The story of Eren Yeager from Attack on Titan.

Beginnings[]

Eren Yeager was born in the year March 30, 835 to Grisha Yeager and Carla Yeager. At some point during his childhood, Eren met and befriended Armin Arlert, and by 842 the two would share a dream of exploring the outside world.

Year 844: Meeting Mikasa Ackerman[]

A year prior to the events of the story, accompanying his father Grisha to meet Mikasa Ackerman's parents, Eren saves Mikasa from being sold by human traffickers. He helps her in dispatching the kidnappers, three men which were the killers of her parents, were in a house. Killing two of them, he was caught off guard by the third who proceeded to strangle him. With superhuman strength, Mikasa leapt forward at the man after realizing that it is a "live or die" situation and she needed to fight in order to live. This incident helped Eren develop his ideology at a young age. As Eren's father finds them surprisingly safe and unharmed, Eren gave Mikasa the scarf she always wears, and declared her a part of his family.

Year 845 to 850: A Tragic Loss[]

Young Eren and Mikasa

Eren Yeager is introduced as a ten-year-old residing in the town of Shiganshina who dreams of joining the Survey Corps in order to explore the outside world beyond the walls. Eren remarks that the life humans live is controlled entirely at the mercy of the titans and humans are nothing more than cattle.

With the invasion of Wall Maria after the Colossal Titan makes a path, Eren discovered the horrors of the life he is living that sets the motion for his future. Seeing the destruction of his town, mindless titans slaughtering humans, and his own mother being eaten alive as he was helpless to save her. After being dragged away by a local Stationary Guard, Hannes, Eren swears to kill every single titan in existence with tears of frustration and hatred.

After the fall of Wall Maria, Eren, Mikasa and Armin briefly stayed in the "landfill" working on a farm before reaching the proper age to enroll in the military. Here they spent approximately four years in training, Eren placed fifth in his class upon graduation.

Year 850: Joining the Survey Corps[]

Eren Yeager

Upon graduation, before Eren is able to formally apply for a position in the Scouting Legion, the Colossal Titan appeared at Trost, the same as it did the day of the fall of wall Maria. Eren attempts to destroy it, but it vanishes in a puff of smoke after having broken the gate open.

In response to the crisis, the new recruits are scrambled and split into squads in charge of spreading to and defending different parts of the city. Eren is grouped with Armin. Upon seeing his comrades killed, Eren leaps into battle after a Titan, only to have his leg bitten off below the knee, incapacitating him. The rest of his group attacks and dies as a result. Just as Armin is about to get eaten, Eren manages to pull his friend out of the bearded Titan's mouth, effectively switching places with him. Eren is swallowed, his left arm being severed as the titan shut its mouth. It is later revealed that in the stomach of the bearded Titan, Eren's desperation and drive to exterminate all Titans triggered his first transformation into a Titan, bursting from the bearded Titan and proceeding to wreak havoc on all the Titans he could get his hands on. In the process he unawarely saves the mourning Mikasa’s life and is baited by a team of his classmates to help fend off a procession of Titans from a storage headquarters for the compressed gas used to power their 3D movement gear.

Eren arrives at Trost's military headquarters, unawarely saving Jean, and continues his rampage while giving a chance to the Trainees to kill the smaller Titans who managed to enter inside the building and reached the supply room. After the soldiers succeed in eliminating the Titans, they fill their ODM gear's gas tanks and immediately leave to regroup with the rest of the troops in the inner Wall Rose. Only Mikasa, Armin, Jean, Reiner, Bertholdt, and Annie stay behind to argue about what to do with Eren's Titan, then they observe Eren as he is being overwhelmed by Pure Titans. When he sees the Titan that killed Thomas, Eren is filled with rage, frees himself, and kills the Titan by using his jaw, shocking his fellow Cadets. After killing the Titan he falls as he run out of energy, then emerges from the Titan's nape, shocking the onlookers, as well as the Garrison troops with Captain Kitz Woermann and Rico Brzenska observing from atop the Wall. Eren is retrieved by Mikasa who cries tears of joy, but the rest are shocked by this turn of events as Armin sees that Eren has recovered his limbs he breaks down in tears as well. Eren's friends carry him to the inner wall, but are intercepted by Captain Woermann's troops, who forbid them to speak about what they saw to the other soldiers, while Mikasa and Armin stay with Eren and Woermann.

