~ The incantation for Enkidu's Noble Phantasm, "Enuma Elish." |
Enkidu, also known as the Chains of Heaven, is a major character in the Japanese science fantasy franchise Fate.
Enkidu was a being created by the ancient gods of Mesopotamian mythology in order to ensnare the King of Uruk, Gilgamesh. However, Enkidu and Gilgamesh instead became best friends. For standing beside the King of Heroes, Enkidu was punished with death by their creator.
Enkidu is voiced by Yū Kobayashi in Japanese and by Marin Miller in English. Kobayashi has also voiced Sasha Braus in Attack on Titan, Dan Kouzo in Bakugan, Charlotte Roselei in Black Clover, Lucina in Fire Emblem, and Zoe Baker in Resident Evil 7: Biohazard.
Roles[]
Enkidu is a posthumous character in the 2006-2007 light novel series Fate/Zero and its 2010-2017 manga series adaptation of the same name, a major character in the 2015 light novel series Fate/strange Fake and its 2015 manga & 2023 anime television series adaptations of the same name, and a playable character in the 2015 turn-based tactical role-playing mobile game Fate/Grand Order.
In Fate/Grand Order: Observer on Timeless Temple, the first part of the story of Fate/Grand Order, Enkidu appears as a posthumous character in its seventh chapter Absolute Demonic Front: Babylonia and a cameo character in its eighth/final chapter The Grand Temple of Time: Solomon. By extension, they appear as a posthumous character in the 2019-2020 anime television series Fate/Grand Order - Absolute Demonic Front: Babylonia and a cameo character in the 2021 anime film Fate/Grand Order: Final Singularity - The Grand Temple of Time: Solomon, which adapt the seventh and eighth chapters respectively.
Appearance[]
As an artificial being made out of the clay of the gods, Enkidu's physical form was mutable. Their preferred form was closely inspired by the appearance of Shamhat, the sacred prostitute that taught Enkidu much about their identity. Said form consisted of a slender, roughly sixteen year old, body with gleaming pale skin and a face so elegant, soft, and otherwise perfect that it made people uncomfortable. They had light-blue eyes and beautiful, straight light-green hair that shimmered and flowed freely down to their lower legs. Though Shamhat was female, Enkidu's body was neither male or female. It lacked the female breasts that the prostitute would've had, and had a fairly androgynous voice.
Powers & Abilities[]
Powers[]
- Heroic Spirit Physiology
- Metamorphosis: Stemming from the tales of Enkidu being a mutable doll, Enkidu was able to manipulate the clay that formed their body into whatever shape or size they desired. There was seemingly no limit to the variation in forms they could assume, whether it were a man, a beast, a child, or even an inanimate object. They could even separate clods of clay from their body and control said segments telekinetically. As a result of their shape-changing, Enkidu had a personal skill imprinted on their Saint Graph called "Transfiguration." Transfiguration allowed them to enhance an aspect of their being, either strength, luck, mana, endurance, or agility, in exchange for weakening one of their other aspects. For example, they could increase their strength in exchange for reducing their speed, or could increase their strength and toughness in exchange for reducing their speed drastically.
- Weapon Creation: One of Enkidu's Noble Phantasms, "Age of Babylon: The Wisdom of the People," consisted of them using clay taken from their body to form any type of weapon (so long as that weapon existed in whatever time period they were summoned into). The conjured weapons emerged from the ground. Whether it was a gun, a halberd, or a sword etc., the weapons created by Enkidu's Noble Phantasm were equal to the pinnacle of human craftsmanship. Because the weapons were formed out of their clay, and were therefore part of their body, Enkidu could control them telekinetically as projectiles. Enkidu could summon thousands of weapons simultaneously, allowing them to instantly overwhelm and decimate any Servant that didn't have a countermeasure. Enkidu could keep up their firepower for however long their reserves of clay lasted, which was several days when they battled Gilgamesh in their legends.
- Nature Channelling: The Heroic Spirit Enkidu had a powerful connection to the planet Earth and all that lived on it. They were capable of channelling the energy of the planet for a variety of purposes, and could communicate with all animals as if they spoke the same language. Enkidu had a skill called "Presence Detection" which allowed them to sense anything and everything within a radius of around ten kilometers by connecting with the planet itself. Because of their Presence Detection, Enkidu was able to automatically detect anomalies such as concentrations of magical energy. Even concealed enemies, including Servants of the Assassin-class, could potentially be detected by Enkidu's skill.
- Regenerative Healing Factor: Enkidu had a personal skill called "Perfect Form" which allowed them to draw upon the energy of the planet in order to replenish the clay that made up their body. So long as the land could provide for them, Enkidu was able to regenerate their form regardless of how much damage they took or how many weapons they created. However, Perfect Form was incapable of rejuvenating Enkidu's soul if it sustained damage.
