The history of Goku, the protagonist of Dragon Ball.

Kakarot was born on Planet Vegeta in age 737 as the son of Bardock and Gine two low class warriors. He was born into the mighty Saiyan race, a people of war who were employed under the warlord Frieza to conquer planets for his army. A day after he was born Kakarot's power was measured by doctors and as expected due to his parents being low class warriors Kakarot's power was very weak, only having a power level of two. It was determined that Kakarot would be sent to planet Earth as a infiltration baby where he will grow up to exterminate all life on the planet for its future sale. Baby Kakarot was officially sent of by the Saiyan army narrowly missing the surprise attack on his home planet by Frieza who had grown to fear the Saiyans power and thus decided to destroy the entire race to avoid a possible uprising. Kakarot's father Bardock attempted to stop Frieza by himself but he failed and was wiped out with the rest of the Saiyans leaving Kakarot and a few others the only survivors.

When Goku landed on earth he was found by a kind old man who lived in the mountains named Gohan who adopted him as his grandson and named him Goku. As a infant due to his violent Saiyan nature he was rowdy and hostile constantly attacking Gohan but one day he accidentally fell and hit his head on a tree ridding him of his destructive tendencies. Gohan then raised Goku to be a pure hearted kind boy and even taught him martial arts and survival skills. However Goku's race held a dark power if he were to ever look at a full moon he would transform into a giant ape-like creature called the Great Ape and become a mindless destructive monster. One night he transformed and accidentally killed Gohan but when he woke up he had no memory of the event. He then laid his Grandpa to rest and kept his four star Dragon Ball as a means to remember him by.

Meeting Bulma

Goku as he first appears in Dragonball

One day in the woods, a twelve year old Goku was collecting firewood (entire trees) when he hears something. He goes to investigate to find a girl driving a car. Goku, having never seen a vehicle before believes it to be a monster. He attacks the car with amazing strength and is shot at by the girl driving it, when she sees that the bullets were unable to do serious harm, she introduces herself as Bulma. Goku, having never seen a girl before, notices that she doesn't have a monkey tail (like he does) and thinks her strange for it. Though he does note that his Grandpa Gohan didn't have a tail either. Bulma tells Goku about the Dragon Balls after seeing that Goku had the Four Star Ball, and shows her the two that she had gathered. Goku had believed the Ball to be all that was left of his Grandpa, and is surprised that Bulma has two "Grandpa's". Bulma tells him that with all seven balls a single wish could be granted. Bulma, after seeing his strength, decides that he would be a good body guard, so she has him accompany her and lies that she'll returns his dragon ball after getting her wish when in truth the Dragon Balls shoot off around the planet and turn to stone for 1 year after a wish is granted Goku's is quickly forced into becoming Bulma's bodyguard when she is attacked by a monster who tricks Goku into believing that the monster is Bulma's friend and ties up the naive Goku but Goku manages to save Bulma in the end.

The Turtle Hermit

During their journey, Bulma and Goku happen upon a lost turtle, who is looking for the sea. A giant animal with a sword tries to take the turtle and eat him, but Goku saves the turtle, despite Bulma advising Goku not to. The turtle is grateful, and once they reach the sea he says that he will come back with a surprise for them. After a few hours the turtle returns, with an old man on his back. The old man reveals himself to be the Turtle Hermit Master Roshi. He gives Goku a cloud called the Flying Nimbus that only the pure in heart can ride and as such believes Goku unable to ride only to be proved wrong when has no problem riding it. Bulma, who can't ride the nimbus due to not having a pure heart, asks for something from Roshi, as he thinks she notices a dragon ball around his neck. She asks for it, and Roshi gives it to her, but when she mentions that it can grant wishes he wants it back. Bulma asks if there would be anything she could do to get it, and Roshi asks to see her panties, and after flashing them (and more due to her not knowing her panties were gone), he hands it over. Later Bulma is angry upon discovering that Goku had removed her underwear earlier in the morning when she was sleeping, making her realize she had shown the perverted Roshi far more than intended, and so attacks Goku with a machine gun in revenge.

Defeating Oolong

Goku and Bulma continue their search and come upon a village that is being rampaged by an evil ruler known as Oolong, a powerful shapeshifter. A woman in the town happens to have a dragonball, and she tells them that if they defeat Oolong it is theirs. To do this, Goku is dressed as a girl, as Oolong had been taking girls away from the village and Goku will impersonate his next intended victim. However Goku has to pee and shamelessly does so out in the open and is seen by Oolong who realizes he's been tricked and runs. Bulma and Goku catch up to him and find out that he is just a shapeshifting pig who only took the village girls in order to help him take care of his surprisingly large home but the girls all quickly became spoiled and did nothing around the house and were wasting his money so he begs the village to take them back. Bulma, seeing these powers as potentially useful, drags Oolong along with them.

