King Ezran is one of the three main protagonists (alongside Callum and Rayla) of the 2018 animated Netflix fantasy series, The Dragon Prince.
The son of the deceased King Harrow, he is the current king of Katolis and the half-brother of Callum, who serves as his High Mage. He's also the best friend of Azymondias.
He is voiced by Sasha Rojen, who voiced a young Iris West-Allen in the CW's The Flash.
Personality[]
Just like his father, Ezran is very compassionate and pacifistic. Corvus states that Ezran showed more kindness as king than most did. Due to his outcast nature in his youth, Ezran tends to hang out with animals. To him, seeing things from their point of view is very easy.
Ezran's pacifist nature once strained his relationship with Prince Kasef, who declared that Ezran defied his pacifist ways to save Katolis. While Ezran initially was shocked by Callum and Rayla kissing, he helps Callum in his relationship with Rayla, and even comforts Callum that Rayla still loves him during his birthday because Rayla left Callum to go after Viren a year back.
Ezran also admits that the pain he had felt could be turned into anger and cause violence, but he refused to use it, and instead kept the pain in his heart while also keeping love and kindness in him so he could have peace and forgive others. He also wishes to give a future generation peace and create an era of it.
Ezran also is not afraid to raise his voice to others who hurt people, such as ordering N'than to release Azymondias when he held him hostage, and angrily telling Rex Igneous about Avizandum's death when the former started taunting Azymondias over how much he thought his father was a coward.
Despite this, Ezran is very quick to forgive others, as he accepted N'than in Team Zym after he refused to kill Azymondias and tried to stop Rex from destroying his cave, reasoning with him despite Rex accusing Team Zym of trying to hurt him.
Physical Appearance[]
Ezran has brown skin with wide, light-blue eyes. His hair is cut into a dark-brown afro-shape. His outfit is a long-sleeved red shirt with golden accents, a dark brown belt, dark brown trousers, and dark grey and brown boots. His king outfit includes a dark red robe in addition to the crown worn by his father, and later a metal crown made of the sword made of his father's sword.

Background[]
Ezran was born as the second son of King Harrow and Sarai and became the crown prince of the kingdom of Katolis. He grew up alongside his Half-brother Callum and despite being born to different fathers, Callum and Ezran were very close. They grew up alongside Claudia and Soren, the children of High Mage Viren. Being the only biological son of King Harrow, Ezran was next in line for the throne. Ezran also has a pet glow toad named Bait, whom he treated very well and was like a best friend to him.
Book 1: Moon[]
Ezran lost his father to a group of Moon Shadow assassins and he found out that the Dragon Prince's egg wasn't destroyed, so he, Callum, and the Moon Shadow elf Rayla decided to go on an adventure to bring the egg back to its mother.
Book 2: Sky[]
Ezran would help people and risk his life during the adventure with Rayla, Callum, and Azymondias throughout their journey. After being betrayed by Claudia and Soren, the Team had to flee. After learning the true circumstances of his father's death from Corvus and Rayla, Katolis needed him, so Ezran left the group, deciding to take his place as the next king. However, on their way to the castle, Ezran had a vision that Callum,R ayla and Zym werei n trouble so he used his bond with Zym and helped him fly to the archway so he could block out the sun and Rayla and Callum could make it across the lava river by using a moon path made by elves.
Book 3[]
Ezran became the King of Katolis but struggled to live up to his father's name. Things became more complex when he learned that Xadia committed successful assassination attempts on the human leaders of the kingdoms and had to pass judgment on Soren and Claudia, whose father was arrested for treason. However, he decided to release them because no child should pay for their father's sins. Despite Opeli advising him to choose a Regent until Ezran came of age, he embraced his role as the crew King by taking up his father's crown.
Prince Kasef tried to convince Ezran to help him in his attack on Xadia with the rest of humanity's kingdoms. However, Ezran refused, so Kasef threatened to attack Katolis if he didn't do what he asked. Ezran, not wanting people to die, decided to allow Viren to take his place and made an order that every soldier who didn't want to fight in the war to leave and go to their homes and families.
Ezran then be imprisoned by Viren, but Soren and several of Ezran's allies rescue him and give him the chance to go to Callum and Rayla so they can get Azymondias to his mother and stop Viren from continuing his attack on Xadia and create an era of peace. After reuniting with Callum, Zym and Rayla, the group came to the Storm Spire and learned that Queen Zubeia has entered a deep sleep that not even Ezran could wake her from. However, they needed more help after Soren came to the spire to warn them that Viren was coming for Zym with an army. Ezran brought a group of dragons during the battle between Viren's army and his allies.