A plan is made for Eren to use his Titan form to move a huge boulder they had planned to use to reseal the gate to prevent titans from further entering, but were unable to move it. Eren is assigned to a team including Mikasa to defend him while he carries the boulder. Upon his transformation to execute the plan, though, he attacks Mikasa, who tries to communicate with him to snap out of it, unsuccessfully. Eren ends up wounding himself and his body fails to regenerate, the mission is declared a failure. Despite this, the leader of the group, with some non-verbal convincing by Mikasa, decides they must stay and guard Eren. Armin arrives on the scene and convinces Mikasa to go help fend off the Titans while he tries to get through to Eren. Eventually he is able to do so, and Eren moves the stone and is able to plug the hole in the wall at the sacrifice of the rest of the team members (with the exception of Rico, Armin and Mikasa). They are saved from the desperate situation after Eren's transformation back to human by Levi.

Eren again woke up, this time in a dungeon prison cell chained. Levi was there and upon hearing his motive to kill Titans says he'll accept him on the team. Eren was left there for a time before he was escorted by Scouting Legion members to the court room where he was tried with one side calling for his decision and execution and the opposing side, the Scouting Legion, arguing to use his power to their advantage in scouting missions. After an outburst by Eren, Levi beats him accrediting his dominance over Eren’s threat and it is decided his fate will be decided after a “test” mission with the Scouting Legion.

Eren, along with some of his old classmates who also joined the Scouting Legion, train for a month, learning long distance communication formation, before they had to depart outside Wall Rose to the ruin in the region once protected by Wall Maria. Eren along with most of the group were not told the goal of the operation but were simply expected to follow orders. Eventually, a deviant "intelligent" titan known as the "Female Titan" caught up with Eren’s team and pursued them into a huge forest. Upon it’s closer approach and the death of some comrades from behind as Eren and his team simply keep running, Eren is tempted to use his Titan power and save his comrades and fight the Female Titan. Levi allows this choice, but Eren eventually decides to trust in his team, sacrificing the last remaining member of the rear guard. The Female Titan, suspected to be the same as Eren and merely a "human in titan skin", nearly captured Eren before being ambushed and captured herself. Eren and the rest of his team excluding Levi ride out of the forest firm in the belief that the titan was captured and her human self apprehended. This is proved false as the unidentifiable human form of the Female Titan kills one of the team members before re-transforming into a titan. The remaining three team members tell Eren to go on while they kill the Female Titan. Eren wishes to stay and fight with them, but again, is convinced otherwise and retreats. The three are promptly slaughtered and a regretful Eren transformed into a Titan and engaged the Female Titan.

He ultimately loses the fight and his human self was captured by the Female Titan. Mikasa arrived on the scene in time to observe this and pursued to retrieve him, closely followed by Levi. The two teamed up to retrieve Eren, leaving the Female Titan alive and whilst they departed back to wall Rose, the mission failed and many soldiers lost. Eren is shocked when Annie Leonhardt smiled the same way the Female Titan did when she unhooded Armin. Eren is later realises that Annie is the female titan. When he tried to go into Titan form by injuring himself, he couldn't do it because of his shock and his mind was clouded. Going back to a meeting room, Eren apologized to Levi for disobeying orders to fight off the Female Titan. If he hadn't done so, they wouldn't gotten in the predicament they're in. When Mikasa and Armin prepare themselves to take on Annie by themselves, Eren eventually overcame his shock and transformed into his titan form and helps capturing her.

