Ugh. I wish I was as tall as all of you. I'm Envy! Oh... look at your hair...
~ Envy, complaining about her height, introducing herself, and praising Disgust's hair

Envy is one of the two secondary antagonists (alongside Ennui) of Pixar's 28th full-length animated feature film Inside Out 2, the second installment in the franchise.

As indicated by her name, she is an embodiment of Riley's emotion of envy.

She is voiced by Ayo Edebiri, who also voiced April O'Neil in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem.

Personality[]

Envy, as her name says, is constantly fascinated by anything she finds beautiful, handsome, or desirable that she feels she lacks, such as Disgust's hairstyle, some cool girls Riley eventually meets, and the height and looks of the other emotions. She seems extremely passionate about what she desires and will stand firm for what she desires. She also seems to have a more chaotic side. Her main job is to let Riley know what she wants. This can sometimes conflict with Disgust's own role in Riley's mind, whose impeccable taste serves as a filter for anything Riley doesn't need or is perceived as a threat to, both physically and socially.

Envy is somewhat dramatic and easily carried away by things – showing her passionate and curious side. Although envious, it is by no means a grudge.

Appearance[]

Envy is a pretty small emotion compared to the rest of the emotions, symbolizing inferiority when comparing to others, both new and old. She has aquamarine skin, a petite body, and a head larger than her body. She has teal neck-length hair with a few unruly strands tied into two purple clips. She has large, round aquamarine eyes that always fill with a sparkle when she lusts after what others have. She also has freckles in the middle of her eyes and wears pink blush on her cheeks. Her wardrobe consists of a long-sleeved purple dress with a purple collar and white polka dots, bright purple leggings, and teal boots.

Biography[]

Inside Out 2[]

Envy first appears trying to climb onto the console due to her height, which she softly complains about. As she introduces herself to the other emotions, she first admired Disgust's hairstyle, and later Val's.

Trivia[]

  • Before the film's release, many thought she would be a villain because envy is one of the seven deadly sins.
  • Ironically, despite her emotional personification, Envy herself is portrayed as having a very adoring attitude (even with her longing reactions) instead of being expectedly embittered. This is because in the religious context, the opposite of envy is kindness, one of the seven heavenly virtues.
    • What's even more ironic, Envy is the second emotion to represent a deadly sin (after Anger, otherwise known as Wrath).
  • Envy has since taken Anger's position as being the shortest among all of Riley's emotions in terms of height.
