Biography[]
Bardock was born on Planet Vegeta at an unknown time period as a low class warrior. While his childhood is unknown in his adulthood he would lead a five person land shark team made up of low class warriors like himself. The team consisted of his friends Shugesh, Borgos, Fasha, and his best friend Tora. They would often take on the hardest missions that most elite warriors would not even take in order to prove themselves as well as become stronger from the battles. Bardock would eventually marry a kind hearted Saiyan woman named Gine whom was previously apart of his crew but retired and became a butcher when she realized she wasn't fit to be a fighter. Eventually Bardock and Gine had a son named Raditz who years later left Planet Vegeta when he was older to join the Prince of the Saiyans, Vegeta and General Nappa in their own squadron.

Due to his weak power he is thus expected to be sent to a backwater planet called Earth a place with low power-level inhabitants where he will grow up to exterminate all life on the planet for its future sale. Meanwhile, Bardock and his friends are on an assignment to slaughter the natives of Planet Kanassa. They use their Great Ape forms to decimate the planets inhabitants. After every last Kanassan is seemingly wiped out, Bardock and his crew rest up and celebrate their victory. During which they ask Bardock about his son Kakarot. His teammate Fasha suggests he go see his newborn child before their next mission, However Bardock doesn’t wanna be bothered with the kid as he believes Kakarot is just a weakling with no potential as a warrior. However one remaining Kanassan warrior named Toolo emerges and attacks Bardock by striking him in the back of the neck and states he gave him the ability to see the future as revenge for his fallen brethren so Bardock could foresee the horrific destruction of him and his race, just as the Kanassan were forced to see their own. Bardock then quickly kills Toolo before suddenly collapsing on the ground much to the shock and worry of his crew.
His team quickly rushes him to a medical bay although the doctors note he is physically fine there is a slight change in his brainwave patterns. Thus, Bardock's crew decides to leave him behind to heal while they go on their next mission. As Bardock is healing in a medical pod he suffers terrible visions of Frieza destroying Planet Vegeta and vision of his son growing up but he passes them off as simple nightmares. When he awakens he is informed by a med bay doctor named Planthorr that his team was assigned to conquer Planet Meat by Frieza himself. Angered at being left behind and missing out on the conquest, Bardock excitedly leaves. On his way out he spots his infant son Kakarot in the nursery and uses his scouter to read his power level but he is disappointed and ashamed to find he only has a power level of two and quickly departs.
When he arrives on Meat he only finds most his team dead and his best friend Tora fatally wounded. Before he succumbs to his injuries, Tora reveals that their squad was betrayed and killed by Dodoria and his elite soldiers explaining that Frieza has no more use for them. Tora then tells Bardock to return to Planet Vegeta and rally their people to destroy Frieza and show him the true power of the Saiyans. Tora then dies in Bardock’s arms with a smile on his face. Heartbroken, Bardock then takes the white bandana from Tora's arm and cleans the blood off his corpse and silently vows to destroy Frieza for what he has done. Dodoria's elite then appears and sadistically claims that Bardock will be there next victim. Bardock takes Tora's blood soaked bandana and wears it as a headband and then attacks the elite warriors in an epic battle. While he is fighting he is briefly distracted by future visions of his son battling Prince Vegeta. Despite this he manages to kill them all and mostly avenge his crew. Dodoria suddenly confronts Bardock and blasts him with an energy wave from his mouth thinking he killed him Dodoria leaves however Bardock barely survived and is left severely injured, but manages to get in his space pod and make it back to Planet Vegeta.
On his way back to his home planet he notices to his fear that Frieza's ship is heading to Planet Vegeta. Suddenly he quickly passes his son's pod as it’s departing Planet Vegeta and sees even more visions of him growing up. Landing on his home planet two soldiers tell him about his son’s departure to a blue planet called Earth for his infiltration mission. Bardock remembers Earth as the planet seen in his visions and finally realizes that all of his hallucinations were indeed visions of the future and that Frieza intends to destroy the entire Saiyan race by annihilating their home-world. Bardock then enters a local bar and attempts to convince the other Saiyans of the danger that they are all in and implores that they all band together to stop Frieza, but everyone laughs at his claims, Bardock angrily leaves intent to stop him on his own. As Bardock is rushing to stop Frieza he passes out from the damage he sustained. He then hallucinates his son as an adult on planet Namek but that vision soon turns to an image of Frieza jolting him awake and reminding him of the stakes of his battle. Bardock then vows to kill Frieza and defy fate to forge a better future for his people.
He flies into the upper atmosphere to reach Frieza's ship only to be confronted by hundreds of Frieza's men sent out to stop him. However unwavering in his determination, Bardock charges at all of them head first killing almost all of soldiers thrown at him much to Frieza's annoyance.
Frieza then emerges from his spaceship to confront Bardock himself. The lone warrior then gives a heroic speech claiming that what he is about to do will change the fate of Planet Vegeta, his own, his son Kakarot's and even the fate of Frieza himself. Bardock then unleashes his most powerful attack the "Final Spirit Cannon" launching it at the tyrant in an attempt to kill him, Bardock seems poised to change the future. However, Frieza counters the attack with his deadly "Supernova" technique a enormous ball of engery which absorbs his blast and kills Bardock, many of his own soldiers, and destroys Planet Vegeta and it's people thus putting an end to the mighty Saiyan race, all while laughing like a madman.
