Ezekiel "Zeke" Banks is the main protagonist of the 2021 horror film Spiral: From the Book of Saw, the ninth installment of the Saw franchise.
He was portrayed by Chris Rock, who also voices Marty in the Madagascar franchise and Kurt in the Grown Ups film series.
Biography[]
Ezekiel has been working as a police officer like his father Marcus Banks. Earlier on he turned in a police officer which would have be considered as a "rat" for some of the Police Officers as a backfire. He is assigned to work with William Schenk as a police officer partner in training to solve varying cases regarding The Spiral Killer alongside how is father was kidnapped by The Spiral Killer himself.
Eventually he tries to save all of the test subjects from The Spiral Killer and failed at trying to save them, leading to him being merely tested when being kidnapped and chained to a pipe having the option to saw his own arm chained on the pipe but choosing not to as he would consider to use a loose bobby pin instead unlocking the chain. He finds his father strapped to chains of Spiral Targets and The Spiral Killer reveals himself to be none other than William Schenk.
Schenk and Marcus talk about a police brutality that has taken place earlier on that leaves Ezekiel with a lot to take in while mostly trying to make sure to capture William Schenk. He however gives the option to for Zeke to capture him or save his father, as well as even convincing Zeke to join him with his Saw traps. He shoots down merely just only one of the Spiral targets which would get Zeke's father down just for a few moments. And Zeke would beat up and knock down William.
The Saw proceeds to show up as the last Spiral Trap William made reveals itself to be a device to pull Marcus up like originally when locked in the chains forcibly going up as a SWAT team who drilled through a wall and got in was going to intervene. The SWAT team points the guns towards Zeke telling him to get down as Zeke was trying to talk to the team as they were looking around the location Zeke was in to see what had happened. Its revealed that this trap was made to make Marcus look like he was a random person with a gun about to shoot leading the SWAT team to take down Marcus killing him, in turn leading to Zeke crying out of distraught seeing his own father die. William eventually leaves for an elevator with Zeke crying as William leaves smiling.
Personality[]
He could be humorous throughout the movie. But takes his devotion as a cop very seriously alongside murder. He is seen to be emotionally distraught from the aftermath of some of the Police Officers who were punished by The Spiral Killer and didn't have as much of any sympathetic attributes. He can be very strategic with trying to get out of the shackle to the pipe trap with using the loose bobby pin.
However, he does have a difficult time trying to save some of his colleagues from traps that would kill them and merely him when trying to save him giving him and underwhelming amount of time to try to save almost any of them, with the exception of his father by having the option to shoot the Spiral Targets and just choosing to shoot only one when it looked like Marcus was unchained from the trap only to eventually backfire when using the time trying to beat up his colleague William until the SWAT showed up. Getting overwhelmed enough to want to try to talk to the Police Officers about the trap and what it could do, but being pointed at with guns being told to stay on the ground choosing to do so. He cares for his father as he cried for his father as Marcus was shot at by the SWAT due to a The Spiral Trap made just to post Marcus as an armed suspect about to shoot.
Trivia[]
- He is one of the main protagonists as a cop to actually have heroical aspects as opposed to other protagonists from the Saw Franchise that were mostly Fallen Heroes or outright villains or Anti-Villains instead.
- Also he really cared about doing the right thing more than anything making him a Lawful Good, similary to Daniel Rigg.
- He is one of the secondary characters to be the type to have a father who works with the first responders like with Daniel Matthews and his father who is Eric Matthews, except Daniel Matthews was not a cop and he was a kid who likely or not did petty crimes to get back at his father Daniel Matthews for how he was like as a Police Officer .