The Desert Bandits

As their journey continues, the car they are in runs out of gas, trapping them in a desert. There they run into Yamcha the Desert Bandit and his shapshifting cat Puar. Bulma passes out from heat before they arrive, and Yamcha tries to rob them. Goku fights him, and Yamcha uses his Ultimate Technique Wolf Fang Fist, but Goku still manages to survive it. Once Bulma wakes up, Yamcha gets shy, as he does around all girls, and runs away.. When wondering where to stay that night, Oolong rembers he has a Camper Capsule, so the three stay in that. Oolong drugs Goku and Bulma's drinks so that he get back at Bulma for her treatment of him, but is interrupted when Yamcha and Puar try to steal the dragon balls. Both attempts comically fail, and Yamcha blows up their Camper, and flees when Goku tries to fight him. He gives them a car to say sorry, but had a homing device on it, so he could follow them as they get the dragonballs, and steal them once they get them all.

The Mountain of Fire

Goku and company arrived at Fire Mountain, looking for a dragonball that was hidden there. They met a giant man and upon seeing Goku's nimbus cloud, which he realized Goku got from his former master Master Roshi, he reveals that he is the Ox-King, and that he lives on a castle on Fire Mountain. The King then tells Goku that he had sent his daughter, Chi-Chi, to find Master Roshi and get a magic fan that could put out the flames that prevented him from returning to his catle. He tells Goku that if he gets his daughter and the fan that he can have the dragonball. Goku quickly finds Chi Chi, and they head straight to Master Roshi's island. Upon arrival Roshi tells Goku that he got rid of the fan a while back, and offers to put out the fire himself. The three return to Fire Mountain and Roshi uses a technique called the Kamehameha wave to put out the fire on the mountain, and also destroys the montain itself in the process. Bulma looks through the remains and is able to find the ball intact, and the Ox-King allows her to keep it. Goku asks Master Roshi to teach him the Kamehameha, but Roshi tells him that it would take 50 years to learn, however, Goku tries, and is able to make a smalller one which destroys their car, but the Ox-King gives them a new one, and the journey continues. Before leaving Goku is approached by Chi-chi who, having gained a crush on him, asks different things in the Manga and the Anime since in the anime she appears off and on while in the Manga this is her last appearance before the 23rd World tournament. In the anime she asks Goku if he will think of her during his journey, to which he replies yes. Then, he asks her if she will think of him, which causes her to blush and giggle making Goku wonder if all girls are this silly. In the Manga she asks if Goku will come back to take her as his Bride. Goku has no idea what a Bride is but says that if she's giving some that he will come get it and just like that Goku became engaged to Chi-Chi without realizing it.

The Rabbit Mob

Goku's First Kamehameha

As Goku, Bulma, and Oolong are driving, they realize that they are low on gas, so they stop in a nearby town. After getting the gas, two men in bunny ears confront them. Goku quickly defeats them, and they call in their boss, Monster Carrot, who is a giant rabbit. When Bulma slaps him she turns into a carrot. Goku hits Monster Carrot with his power pole, and makes him change Bulma back. The rabbit does this and them Goku uses the pole to take him and his servants to the moon.

Confronting Pilaf

The group then goes to find the last ball, which is owned by the evil Emperor Pilaf. One of his henchman, Shu, fires a rocket at their car, and steals a briefcase that contained all the dragonballs, exept for the four star ball, which Goku held on to. Yamcha offers then a ride and takes then all the way to Pilaf's castle. They sneak inside, only to be traped once they get in. Emperor Pilaf fills the rooms with sleeping gas. Once they were all alseep Pilaf had his henhcman Mai take the last dragonball from Goku. Once they wake up, they wander through the halls to try to get the balls back, however, they only manage to get trapped back in the same room they had started in. Goku uses a Kamehameha which creates a small hole in the wall which they can see Pilaf through. Puar and Oolong turn into bats and try to get the balls back, but before they can Shenron is summoned. Pilaf starts to make his wish, but Oolong interupts him, wishing for the worlds most comfortable pair of underwear. With this the dragon dissapears and the balls scatter across the world. Angered, Pilaf gets them into a room where they will be burned alive when the sun comes up. Yamcha notes the full moon, and Goku tells the story of a monster that appears at the full moon that had killed his Grandpa who warned Goku never to look at the moon. Added with the fact that Goku slept through the monster's rampage, everyone believes that he can turn into a transforming monster and so Bulma orders him not to look at the moon

Goku after becoming an Oozaru or Great Ape

However, Goku accidentally looks at it when Bulma told him not to. When he does he is seemingly unaffected at first but quickly tranforms into a Great Ape and breaks through the ceiling of the room.and goes on a rampage through the castle. Pilaf and his minions enter a plane and shoot at Goku, but he quickly destroys their plane. Puar remembers that Goku's weakness was his tail, so he turns into a giant pair of scissors and Yamcha cuts it off. Goku returns to normal, and again has no memory of what had happened so Bulma and the others decide to keep it a secret in order to avoid Goku learning he had accidentally illed his grandfather. Goku decides that he wants to train with master Roshi, and Bulma gives him the dragon radar before he leaves, so that in one year when the dragonballs work again he can find his grandfather's Dragon Ball.