When Wall Rose is supposedly breached, Eren is one of the teams in the area. He was last seen on his way to Castle Utgard under squad leader Hanji Zoe in order to use it as surveillance building. Eren and the rest of the the Scouts arrive just in time to save Reiner and co, Eren kills a 7m type female titan and celebrates his first kill as a Scout. On their way back home, Reiner starts acting weird around Eren and Eren starts to panic. It is then that Mikasa realizes who Reiner and Bertholdt are and proceeds to try and kill them. Reiner transforms into the Armored Titan and kidnaps Eren. Eren calls Reiner "A fucking traitor" and shifts into his Titan form. He and Reiner then engage in battle at first Reiner had the advantage, but Eren using his martial skills was able to pin Reiner and was ripping Reiner's neck off. Berthold proceeds to body slam both Eren and Reiner. In the midst of the chaos Eren is kidnapped. Eren and Ymir are taken to the Forest of Giant Trees by Reiner and Berthold. He attempts to transform into his titan form in spite of losing his arms, but Ymir wisely tells him not to as she too is also healing from losing both her arms. While she questions Reiner and Berthold about the Ape Titan they're after, Eren broods in silence as Reiner reveals that Humanity has no hope in fighting against the titans. He and Berthold offer both him and Ymir a chance to join them in order to protect their loved ones. As she considers joining them, Eren furiously refuses and blames both Reiner and Berthold for causing him a lot of grief. He trusted them and they betrayed his trust by breaching his home and killing his mother. When he discovers that Ymir is considering joining Reiner and Berhold, Eren tried vainly to talk her out of it.

Later, when the Survey Corps come to rescue Eren and Ymir, Eren and his allies are surrounded by a swarm of Titans. The Titan who killed Eren's mother appears and devours Hannes, who was trying to protect Eren and Mikasa to make up for running away at the day Eren's mother was eaten. Upon seeing his friend die before his eyes, Eren griefs and screams in despair and considers himself useless as he was unable to do anything to stop it. As it seems to be the end for them, Mikasa confesses her feelings and thanks Eren for saving her at their first encounter and for always being beside her. Moved by her words, Eren stands again and swears that he will continue to protect her. He then awakens a power known as the "Founding Titan" (始祖の巨人, Shiso no Kyojin), which he subconsciously uses to control a group of Titans to attack the Titan who ate his mother, and later to attack Reiner and Berthold while he, Mikasa, and the rest of his allies escaped the battle.

Soon after, Eren is sent with his friends to an isolated village while preparations are made for a campaign to retake Wall Maria. Eren is then captured by Rod Reiss, who reveals the Founding was originally in his family for years since their ancestor Karl Fritz created the walls, and that the Reiss family used it to rule until it was stolen by Grisha. Grisha is revealed to be responsible for Eren becoming a Titan and was eaten by his son in the past unconsciously. Eren's classmate Krista Lenz, who is actually Rod's child Historia, refuses to aid her father and frees Eren. Eren and the Survey Corps depart to Shiganshina to reclaim Wall Maria by and defeat an army of Titans led by Zeke, the Beast Titan, and his subordinates Bertolt and Reiner. With Shiganshina secured, Eren and his friends learn of Grisha's past: Zeke is revealed to be Eren's half brother and Grisha's first son, and they are revealed to live in another nation named Marley. They learn that humanity exists beyond the walls and that their true enemy is Marley, while they live on an island called Paradis Island, and are a race called Eldians, descendants of the original titan shifter Ymir. Eren learns that he has a limited lifespan as a side effect of being a holder of one of the Nine Titans' power, the "Attack Titan" (進撃の巨人, Shingeki no Kyojin).

Year 851 to 857: A Plan[]

From 851 to 853, Eren and his comrades fend off Marleyan survey ships with the help of the deserters known as Anti-Marleyan Volunteers and Armin's Colossal Titan. The Volunteers, led by Zeke Yeager and Yelena, help the Eldian military to bring some technological development on the island, and in 852 thanks to Zeke manage to arrange a meeting for an alliance between Paradis and the eastern nation of Hizuru. Eren is not happy with Zeke's plan, as it requires to pass the burden of the Titans to future generation and sacrifice Historia's future.

In 853, Eren is part of Hange's team who travel in Marley to learn about the outside world and try to achieve peace. They are guided by Onyankopon and take residence in an estate owned by Kiyomi Azumabito in Marley's biggest trading port city. After failing to estabilish an alliance with the political Association to Protect the Subjects of Ymir, Eren abandons the Survey Corps and follows his half-brother Zeke's plan to provoke the world to fight against Paradis. He assumes the identity of "Mr. Kruger", enlists the Marleyan military as a soldier of the Eldian Unit, and is put in a train to join the Marley Mid-East War, which is presumed to end in a few months. On the battlefield, he amputates his own leg and stabs his own eye and pretends to be a wounded soldier with PTSD.

