The Fel Empire, also known as the New Galactic Empire, the New Empire and simply The Empire, are major characters of the Legacy Era of Star Wars Legends. It is a continuation of the First Galactic Empire under Darth Sidious, however unlike its predecessor, the Fel Empire takes a more benevolent approach, such as tolerance to Alien life forms. It was also known as the Empire-in-Exile during the Second Imperial Civil War.
The Fel dynasty governed the New Empire, mirroring many aspects of Palpatine's original Galactic Empire, including the Council of Moffs, centralized authority, the Emperor's Force-sensitivity, and a reduced level of xenophobia. In contrast to Palpatine, a dark-side-devoted Sith Lord, the Fel emperors fostered light side Force-users, promoted peaceful expansion via the Victory Without War campaign, established the Imperial Knights (a parallel to the Jedi Order), and initiated the charitable Imperial Mission. The Fel Empire regained galactic dominance after the Sith-Imperial War, superseding the Galactic Federation of Free Alliances, but was quickly overthrown by a newly formed Sith Empire, leading to the exile of Fel loyalists.
History[]
Originally the Imperial Remnant, the Fel Empire was founded when the Imperial Head of State, Jagged Fel, declared himself Emperor. With his wife, Empress Jaina Solo Fel, who was a Jedi Master, the two established the Fel Dynasty which the empire was named after. Jaina Solo is also credited as the founder of the Imperial Knights, an order of Force users who serve as guards of the emperor. Due to Jaina's immense Force sensitivity, the Fel family is made up of Force users. Also, because of Jaina's Skywalker heritage, the Fel family are relatives of the Skywalkers and Solos.
Around 120 years after the Battle of Yavin IV, during the reign of Emperor Roan Fel, the One Sith manipulated a war between the Galactic Alliance and the Fel Empire, where the Sith sided with the Empire. The Empire won and succeeded in casting out the Galactic Alliance and recaptured Coruscant. For the first time since the reign of Emperor Palpatine, the empire is the dominant galactic government. However, after the Sith decimated the Jedi Order, they betrayed the Fel Empire in a coup which led to Emperor Roan and his followers fleeing and the Sith leader, Darth Krayt, declaring himself emperor.
Over the next seven years, the Empire fell into civil war between the factions led by Roan Fel and Darth Krayt. Eventually, the Fel Empire, the remains of the Jedi Order and the remnant of the Galactic Alliance joined forces and succeeded in defeating the One Sith, though Emperor Roan Fel was killed after he fell to the dark side. He was succeeded by his daughter, Princess Marasiah Fel. Alongside the Jedi Order and the Galactic Alliance, Empress Marasiah Fel formed the Galactic Federation Triumvirate.