The Tournament Saga

Training

Goku quickly goes to his house to gather a few things, and then heads straight to Master Roshi's island to begin training. Roshi tells him that he will only train Goku if he brings back a girlfriend for him. Goku brings back two, the first is giant, scary, and ugly, and the second is beautiful, but a mermaid. After the mermaid leaves a bald boy named Krillin arrives on the island seeking training from Roshi as well. Roshi sends Krillin and Goku to find a girlfriend for him. As they are flying on the Nimbus they find a girl being attacked by two men, and save her. They bring a girl named Launch back to Roshi and he decides that she is perfect despite her switching to a violent split personality known as Bad Launch when she sneezes. Roshi agrees to train Goku and Krillin.

Roshi starts off their training by seeing how fast they can run 100 meters. Krillin starts off and is able to run the distance in 10.4 seconds. Goku first takes 11 seconds, but after taking off his shoes Goku was able to do it in 8 seconds. Master Roshi then did it, and beat both their times with a 5.6. The next test for the two was to find a stone that Master Roshi threw into the forest, and he told the loser that they would not get dinner. Goku, who loves to eat, runs off right away to find the stone, while Krillin tries to trick Roshi with a fake stone. This does not work as Roshi recognizes the stone's symbol lacked his handwriting and Krillin ends up being behind Goku in the search. After spending hours searching, Goku finally finds the stone, but Krillin catches up to him and underhandedly tricks Goku into handing it over before suddenly running away. Goku catches up to him and fights him, and is able to win, however, Krillin throws his fake stone into the woods and Goku runs after it. By the time Goku had come back Krillin already won by returning the stone to Master Roshi, so Goku had to go without dinner.. As it would turn out, Launch made poorly prepared pufferfish, so Krillin (and Master Roshi) was poisoned from eating it.

Goku and Krillin training

The next faze of Goku and Krillin's training is to deliver milk across a large island, across rivers and up mountains. When they finally finish Roshi tells them that to prepare for the World's 21st Martial Arts Tournament they will deliver milk ever day, and that is just for their early-morning training. They then begin to plow fields with their bare hands, and once they finish that they help out construction workers. After a nap and lunch Goku asks why they aren't learning to fight to which Roshi replies that their bodies couldn't handle it. Their training finishes off with swimming ten laps around a lake while being chased by sharks and being tied to a tree and attacked by bees. When the day ends Roshi tells them that from now on they will be wearing 50 pound turtle shells on their backs every day.

After a few months of this Goku and Krillin become very frustrated that they haven't learned a single fighting technique. Roshi tells them that the point is to make their bodies strong, and gives them 100 pound shells to wear from then on. When the last day of training comes, Goku and Krillin take off their shells and are able to run much faster and jump much higher than they could before. They then head off to the island where the Worlds Martial Arts Tournament is held.

Tenkaichi Budokai

When they arrive they see Bulma, Yamcha, Oolong, and Puar for the first time in nearly a year. The next day Roshi gives them new uniforms to show that they trained under him. The tournament begins with a preliminary round to decide who fights in the tournament itself. Goku is first paired with a giant man, but he is able to knock him out of the ring by simply tapping the man's leg which makes Goku realize how much stronger the training had really made him and advises Krillin to hold back in his preliminary matches. When the preliminaries are over, Goku, Krillin, and Yamcha proceed to the quarter finals. Krillin wins his first match, while Yamcha isn't able to land a hit on his opponent, Jackie Chun. A man named Nam fights a woman named Ran Fan and is able to win, leaving only Goku and a monster named Giran. His match, however, is delayed due to rain. Giran causes some trouble in the meantime, but the match soon comes underway.

The match begins with Giran sucker-punching Goku, Goku responds with a strong attack and knocks Giran out of the ring, only to discover that he can fly. Giran then spits gum onto Goku, which turns rock hard in a matter of seconds. Giran then throws Goku out of the arena, but Goku calls the nimbus to save him which Giran calls on as cheating since the cloud counts as a tool to which Goku calls Giran a cheater for using his Gum and Giran explains it is a part of his body and thus not a tool but a technique. The announcer tells Goku that he will allow the fight to continue, but only because Giran had used Gum which confused the battle and makes it clear that if Goku calls on the Nimbus again that he will be disqualified. The battle resumed with Goku still trapped in the gum and Giran preparing to punch him out of the ring, but Goku suddenly grew his tail back, revealing his tail made him more powerful and then breaks free of the Gum. Goku kicks through one of the walls of the arena to judge his increased strength before returning to the battle only for Giran to quickly surrender in fear of Goku's newfound strength.

The next fight is Krillin vs Jackie Chun. While the fight is close, Jackie Chun wins. Goku's second match then begins, against Nam. Goku tries to use a tornado attack, but becomes to dizzy to finish it. Using the opportunity Nam jumps up, and falls down on Goku who is seemingly down for the count. Goku is able to get up though after Bulma wakes him through yelling that dinner is ready.. Nam tries his attack again, but Goku has seen its weakness so quickly jumps out of the way and kicks the airborne Nam out of the ring.

