Faith Lehane is a major character in the Buffyverse.
Her first appearance was in the Buffy the Vampire Slayer TV series, succeeding Kendra Young as Buffy Summers’ contemporary. She was a protagonist and later antagonist in season 3, a minor antagonist in season 4, and a supporting protagonist in season 7. She also made a few appearances in the spin-off show Angel.
She was portrayed by Eliza Dushku (who also voiced Shaundi in Saints Row 2, Rubi Malone in WET and She-Hulk in Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H.) and Sarah Michelle Gellar (who also played Buffy Summers and Wishverse Buffy in the same series, Daphne Blake in the live-action Scooby-Doo films and voiced April O'Neil in the 2007 animated TMNT film and Ella in Happily N'Ever After) when body-swapped with Buffy.
Biography[]
Early Life[]
Faith was born on December 14, 1980 in Boston, Massachusetts, to alcoholic mother and father. Her mother used to read her Dr. Seuss's Oh, the Places You'll Go! before bed on the nights she “wasn’t enjoying the drinking and passing out parts of life.”
When she was a kid, Faith and other children used to swim and jump off the rock of a quarry a couple of miles outside of the town. Many of them were afraid to jump off the highest rock, but Faith did anyways, a story she’d later tell to the Mayor. Eventually, she dropped out of high school due to a lack of any friends.
Slayerhood[]
On May 12, 1998, Kendra Young was murdered by the vampire Drusilla, activating Faith as Buffy’s second contemporary.
Faith experienced a number of memorable battles and events as a Slayer and gained a watcher with whom she had a good relationship. She would once save a bus full of Christians from a vampire pack, with the preacher hugging her despite Faith being nude in 18 degrees Fahrenheit weather. Eventually, her Watcher was murdered in front of her by Kakistos. Faith tried fighting Kakistos, but lost and fled to Sunnydale, California.
Scooby Career[]
Faith arrived to Sunnydale when Buffy began her senior year. Initially believing her to be a vampire due to her seduction of a bar patron, the Scoobies followed her into the alleyway behind the Bronze and discovered that she was actually a Slayer, and the man she lured there was a vampire.
Abilities[]
Vampire Slayer Abilities: As a slayer Faith possesses advanced abilities well above humans, being designed to go toe-to-toe with vampires and even high-level demons.
- Superhuman Strength: Due to her abilities Faith is immensely strong, being able to easily overpower even centuries old vampire masters with little effort, and match the strength of older and more powerful demons more dangerous than Vampires.
- Superhuman Agility: Faith is a skilled acrobat due to her abilities making her incredibly agile and flexible, complimenting her combat prowess.
- Superhuman Resilience: As a Slayer Faith is extremely durable, being able to survive injuries most humans and even some demons would not have.
- Superhuman Senses: Faith possesses heightened senses, not only her human ones but also possesses a separate ability to sense vampires, even differentiate individuals from one another.
- Regenerative Healing Factor: Due to her abilities Faith heals much quicker than humans, shrugging off major injuries within a few hours and healing from mortal wounds within days.
- Adaptive Intelligence: Faith's combat awareness is enhanced to superhuman levels, allowing her a much greater degree of focus and cunning in the heat of battle.
- Intuitive Combat Instincts: Separate from her learned skills Faith possesses innate survival skills as a Slayer, allowing her to adequately defend herself even when amnesiac.
- Precognitive Dreaming: Slayers are gifted with visions from the Powers that Be, giving forewarning of disaster when necessary.
- Mystical Protection: As a Slayer Faith possesses a degree of resistance to magic.
High Intellect/Master Tactician and Strategist/Master Investigator and Tracker: Despite being dismissed as dim-witted and rough by many, Faith is an intelligent, cunning, and resourceful woman, allowing her to get the upper-hand against many opponents who had underestimated her. When first arriving in Sunnydale Faith proved to be a resourceful and skilled fighter and Vampire hunter despite her original Watcher having died before giving her a significant degree of practical training. After joining Wilkins' side and fighting against the Scooby gang Faith demonstrated a great degree of cunning and resourcefulness as a tactician, nearly succeeding to kill Buffy during their confrontation. After waking up from her coma Faith showed herself to also be a capable strategist and manipulator, being able to successfully outsmart Buffy and swap bodies with her, as well as successfully deceive most of the Scoobies into believing that she was Buffy, even Buffy's then boyfriend Riley Finn, who had military and special forces training. When working for Wolfram & Hart in Los Angeles Faith displayed an exceeding competency as a tracker and strategist despite her volatile behavior, successfully injuring and nearly killing Angel as well as capturing Wesley Wydam-Pryce and torturing him. Years later Faith was able to successfully track down and subdue Angelus, something that Buffy herself had notably been unable to accomplish, doing so by managing to outsmart him. After the founding of the Slayer organization Faith led her own Slayer squad, doing so with a good degree of competency.
Master Martial Artist: As a slayer Faith possesses intuitive combat skills, which allow for a basic rudimentary ability to combat vampires. Though her Watcher died without significantly training her Faith was able to train herself into a formidable brawler, allowing her to get the upper-hand and severely injure Kakistos. After training with the Scooby gang and learning under Giles and Wesley's tutelage Faith supplemented formal martial arts into her style, honing her skill to a greater lethal efficency.
- Expert Markswoman: Faith showed herself to be a skilled user of both crossbows and firearms.
- Weapon Mastery: As a slayer Faith possesses an innate understanding of medieval weaponry and combat techniques, allowing her to effectively use a wide variety of weapons with competent proficiency. Faith specifically seems to prefer knives, as Wilkins gifted her a demon knife that she began using as her primary weapon.