However as he is dying, Bardock sees one more vision of the future: his son Kakarot engaging in a climactic battle against Frieza. Being assured that Kakarot will be the one to put an end to Frieza's reign of terror; Bardock gives a small smile as he dies along with his people yelling his sons name in pride. As the planet is reduced to space dust, Frieza continues laughing at its destruction, as well as telling Dodoria and Zarbon to watch the "beautiful fireworks". After his demise, Bardock telepathically gives a final goodbye to his son Kakarot, telling him to fulfill his destiny by killing Frieza and avenging the Saiyan race.
Soon afterwards, Kakarot's space pod touches down on Earth, where he is found by an elderly man named Son Gohan and giggles happily in the old man's arms. Gohan decides to care for the boy as if he were his grandson, and renames him Son Goku. The special ends with a montage of Goku's many heroic deeds on Earth, culminating in an image of Goku about to battle Frieza on Namek, with the spirits of Bardock, his friends and the rest of the Saiyan race watching him in the background.
Legacy[]
25 years after Bardock's death, during Goku's battle with Frieza the latter quickly recognizes that Goku is the spitting image of Bardock and remembers how he rebelled against him before he destroyed Planet Vegeta. Before his death, Vegeta also indirectly mentions him to Goku when he informs him he was one of the many Saiyans betrayed and murdered by Frieza and begs him to avenge them for the sake of their race's pride and honor.
Later when Goku is being badly beaten and tortured by Frieza during their battle, a vision of Vegeta, King Vegeta, and Bardock speak to Goku from beyond the grave encouraging him to keep fighting and succeed where they failed or else the legacy of the Saiyans will be forever lost to time. Ultimately Goku is able to transform into the one thing Freiza fears; a Super Saiyan and proceeds to finally fulfill his destiny by defeating Frieza and avenging every Saiyan he murdered, including Bardock, his mother Gine, Bardock's crew and King Vegeta restoring the pride and honor of the Saiyan race.
Episode of Bardock[]
After the destruction of Planet Vegeta at Frieza’s hands, instead of dying Bardock is sent back in time by unknown means to when Planet Vegeta was called Planet Plant hundreds of years before it was taken by the Saiyans. He is cared for by Ipana and his son Berry. Suddenly, he sees a strange spaceship that closely resembles Frieza's, knowing it's not possible since Frieza hasn't been born yet. Bardock quickly heads to a nearby village and easily defeats a group of invading soldiers. He flies off after the villagers thank him. Berry comes and brings him food, but Bardock just sends him off. However, Bardock's hunger makes him eat. Berry brings another basket of food for Bardock to eat. A third time, he sits down and learns Bardock's name while eating. Some time later, a group of mysterious people arrive, claiming to be "intergalactic peacekeepers". However, Berry tells Bardock about them, just as the "peacekeepers" destroy their village. Berry pleads to Bardock to save his village although he initially refused, he remembers his fallen comrades and realizes that he can’t let those people die like they did. Bardock finally accepts and goes to confront the invaders. He then goes to the village, taking out some of the soldiers. Their leader reveals himself as Lord Chilled, who Bardock realizes is one of Frieza's ancestors. He attacks him, and gets beaten down. Berry tells Chilled to stop as he is about to deliver the final blow. Chilled proceeds to hit Berry and send him flying into a rock. Bardock remembers his friends' deaths on Planet Meat and enraged at the realization that he is once again too weak to protect his loved ones, ignites his transformation to a Super Saiyan. After ascending to this new power, he easily overpowers Chilled before blasting him into space. Before he dies from his injuries, Chilled pleads to his army that they warn his family of the "Super Saiyan". Bardock then walks off into the sunset as Berry and Ipana look on.
Dragon Ball Minus[]
In this alternate depiction of events written by Akira Toriyama, Bardock is shown here very differently than how he was in Bardock, The Father of Goku. Bardock is still a low-class Saiyan mercenary who leads a small platoon however it's comprised of six other Saiyan soldiers: Tora, Fasha, Borgos, Leak, Taro and Shugesh. Together, Bardock's team makes a living by travelling to various planets where they decimate the defenses of these civilizations and prepare them for Frieza's Planetary Market. However, Bardock wife Gine is shown for the first time, who first met him after she was rescued by him and his squad during one of their missions, with Gine soon developing feelings for Bardock. Due to her kind, gentle nature and low power level, Gine was not cut out for fighting and stayed behind on Planet Vegeta to raise her and Bardock's two sons. Her gentle nature has also changed Bardock's behavior to be more supportive of his sons, as Saiyans usually do not demonstrate care for their children. Bardock and Gine already had raised Raditz and Kakarot by the time of Planet Vegeta's destruction. The pair of Bardock and Gine were joined by a bond other than for reproductive purposes as they were also romantically involved.
Bardock and a fellow Saiyan are in battle against aliens on another planet when they receive a message on their Scouters ordering all Saiyans to return to Planet Vegeta. The two head back to Planet Vegeta, noticing Frieza's spaceship hovering in orbit above the planet which makes Bardock believe that Frieza must have a hidden agenda. Bardock reunites with Gine, and asks if their son, Kakarot, is still in his incubator which he has been for three years and thus will be released soon. Later at night, Bardock steals an Attack Ball, and he and Gine send Kakarot away to Earth, also deciding to inform Raditz about this. Later Frieza shows up in Planet Vegeta's atmosphere to annihilate the Saiyans just like Bardock theorized. Bardock flies up to Frieza's ship and fights off his men in an attempt to stop him like in the original story, however Frieza launches his Supernova attack. Bardock tries to counter the blast with a powerful energy wave but it merely consumes his attack and kills him and the rest of the Saiyans, along with Planet Vegeta.