Goku, with shorter legs, was unable to hit Jackie as hard.

The final match comes between Jackie Chun and Goku. Goku tries an aerial attack but Jackie kicks him out of the ring. Goku saves himself by spinning his tail around to fly back into the ring. Jackie Chun uses a Kamehameha wave, and Goku responds with a Kamehameha of his own, and the two are evenly matched. The two then start using illusions to trick each other, but the battle progresses nowhere. Finally, Jackie Chun says that he will use his greatest technique, and he shoots electricity at Goku, stunning him and orders him to surrender. Just as it seems Goku will give in, he looks at the visible moon and becomes a Great Ape and begins another rampage. Yamcha and the others make plans to cut Goku's tail off, but Jackie Chun, who did not know that Goku could be stopped by cutting the tail off, launches a powerful Kamehameha which destroys the stadium. When the dust clears Goku cannot be seen and his friends assumed he had been killed. However, Goku is found under the rubble, as Jackie reveals that he used the Kamehameha to destroy the moon. After the match resumes, Goku and Jackie are exhausted so agree to end the match with one final kick in the air. Both fall to the ground and fail to rise before the count is up so the announcer decides that the first to stand up and claim they are the champion will win the match. Goku nearly manages to do so but unfortunately collapses before he could finish getting the words out. Next Jackie stands up and claims he is the champion and so he wins the match and the world tournament . Roshi takes Goku and company to dinner to celebrate how well they did in the tournament and quickly regrets it as Goku eats so much that in the end Roshi has to pay a bill of 470,000 zenny.

The Red Ribbon Army Saga

Fight against General Silver

After coming runner up in the World Martial Arts Tournament, Goku is told by Master Roshi that he should go out and see the world, and Goku decides that he will use this opportunity to search of his grandfather's Four-Star Dragon Ball. At the beginning of his quest he helps save Nam's Village by accompanying him to Giran's Village in order to get the river flowing again. After completing this task, he decides to go skinny dipping in an oasis where he gets his belongings stolen by a homeless kid and while he manages to get his clothes and powerpole back the homeless kid still has the dragon radar and sells it to an Antique Store in a nearby town. Once Goku gets there and gets his radar back, he confronts Emperor Pilaf, who is holding the four star Dragon Ball. After chasing Pilaf to his flying fortress, Goku receives the ball finding out that it is fake. While following the radar's signal he ends up meeting back up with Chi-Chi who had a wedding prepared for them. Goku and Chi-Chi quickly go together back to the Ox-King's Village to find that an organization called the Red Ribbon Army has attacked. Goku and Chi-Chi fight off the troops until they fled. Goku leaves Chi-Chi and the Ox-King in a hurry to go and chase them. He ends up in the Desert where he gets into Pilaf's flying fortress while the Red Ribbon Army was attacking it. After Pilaf's fortress is destroyed, Goku is caught in the explosion and wakes up in a forest where he meets a family of monkeys. After Goku finds the Dragon Ball, he battles Colonel Silver, who seemingly destroyed his Flying Nimbus. Goku easily defeats Silver, and knocks him out with his tail.

Battle inside the Muscle Tower

After seeing that the Dragon Ball he found was not his grandfather's Four-Star Ball and believing his Nimbus cloud destroyed, he has one of the army's auto pilot droids fly him to the next Dragon Ball. The plane crashes when the droid freezes, and Goku freezes, unable to move. He is then taken to Jingle Village by a girl named Suno. When he awakens, he hears that the Red Ribbon Army is there as well. Goku goes to their closest base known as Muscle Tower. Once he gets in he easily takes out three soldiers and then battles an android known as Major Metallitron. Goku wins the battle when Metallitron's batteries die and proceeds to the next floor where he fights the Ninja Murasaki. Goku easily defeats Murasaki and humiliates him, an example when Murasaki lands on Goku's Power Pole. Goku proves to be a difficult match for Murasaki and even his brothers, so he resorts to releasing Android 8. Android 8 ends up befriending Goku instead of fighting him because he dislikes violence, allowing Goku to reach the top of Muscle Tower. General White, the commander of the tower resorts to having his pet monster Buyon eat them, but the creature gets frozen and destroyed. General White is defeated and Goku saves the Jingle Village Chief while obtaining another Dragon Ball that Android 8 was hiding from the army.

Goku finds out from one of the village elders that nimbus Clouds can't be easily destroyed like Goku had assumed it to be so Goku tries calling for the cloud and is overjoyed when it appears. Goku decides to go to West City to have Bulma fix his Dragon Radar that broke. Goku arrives at Bulma's house, Capsule Corporation, and has her fix the radar. Bulma then decides to join Goku on his quest for his Dragon Ball using her new invention the Micro Band. While still in the city Goku meets back up with Yamcha, Oolong and Puar. They decide to spend the day in the new theme park Dream Land where they were stalked by a thief hired by the Red Ribbon Army named Hasky. After being tricked by her she tries to get away with Goku's two Dragon Balls but he captures her and gets them back.