In 854, after Marley wins the war against the Mid-East Allied Forces, the Marleyan Eldian soldiers are brought back to Liberio. As an infiltrator, Eren is put in a hospital in the Liberio internment zone, which is owned by his paternal grandfather, Grisha's father. During his staying as a patient for a month, Eren finally meets Zeke in person a few times and befriends Falco, using the latter to inform the Survey Corps in the other port city that he is in Liberio's internment zone and that he and Zeke are planning to start the fighting by attacking there.

During the festival held by Willy Tybur to declare war on Paradis Island and convince all the world's major nations to join Marley's cause, Eren responds with an attack that Zeke had prepared, killing Willy and then devouring his sister Lara to gain the War Hammer Titan's power, also forcing Armin to destroy the city's military ports to prevent an immediate retaliating counterattack and buy more time for Paradis. Zeke feigns his death and joins the Survey Corps in their escape. Eren's actions result in his arrest but he escapes with a group of deserters of Eldian military loyal to him, who are later labelled by the loyalists as "Yeagerists".

Eren makes himself known to Armin and Mikasa, showing antagonism for his friends, and is ambushed by a group of soldiers led by Reiner. Eren attempts to reach Zeke to activate the Founding Titan's power, but is nearly killed by Gabi; Zeke saves his brother but turns out to be the one that has control over Ymir as she is bound in servitude to members of the royal family. Eren convinces Ymir to help him after giving her the choice to make her own decision. Revived, Eren frees the Titans within the Walls with the intention of exterminating all life outside Paradis in order to protect his people, becoming the world's enemy. However it's later revealed that Eren intentionally centered all of the world's hatred and aggression onto him, so that when his former comrades finally manage to kill him, and the Survey Corps and Warriors of Marley will be revered as heroes, while the power of the Titans dies with Eren.

Eren reveals his true reasoning and motivations to Armin and admits he didn't want to go through with his plan but the power of the Attack and Founding Titans caused his sense of reasoning to become incoherent and act more in tune with the flow of future events. He says that time for him happens all at once he had no choice but to make sure history went its natural course. Eren tearfully and sorrowfully reveals all of this to Armin before their final fight along with the fact that he was the one who saved Bertolt from being consumed by Dina Fritz's Pure Titan and sent her to kill Eren's mother Carla because history already unfolded that way and he couldn't change it. Armin is horrified that Eren was committed matricide after he already ate his own father to gain his powers. When Armin questions whether Eren's true plan will succeed and the world won't retaliate. Eren believes the world will be very unlikely to launch a counterattack so soon, since the Rumbling has already killed 80% of the world population. Eren then reveals that he's always been in love with Mikasa and that the only reason he distanced himself from her and the others was to make it easier for them to kill him. He also reveals that he doesn't want to die and feels guilt over the atrocities he committed, but knew he couldn't be forgiven for slaughtering 80% of the world's population.

Despite Eren's assumption that the world could not fight Paradis back for a long time, aircraft development is still ongoing, as in the epilogue one airplane is shown in Marley in 857, showing a danger of an offensive from the sky against Paradis, who lack the means and knowledge to take down airplanes and airships. However, the leaders of the Global Alliance are not planning another attack, and instead send the former members of the Warrior Unit and Survey Corps to represent Marley and the other Allied Nations and negotiate for peace with Paradis' new government.

While the world sees the Survey Corps as heroes and certain individuals such as Secretary Muller blame the world's governments for the Rumbling, it is unknown how the majority of the the population feels about the people of Paradis, as the trauma and losses suffered from the Rumbling are permanent scars, bound to create more anger and desire to take it one someone to blame. Also, Historia's letter cites that it is generally believed that the conflict will not end until either Eldia or the rest of humanity will be wiped out, and the new government of Paradis fears the world's incoming retaliation. Nonetheless, Armin wants to keep hoping and believing that true peace might be reached.

Around Hundred of years later in extra page of manga ending (Thousand years in anime ending), another conflict results with the complete destruction of Paradis Island, but it is unknown if one of its causes is past mutual resentment between nations from Eren's actions, or which nations are involved in it, only showing that no country can be fully saved forever.
