Eustace Winner, (Japanese: Yumihiko Ichiyanagi), is one of the two tritagonists (alongside Eddie Fender) in the 2011 visual novel Ace Attorney Investigations 2: Prosecutor's Gambit, the second installment of the Investigations duology within the Ace Attorney franchise.
He is a rookie prosecutor who was assigned to take over Miles Edgeworth investigations by the Committee for Prosecutorial Excellence and his father Excelsius Winner. Despite graduating, he is still considered incompetent by others due to his faulty logic. As his investigation goes on he starts to become more competent and later reforms his ways of becoming a prosecutor.
He is voiced by Naotaka Noda(JP), Endigo(ENG) and SonicShadows(ENG fandub).
History[]
Early Life[]
Eustace Winner's status as a prosecutor was elevated by his father Excelsius Winner, the one who would frequently orally abuse him. His mom "vanished", and because Excelsius commonly "vanished" people whom he considered a threat, it is likely that he killed her. Eustace attended Themis Legal Academy, where he took the prosecutorial course. He received many awards and was deemed worthy of being the valedictorian, winning him a distinguished red coat. However, unbeknownst to Eustace, all of these achievements were only on account of the influence and manipulations of his father.
Eustace's "shining logic"[]
Eustace's assumed bravery was directly tested when Excelsius made him the head investigator of the investigation into Bronco Knight's murder at the local confinement, followed by Judge and Committee for Prosecutorial Excellence member Verity Gavèlle. They checked the whole jail for the murder weapon to no avail. Despite taking over the case from Miles Edgeworth, Eustace had trouble following the analyses of the case, developing into arguments between the two. Nonetheless, Edgeworth revealed the murder weapon and accused Fifi Laguarde as Knight's murderer.
Eustace and Gavèlle were sent to Samson Tangaroa's mansion a few days later, which had had an attempted murder by the method of poisonous gas. Three days later, P.I.C. member Rosie Ringer was established dead in the P.I.C. office meeting space at the Bigg Building. Excelsius proposed to arrest Kay Faraday for the murder, but Edgeworth challenged him, even gladly retiring his prosecutor's medal to escape the influence that Excelsius had over him as chairman of the P.I.C. Completely humbled, Eustace left the office meeting space crying. Excelsius was later jailed for the murder.