Conflict with General Blue

Goku and Bulma travel to the site of the next Dragon Ball which was located at the bottom of the sea. Not having a submarine, Goku and Bulma obtain one from Master Roshi who has Krillin join them. Under the ocean, they find a Pirate Cave, where they are chased by the Red Ribbon Army's strongest operative, General Blue. Goku defeated a Pirate Robot and a giant octopus named Octopapa while Krillin and Bulma were being attacked by Blue. Goku arrives to save them, but Goku is stunned by General Blue's telekinesis. Goku was able to break free when a mouse scares Blue. While the cave began to collapse, Goku quickly grabbed the Dragon Ball and saved his mouse friend and barely escaped with Bulma and Krillin in an old submarine they found. When they arrived back at Kame House, General Blue arrives and uses his telekinesis to tie everybody up and steal the Dragon Balls along with putting a bomb on the island to kill them. Luckily, Launch returned and set Goku free to get rid of the bomb and chase Blue.

Goku ends up chasing General Blue to Gengoro Island, where he crashes in a strange town named Penguin Village. While there Goku meets Arale Norimaki and the Gatchans who try to help Goku look for General Blue and the Dragon Balls. Arale introduces Goku to Taro and Akane who seemed interested in his flying nimbus. Goku searched through Penguin Village and asked many of the residents if they have seen General Blue. Arale takes Goku to her house to have Senbei fix his radar. While at the Norimaki house General Blue shows up to steal Senbei's plane and fights Goku again. While using his telekinesis again on Goku, Arale surprises Goku by easily defeating him and headbutts General Blue far away. While Goku got his Dragon Balls back he got his Dragon Radar stolen by Blue. Senbei's son, Turbo uses his powers to create him a new one with parts from Senbei's plane so he can continue his quest.

Facing and defeating Mercenary Tao

Goku's next location was the Sacred Land of Korin where he defeats Captain Yellow and finally retrieves his four star Dragon Ball. There, he meets two of the lands natives, a powerful warrior named Bora and his son Upa. Seeing that their best soldiers had failed against Goku, the Red Ribbon Army turned to the world's deadliest assassin, Mercenary Tao, to kill him. Tao arrives to Goku's location and murders Bora with ease. Goku then attacks him. Goku loses against Tao in the battle against his Dodon Ray but survived because the four star ball in his shirt blocked the full force of the blast. While Tao decides to stay in a town for a couple of days, Goku decides to climb Korin Tower to get the Sacred Water of Korin. When he gets to the top, it takes Goku three days to snatch it from him. Goku drinks the water, yet does not feel any different, which Korin explained was because it was ordinary rain water and that the training to try and get to it made him stronger. When Tao returns, Goku comes back and defeats him in battle by kicking one of Tao's grenades back at him, thrown after he pretended to give up.

The End of the Red Ribbon Army

Feeling sad for Upa who lost his father to Tao, Goku decides that he will defeat the entire Red Ribbon Army and gather the Dragon Balls to bring his father back to life. Goku travels to the main Red Ribbon Army Headquarters to defeat them. While Goku is taking out several of the soldiers, Staff Officer Black kills Commander Red after learning that he just wants to be tall and not achieve world domination. Goku fights Black who uses a battle robot, Goku kills him defeating the entire army and gathering six of the Dragon Balls. When Goku leaves the base he sees all of his friends just outside of it ready to help him, but Goku tells them he already destroyed the entire base, greatly surprising everyone.

Baba's Tournament

After Goku's victory against the Red Ribbon Army he is still missing one more Dragon Ball to revive Bora, but for some reason Bulma's Dragon Radar cannot locate it. Roshi tells Goku about his older sister Baba who can find anything. Goku sets out to Fortuneteller Baba's Palace with Yamcha, Krillin, Upa and Puar. Baba turns out to not be so generous, forcing them to fight her five strongest warriors to get their request. The first two warriors are taken care of by Goku's friends, but Yamcha is defeated by the third warrior, Bandages the Mummy. Goku, the team's last fighter, takes him out along with the fourth fighter, Spike the Devil Man in Devil's Toilet. After that, Goku is put up against the fifth fighter, who seems very familiar to Goku and Roshi (who had joined the group as a spectator). The mysterious fighter ruthlessly whips Goku around by his tail until it simply rips off. However, Goku is able to win the fight when his opponent gives up, and the fifth fighter is revealed to be his Grandpa Gohan, who was brought back from the Other World for a day. Baba reveals the Dragon Ball to be in a case Emperor Pilaf has. Goku confronts Pilaf in his new robot fused with Shu and Mai's robots, and easily defeats them after Pilaf had incinerated Goku's clothes to try and get his tail only to be terrified to find it had been removed. Taking Shu's clothes to replace his and with all the Dragon Balls in his power, Goku is able to call Shenron and revives Bora. After the wish is granted, Goku grabs the four-star ball before the others scatter.