Unfortunately, when Ezran had the dragons fire upon Claudia and Viren's armies, it only made their lava-powered soldiers stronger. However, Ezran helped in stopping the dark mages of their plan. With the battle finished, Ezran noticed Claudia was leaving annd suddenly came across who they believed was Viren. Soren saw his "father and had no choice but to kill him when Viren attempted to kill Ezran. As the boy comforts his friend, Claudia reveals that the battle was just a distraction and the real battle was up on the spire. Ezran realized that Zym was still in danger and Viren was coming after him. Fortunately, Rayla managed to stop him by tackling on top of Viren and Callum rescuing her. After the battle, Ezran reunites with Ezran, Rayla and Zym and they go to Queen Zubeia's room. The dragon queen wakes and is reunited with her son. As she looks down at Team Zym, she is surpised to see humans and elves came together to return her child. This establish peace between humans, elves, and dragons.
Through the Moon[]
Ezran would go to the Moon Nexus make sure that Phoe-Phoe was reborn, and spend the first few weeks after she was reborn taking care and having fun with her.
When Callum is trying to save Rayla when she is stuck on a bridge between life and death, Ezran gives Callum one of Phoe-Phoe's feathers so Callum can go through the bridge and save Rayla, which he does, and the two kiss each other after escaping from the bridge, with Ezran happy in the background alongside Lujanne, Allen, and Soren. Ezran would then comfort Callum after he read the message Rayla gave him during his fifteenth birthday before she left him to stop Viren.
One day, Ezran, Zym, and Bait sit in the former's bed to eat jelly tarts, but see the sword of his father, and feel sad about him being dead and that his sword represents the crimes he committed and the blood he spilled. Zym and Bait comfort Ezran and tell him that maybe the sword can represent things other than violence, he agrees and asks a metalsmith to turn the sword into a crown so it can be used during his coronation to still be with his father deep down. Ezran would later become the king of Katolis again during the span of two years between Seasons 3 and 4.
Ezran would also turn Corvus into a member of the Crownguard with the help of Soren. During Callum's 17th birthday, he would request a reunion with all the other members of the council of Katolis, where Barius would become a member and accept his title as Minister of Crusts and Jellies. Ezran would also tell them that Zubeia was coming, and while everyone was worried about that since they believed that the people would fear the Dragon Queen, and while Ezran agreed that people would likely fear her, he told them that if others saw Zubeia and saw her for her kind personality, it would be one step to strengthen the peace between Xadia and the Human Kingdoms.
Book 4[]
Ezran then makes a birthday surprise party for Callum, where after they sing the Katolis' birthday song to him, Ezran notices that Callum isn't at the party but instead on the balcony, causing Ezran to try to talk to Callum, and when Callum tells Ezran that it wasn't really his birthday anymore due to Rayla leaving him the year before and Callum started to question whether or not Rayla was alive, Ezran comforted Callum, saying that she was still alive and still loved him.
The next day, Ezran would make a ceremony for Zubeia's arrival, and Opeli told him that the idea that the Dragon Queen would be in a place where several great people are buried and were killed because of dragons could be seen as disrespectful, but Ezran told her that he was bringing her there because of the people that died because of dragons since he believed that it would represent that the history between humans and dragons didn't stop peace from happening.
Zubeia and Zym would appear, with Ezran trying to entertain her by having Soren do jokes and giving Zubeia a large jelly tart. That night, they would go to the beach where his parents' statues that were made in their memory were and tried to show Zubeia a picture of Ezran, Zym, and Zubeia, but the face of Zubeia in the picture was destroyed by someone.
Ezran then had a speech on how even with peace, people are angry because of the pain they felt from loss just like he was, and said that even though they wanted peace, violence tested them, and that the pain they felt was so terrible that they want to hate and hurt someone else. He also notes that the cycle of violence is always the same, violence, loss, and pain, and it repeats again and again, but he still told them that they needed to keep the ideals of peace inside of them no matter what, and keep the pain inside but still believe that they could forgive and love again, and hope for a chance that the children could grow to live a life where peace exists.
Zubeia then complimented Ezran's kindness and how he made her pain lessen because of his speech. He would also hug Rayla after this, happy to see her again. He also sees Ibis' final message about Aaravos's return and tells Zubeia to stay in Katolis because she could get in danger if she goes to the Storm Spire, although she refuses because Aaravos is too dangerous to not be dealt with as quickly as possible.
