Emily Leduc is a character in the Arthur books by Marc Brown and the cartoon based on them. She is a young girl who is D.W.'s best friend and preschool classmate.
From Season 1 to 7 of the cartoon, she was voiced by Vanessa Lengies, before she was replaced by Sally Taylor Isherwood starting from Season 8. In the Season 1 episode "D.W., the Picky Eater", she was voiced by Saige Ann Estigoy.
Physical appearance[]
Emily is an anthropomorphic rabbit with cheek-length blonde hair and a yellow complexion. Most of the time, she wears a blue short-sleeved dress with a white collar and turquoise flower designs, as well as black shoes. She is also quite tall for her age. Likely due to the fact that her father is a monkey, she has an elongated jawline that resembles a monkey's.
Prior to Season 6, she wore a red collared dress with white flowers patterns and had short blonde hair with a red bow, and her complexion was cream.
In the book D.W., the Picky Eater, her hair and complexion were white and she wore an orange shirt with polka dots and green shorts.
Personality[]
Emily is usually a polite and kind girl but sometimes can display signs of hypocrisy in conversations. She has an interest in gymnastics, having met her D.W. at her teacher Ms. Morgan's gym class, and is also skilled at various other activities which tends to cause D.W. to become jealous of Emily when her skills at said activities she exceed hers.
However, her usual friendly personality temporarily underwent a drastic change upon being babysat by Binky Barnes in "The Good, the Bad, and the Binky." His rough ways caused her to have a short-lived interest in professional wrestling and bullying her classmates.
She is of French ethnicity, as evidenced by how she addresses her family, calling her grandmother "grand-mère" and her mother "maman", and she sometimes uses French vocabulary when in conversation with other people as well. She also has a French nanny, Renee (in "D.W. Flips") and Marie-Hélène (in other episodes), and is shown to be interested in various aspects of French culture, and in the episode "Kiss and Tell", is even shown to have once visited France.
Trivia[]
- Emily's favorite color is pink[1].
- Emily's mother is a rabbit but her father is a monkey, which makes her a half-breed. Although it's possible her mother got divorced and remarried, Emily also has a more elongated jawline compared to the other rabbit characters in Arthur that resemble a monkey's, implying that, at least, her biological father is a monkey.