Goku prepares for the next World Martial Arts Tournament by going out into the world and training himself by the request of Master Roshi. Goku ends up meeting a girl named Chao and saves her village from two bandits known as Terror and Plague. He later stumbles into a city where he meets Chin Taiken, the master of the Chin-Star School and defeats Sky Dragon, the master of the Panther-Fang School for the title of Master of Martial Arts. Goku goes to Demon Land and saves Princess Misa from Shula with the help of Gola and Melee. Goku later chases after a monster named InoShikaCho that he later finds out is working with two martial artists named Tien Shinhan and Chiaotzu in scamming villages. Goku saves InoShikaCho when Tien and Chiaotzu betray him and with the help of Tanmen, he convinces everyone that he is good. After three years are up, Goku begins his travel to Papaya Island but gets a little delayed when his new friend Konkichi gets into trouble with a gang.

King Piccolo Saga

The 22nd World Martial Arts Tournament

By the time the 22nd World Martial Arts Tournament starts, Goku is 16 years old. Goku's strongest opponent is Tien Shinhan, a warrior trained by Master Roshi's nemesis, Master Shen - the Crane Hermit.

In the preliminaries, Goku is set up against a champion from a previous World Tournament, King Chappa. Goku easily defeats him however with an attack from above.

In the quarterfinals his first opponent is a famous martial artist/ movie superstar named Pamput and then goes on to defeat Pamput, a famous movie star, who makes a flashy entry before throwing a punch halfway at Goku who doesnt flinch which Pamput takes to being that he moved too fast for Goku to realize he was in danger though Goku states it wasn't really much of a punch. Annoyed, Pamput demonstrates his power by destroying an Arenawall with an elbow strike. However when he attacks Goku again, he is seemingly knocked unconcious with a single punch though in truth, as noticed by Tien, Goku had actually hit him 3 times as an incredible speed that only he was able to keep up with.

In the semifinals Goku is set up against his best friend Krillin, who at first tries to take him with simple martial arts before realizing he can't withstand Goku's power and so went for a more strategic approach after noting Goku's tail.

Goku and Krillin's match

Krillin began charging up a Kamehameha against Goku's advice as Goku's own prowess with the skill and greater power would easily withstand it. After stopping the attack, Goku is taken by surprise when Krillin is revealed to have moved behind him and proceeds to grab his tail. As in the past when his tail was grabbed, Goku looses his strength and collapses. Due to being on the ground, the announcer begins to count down to 10 but just as it seems Krillin has victory in the bag, Goku springs to his feet and frees his tail to the shock of all. Goku reveals that during the 3 years since they last saw each other he had decided to accept Master Roshi's advice to overcome his weaknesses and so trained himself to overcome the weakness he gained from something grabbing or hitting his tail. Goku then uses speed so great that he seemingly vanishes into the wind before suddenly appearing in front of Krillin who goes flying out of bounds seemingly out of surprise but in truth Goku had again unleashed a high speed combo that, again only Tien could keep up with, that had knocked Krillin out of the ring. Goku moves on to fight Tien and his Crane School style in the final round. Midway during the match, Goku is repeatedly paralyzed and pinned down by Chiaotzu and his Telekinesis technique, at the orders of Master Shen.

After Goku is freed from Chiaotzu's Telekinesis, the match continues as normal until Tien decides to use the Tri-Beam attack to destroy the stage. In mid-air, Goku deals great damage to Tien by using a Kamehameha to swiftly propel himself into Tien's stomach. Falling at high speeds and Tien closer to the ground them himself, Goku looks like he will win the match only to suddenly be hit by a vehicle and knocked into the ground before Tien himself crashes down, leaving Tien as the Tournament winner.

King Piccolo's Quest

Right after the conclusion of the 22nd World Martial Arts Tournament, King Piccolo appears in scene. Goku accidentally left his belongings behind and when Krillin went to pick them up at the area, he is killed by Tambourine, one of King Piccolo's mutated sons. Goku becomes angry, and chases after him through the skies, but still being fatigued from the tournament, Goku is easily defeated by Tambourine and his Flying Nimbus is destroyed by an energy technique. While trying to recover in the wilderness, Goku sees a giant fish and eats it, which belonged to a samurai named Yajirobe, who has a Dragon Ball. Cymbal, another one of Piccolo's sons, is sent to get the Dragon Ball, but is killed by Yajirobe with his sword. After sensing Cymbal's death, Piccolo orders Tambourine to find his killer. Upon seeing Tambourine again, Goku finally destroys him after a one sided battle which was the opposite of their previous. King Piccolo feels this and arrives at Goku and Yajirobe's location, Yajirobe's Prairie. Soon after King Piccolo appears, he fights Goku. Goku knocks him down a couple of times. It is then revealed that Piccolo was holding back on his power, and then he swiftly defeats Goku with his Masenko attack, causing Goku's heart to stop for a short time. Piccolo then takes the Dragon Ball Yajirobe gave to Goku. Yajirobe takes Goku to Korin Tower to help him recover.

Meanwhile, Tien, Master Roshi and Chiaotzu try to stop King Piccolo from gathering the Dragon Balls, but fail and the latter two die in the attempt. King Piccolo calls Shenron and wishes for his youth to be restored, giving him the power he once had. King Piccolo then destroys Shenron, and goes on to King Furry's palace, in an attempt to rule the world.