Ezran would then bring Zym to his mother and he, Zym, and Rayla would go to the Storm Spire with Zubeia alongside Callum and Soren. During this, Ezran asks about Aaravos, with Zubeia telling him Aaravos's story and how he had manipulated others for a millennium.
After getting to the Storm Spire, they find Ibis' body, They make a small ceremony for him and turn his body into birds before trying to analyze Aaravos' mirror, but Aaravos possesses Callum. While possessing Callum, Aaravos would taunt the members of Team Zym, calling them pathetic children, with Ezran in particular he called whining in over his head. Aaravos then destroyed the mirror.
Zubeia then decided to go to Umber Tor so they could find the archdragon Rex Igneous since Rex knew where Aaravos was. However, Zubeia was unable to get into Umber Tor, as the only way into it was too small for her, so she wished good luck to Team Zym and left for the Storm Spire. While they got into the mountain, they found a group of Earthblood Elves named Drakeriders who hunted dragons, so they decided to stay away from them so they wouldn't get in trouble.
Rayla and Soren would go on a search, with Soren getting caught by the Drakeriders, but Rayla believed he was fine. During this, Ezran would try to comfort Callum over his relationship with Rayla. The next day, Zym appeared, disobeying his mother since Zubeia deliberately told him to stay in the Storm Spire.
Team Zym would then go to find Soren, but during this, a group of Drakeriders find Zym and try to capture him, but they are able to defeat the leader by working together. They would then see Zym held by a child named N'than, but he refused to kill Zym despite the Drakeriders trying to teach him to beat and kill dragons.
Nathan then decided to help them go to meet Rex Igneous, and they had to go through a cave full of crystals and pass through a room filled with creatures who killed and destroyed anything that had light, but after this, they found Rex in his cave.
Before they meet Rex, they find out that Rex and Zym' father Avizandum are rivals, so Callum makes an illusion and turns Zym into a dog so he won't get in trouble with Rex. When they met Rex, he originally disliked the gifts he gave them and planned to kill Team Zym, but Ezran gave him a brown sludge tart Barius made for him, which Rex liked and caused him to allow them to ask him one question, and they asked him where Aaravos was, but Rex laughed about why he would even tell them where the most dangerous being in the world was.
Ezran told Rex that Zubeia sent them, but Rex started asking why she would ask him for help and not her mate Avizandum and started mocking Avizandum, causing Zym to attack Rex in a fit of rage, Zym accidentally revealed himself and broke the illusion, so Rex started taunting Zym over how much he thought his father was a coward for sending his son to him rather than going to him by himself.
Ezran then told Rex that Avizandum was dead and was killed by Viren, causing him to decide to help them since Avizandum used to be his friend before they became rivals by telling them of the map he had in one of his tooth. However, Claudia appeared with Terry, and also Soren who was tied up, and put them sleeping with a spell.
They were then awakened by Rex who was awoken by Rayla stabbing him in his left paw, despite the cave starting to collapse, Ezran still tried to convince him to calm down, only for Rex to accuse them of trying to hurt him, so he attempts to kill them. However, they were able to escape and Zubeia saved them from Rex by forcing him to go back to his cave, and Team Zym would hug each other over being alive.
Book 5: Ocean[]
Later, Ezran would go back to the Storm Spire with Soren, Zubeia, and Zym, but not before going to Katolis to bring Corvus as well. There, they would go to Arcus Vault, a place located inside of the Storm Spire. After getting to it, Ezran found a shadowhawk, which contained the message of Ezran's father's death. Ezran would drop it and the group would go to find Siren Stone, which they wanted to get so they could meet Domina Profundis.
After getting to the stone, Pyrrah told Ezran about how Domina used to be best friends with Zubeia, but after the death of the Empress of the Deep, a loyal friend of Domina, she isolated herself from the world and decided to guard the ocean. While Soren and Corvus were grabbing the stone, Ezran went back to the shadow hawk, which he stomped on until it broke.
Later, Ezran and the rest of the group went to meet Domina Profundis, and while she initially refused to listen to them, after Zubeia defended Ezran, she decided to listen to what he had to say, and after Ezran told her about how Viren and Claudia were trying to free Aaravos, Domina told him about the archmage Akiyu, a tidebound elf who knew about the location of Aaravos' prison.
After this, the group would rescue Callum, and Rayla from a group of corrupted banthers at the Bookery of Lux Aurea. During this, Amaya got surrounded by the banthers, and although they tried to go save her, Amaya told them to leave. While they were trying to escape from the Bookery, a banther bit Zubeia, leading to Corvus pushing the banther and accidentally causing himself to fall off the dragon.
