair of Hill House chairs designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh, who also designed the chair used by Damian in the Volume 7 cover.
    • Emile and Ewen are also the first characters to appear together in a volume cover that features more than one character at once, followed by Camilla, Millie and Sharon in the Volume 13 cover.