Once Goku is healed, he heads out on a quest to find the Ultra Divine Water, a sacred liquid that unleashes the drinker's hidden powers if they have any, or kills them. Goku drinks the water and survives with his power greatly increasing, then heads off to King Furry's castle where he finds King Piccolo's newest son, Drum assaulting Tien Shinhan. Goku steps in and defeats Drum, partially destroying his head with one kick, and challenges King Piccolo to a battle. Goku overpowers King Piccolo, even throwing him into the castle. King Piccolo eventually goes to full power, despite it shortening his life span, but still can not defeat Goku. King Piccolo fires his signature attack, the Explosive Demon Wave, at Goku, but Tien saves him by flying into the sky, but Goku's leg is broken. Towards the end of the fight, King Piccolo uses Tien as a hostage, attempting to force Goku to surrender. Goku nearly resumes the fight despite the fact that Tien will die, thinking he could revive Tien with the Dragon Balls, until King Piccolo tells him he had destroyed Shenron. This leaves Goku at King Piccolo's mercy.

Goku ends up with a broken arm and two broken legs as a result of Piccolo's onslaught. As King Piccolo takes to the skies for his final attack, Goku, full of rage over the fact that Krillin and Master Roshi are gone forever, launches himself at King Piccolo via a Kamehameha to the ground and channels the remaining energy into his fist, punching a hole through the evil Piccolo's chest and killing him. Moments before King Piccolo's death however, he manages to spit out an egg far off in the distance that contains his final son and reincarnation, Piccolo Jr. to avenge his death and spread evil across the planet.

Training in Heaven

After Goku defeats King Piccolo, he goes to Korin Tower, where Korin tells him about Kami's Lookout, and that Kami, being the one that created the Dragon Balls, may be able to revive Shenron. At Kami's Lookout Goku overcomes Mr. Popo's challenge of speed, and Kami, the Guardian of Earth, brings the Dragon Balls back by giving new life to Shenron. Using the Dragon Balls, Krillin, Chiaotzu and Master Roshi are resurrected. In return, Kami asks Goku to train with him and Mr. Popo for the 23rd World Martial Arts Tournament to defeat Piccolo Jr., who wants revenge on Goku for killing his father. Goku's training consists of defeating Mr. Popo, who proves to be stronger than King Piccolo and for Goku to face a doll version of himself as a way of conquering his own self. With deep meditation, being still like a rock, but faster than lightning, Goku endures the toughest training of his life. During or after the training, Goku's tail is permanently taken off for the third and final time by Kami, who then makes a wish to the Eternal Dragon for the return of the moon.

Piccolo Jr. Saga

Three years later, Goku, now 19, has finally grown into a body befitting his age. and participates in the next Tournament, where his rival, Piccolo was waiting for him. Goku encountered a grown-up Chi-Chi, but doesn't recognize her, which Chi-Chi became furious and stormed off. Then Goku fought the beautiful fighter, and after he defeated her, she revealed her name and reminded Goku's promise to marry her and though Goku explains it to have been a mistake on his part from his lack of knowledge, he decides to hold true to his promise and asks her to marry him. In his next match Goku fought Tien and while it seemed Goku was at the same level as their previous battle, it as proved otherwise as Goku revealed that he was wearing weighted clothing that all together weighed 100 Kilo's. With his heavy clothes removed, Goku outmatched Tien in speed and won the match despite Tien's quadruplication technique which Goku exposed the weakness of having divided Tien's strength by 4. Then Goku came face to face with Piccolo in the finals and fought a battle that destroyed the ring and devastated the island.

Despite Piccolo breaking all his limbs and blasting a hole through him, Goku still managed to win by catching Piccolo off guard and heavily damaging by ramming himself into him headfirst which both knocked him out cold and out of bounds. After being named world champion and taking a senzu to heal, Goku shockingly gave one to Piccolo to recover so that he and his rival could fight again one day. After turning down Kami's offer to replace him as Earth's guardian, Goku and Chi-Chi went off to get married.

Saiyan Saga

After 5 years at the age of 24, Goku is having a reunion with his old friends on Master Roshi's Island.

He takes along his four year old son, Gohan, to meet his friends. However, shortly after they arrive a strange alien with a tail arrives, revealing himself to be Goku's older brother, Raditz. He tells Goku that he is a member of a powerful, however almost extinct, alien warrior race known as the Saiyans. He tries to get Goku to join them in taking over another planet, but when Goku refuses Raditz attacks him, and takes Gohan. He tells Goku that if he wants his son back that he needs to join him and kill 100 people before the next day and pile their bodies on Roshi's island. Piccolo arrives and suggests that they work together to fight Raditz, despite their hatred of each other. Goku agrees and the two set off. They find Raditz and take their weighted clothing off, which, Raditz notes, raises their power levels. After a while of neither Goku or Piccolo hitting Raditz, Raditz fires two beats, one at Goku, which misses, and one at Piccolo, which destroys one of his arms. Piccolo tells him that he has a powerful attack he can use, but that it will take awhile to charge, Goku fights to hold Raditz off until then. While Raditz is distracted by Piccolo's raising power, Goku grabs his tail, make Raditz fall to the ground.