However, when it seemed Amaya and Corvus were going to die, they decided to hide in the book drop, protecting themselves from the banthers. The next day, Ezran would tell Rayla about Archmage Akiyu, but Callum would also tell him about the Novablade, a weapon that might be capable of killing Aaravos. Ezran disagreed as he thought the weapon should only be used as a last resort and that they should go find Akiyu.
Rayla was given the choice of which plan to vote for to end the tie, and she decided to go after Akiyu first. Zubeia then brought Team Zym to the tidepools where Akiyu lived, before returning to the Storm Spire. In the tidepools, the group gets surrounded by giant carrion gulls but ends up being saved by a tidebound elf who calls herself Tidebound Tina. They would then ask if she knew Akiyu, which she confirmed and used a shell to make it look like she was talking to Akiyu.
She would then tell them that "Akiyu" didn't want to see them, but despite her warnings, Team Zym decided to go meet her anyway. Understanding she couldn't convince them to turn back, Tina tricked them (with the exception of Soren) into entering the mouth of a giant monster, although they are able to escape thanks to Zym electrocuting its stomach and forcing it to them out.
After surviving the monster, Callum realizes that Tina is Akiyu, who then tells them that the reason she tried to kill Team Zym and hide the location of Aaravos' prison is that she once made a promise to a human mage called The Jailer that she would die before telling anyone the location of the prison. Akiyu then drank a liquid from a vile, which Ezran believed was poison, but it was revealed to just be just a juice she often drank.
Akiyu then told them about the location of Aaravos' prison at the Sea of the Castout and gave Callum an amulet so he could breathe underwater to get to the prison's location, before ordering the group to leave. They then waited for Zubeia to return so she could bring them to the location of Aaravos' prison, but due to her being infected by the corruption of the Sunforge after being bit by a corrupted banther, she was unable to come get them.
Understanding Zubeia wouldn't appear, Rayla decided to go to Scumport with the rest of Team Zym so they could find a boat for them to get to the Sea of the Castput. There, they notice the ship of the leader of Scumport Finnegrin, with Ezran and Callum, deciding to go meet him so they could make a deal with him for a ride on his boat while Rayla and Soren went to see if someone else could do it.
When going to meet Finnegrin, only Ezran was allowed due to Finnegrin's bodyguard Deadwood liking Bait, while Callum stayed outside. There, Ezran tried to make a deal with Finnegrin, but after finding out that Finnegrin wanted to buy Bait, Ezran refused. Before leaving, Finnegrin revealed he had three infants glow toads in one of his boxes, which made Ezran decide to make a plan with the rest of the group to rescue them.
After getting the glow toads, the crew left Scumport on Villad's ship, whom they met earlier that day. However, Finnegrin was furious after finding out Team Zym stole his glow toads and went after them, and while they made multiple attempts to escape, Finnegrin was able to capture Team Zym and their allies. He would also try to force Callum to do dark magic, but they were freed thanks to Soren who was able to convince Finnegrin's bodyguard Deadwood, whose real name was revealed to be Elmer, to stand up to Finnegrin.
They would then arrive at the Sea of the Castout, Ezran and Callum used the magic from the amulet Akiyu gave the latter to get to Aaravos' prison underwater. There, they find Claudia, who attempts to manipulate them into helping her, but they refuse. Claudia then understood that Ezran knew the location of Aaravos' prison but was refusing to tell her, so she tried to attack him and force him to tell her.
They then have a fight, with Rayla also appearing to help them win against Claudia. However, Claudia was briefly able to overpower them and was able to find out where the prison was. However, right after finding out, Rayla cuts off Claudia's leg with her sword, before Callum opens her vial of potion and has it dissipate through the water, leading to Claudia turning back to normal and forcing her to come back to the surface. The trio then got the pearl where Aaravos' prison was and got back to the rest of the group that was on their boat.
Trivia[]
- According to Callum's Spellbook, Ezran likes playing hide-and-seek but dislikes mushy peas.
- Ezran has Callum, Soren, Corvus, and Bait as part of his council after the time skip.
- While this seems silly to outsiders, Ezran chose them specifically for each of their contributions and not because of favoritism; Callum is the first human mage to master natural magic, Soren is a loyal guard who sees often ignored things, Corvus is a stealth expert and tracker, while Bait often helps Ezran think when he's stumped.
- His silver crown was created from Harrow's blade to replace the crown lost with Viren.
