Hero Overview

No world shall be beyond my rule, no enemy shall be beyond my wrath.
~ Emperor of Mankind
The universe has many horrors yet to throw at us. This is not the end of our struggle. This is just the beginning of our crusade to save Humanity. Be faithful! Be strong! Be vigilant!
~ Emperor of Mankind

The Emperor of Mankind, also referred to as the God-Emperor of Mankind, is the overarching protagonist of the Warhammer 40,000 franchise. As the most powerful human psyker to ever exist, He is the founder and ruler of the Imperium of Man as well as the deity of the Imperial Cult. His Warhammer Fantasy counterpart is Sigmar Heldenhammer.

Having existed for tens-of-thousands of years, the Emperor has guided mankind since the dawn of their history and has since become their greatest protector and hope against the seemingly limitless threats that threaten them within the galaxy. As such, He has earned the animosity of the Chaos Gods, powerful psychic beings existing in the Immaterium, due to being seen as the embodiment of order and stability as well as His constant efforts to thwart their evil plans. Eventually, the four Gods conspired against Him by corrupting his favored son Horus into rebelling against him, igniting a galaxy-spanning civil war. Although Horus was eventually slain by the Emperor’s hand, the Imperium was left in ruins and the Emperor was fatally wounded; being forced to be confined to the Golden Throne to put Him in suspended animation lest the Imperium permanently lose his guiding hand.

Since then, the Emperor has been reduced to a rotting corpse with a barely-sustainable consciousness, unable to fully interact with or save the Imperium which had succumbed to tyranny and fanaticism upon his death. Despite this, the Emperor is not truly dead, and if not for his unconditional love for humanity, both the galaxy and humanity would've fallen to Chaos, and there's no telling whether or not the galaxy and humanity will truly be saved.

Description[]

Appearance[]

Pre-heresy[]

The Emperor is often depicted as a very tall man, taller than the Space Marines, Custodes or even Primarchs, of Anatolian descent, strongly-built with regal features. He's most commonly depicted wearing the One True Armor, a massive, golden-looking archeotech Power Armour suit, made entirely out of the finest Auramite, which is much stronger than the Ceramite used by the Space Marines' power armors. He's also depicted by Imperium artists with a golden aura right above head, emphasizing his godhood. In truth, the Emperor's appearance is nothing but mere glamour, and he is capable to take any form he desires.

After the heresy[]

Once interned on the throne, the Emperor slowly began to decay physically, losing over time his ability to control his glamour. He's most often depicted as a skeleton or severely decayed corpse, sitting on the Throne, impassible. He appeared as a "pillar of light" to Guilliman during their meeting, "too bright" to be stared at.