Raditz please for his life, and, despite Piccolo's warnings lets Raditz go, only to be attacked by him again. Gohan sees this, and breaks through the space pod he was trapped in and headbutts Raditz in the chest. Before Raditz can kill Gohan, Goku grabs Raditz from behind, and has Piccolo fire his attack, killing them both. Upon his death, Goku's body suddenly vanishes as Goku takes it with him due to his heroics having earned him the right to keep his body.

Kami takes Goku to Other World and asks King Yenma, a large Ogre who decides where one goes after they die, to let Goku train under King Kai. Yenma accepts, and has an ogre take Goku to the start of a one million km road called Snake Way.

Training in the Afterlife

Raditz informs Piccolo and Goku that two even more powerful Saiyans, Vegeta and Nappa are on their way to Earth, and will arrive in one year. With Krillin by his side, Goku dies, and Kami takes him to Other World where King Yemma tells Goku to take Snake Way to the planet of King Kai for additional training to defeat the Saiyans. During his journey, in filler, he encounters and escapes Princess Snake and even manages to escape Hell after accidentally falling off Snake Way. When Goku finally makes it to King Kai's planet, he mistakes King Kai's monkey, Bubbles, for the King himself, and he follows the monkey's actions until he meets the real King Kai.

He is given ridiculous challenges before he star ts his training, including having to tell King Kai a joke, catching Bubbles, and smashing his pet cricket, Gregory, on the head with a heavy hammer. Due to the planet's higher gravity, Goku struggles with the challenges, but eventually completes them. After that, Goku masters several new techniques and increases his strength considerably. His friends on Earth manage to wish him back to life using the seven Dragon Balls, but, due to a miscalculation on King Kai's part (he forgot to take into account the time it would take to get back) he still must travel back down Snake Way, which King Kai estimates will take about two days at Goku's current power level in order to reach Earth and join the battle against the Saiyans, which was already underway and going badly for the Z Fighters.

By the time Goku arrives, Yamcha had been killed by a Saibaman, Chiaotzu had self-destructed in a failed attempt to kill Nappa, Tien Shinhan had killed himself by putting all his strength into a final but futile Spirit Tri-Beam, and Piccolo had sacrificed himself to save Gohan from a powerful attack launched by Nappa, which inadvertently killed Kami as well. Goku arrives on the scene, saving Gohan from Nappa's power, and when he is informed by Krillin that everybody else has died in the battle, Goku goes in a rage, powering up, surprising Vegeta with his new power. Much to everyone's surprise, Goku had become powerful enough to defeat Nappa without much difficulty, avoiding Nappa's attacks, and taking Nappa's ultimate, the Break Cannon, head on without a problem. When Nappa goes to kill Krillin and Gohan, Goku breaks Nappa's back with the Kaio-ken technique, but Vegeta is the one who kills him at the end after believing him useless to him now. When Goku begins his battle with Vegeta, they seem even. Vegeta gains the upper hand with even the Kaio-ken times two not working. Goku, in a desperate attempt, powers up to Kaio-ken times three, and overpowers Vegeta, causing Vegeta to go in a rage and attempt to destroy the planet with a Galick Gun. Goku's Kaio-ken Kamehameha and Vegeta's Galick Gun blasts collide, and Goku beats Vegeta in the Beam Struggle by going Kaio-ken times four, however, causing his body great pain. When Vegeta returns, he transforms into a Great Ape using a Power Ball, and Goku realizes he is the one who murdered his Grandfather, and apologizes for it, hoping for forgiveness.

After a long battle, Vegeta is eventually defeated by Goku's Kaio-ken and Spirit Bomb techniques, and the timely intervention of his remaining companions Krillin, Gohan and Yajirobe. However Goku had been brutally beaten to near death, with his legs getting crushed and broken by Vegeta in his Great Ape form. After the fight, Krillin attempts to take Vegeta's life using Yajirobe's katana, but is stopped by Goku, who convinces him to spare his life to give him a second chance at changing his evil ways and hopes to have a rematch one day.

Namek Saga

Recovery and Journey to Namek

After the battle with Vegeta, Goku is severely injured, and Korin is out of Senzu Beans, so Goku has to stay behind in the hospital with Chi-Chi while Gohan, Krillin and Bulma go to planet Namek to find the Namekian Dragon Balls in order to revive their fallen friends. After a few weeks, Korin grows a new batch of beans and sends Yajirobe to give one to Goku, which heals him completely. Goku then quickly uses Dr. Brief's new spaceship, which he constructed from Goku's original Saiyan pod, to go to Namek. During his trip to Namek, the artificial gravity machine in Goku's ship he had been using to train malfunctions, causing it to create 100x earth's gravity, nearly crushing Goku. When he is finally able to gain control of the machine, however, he decides to leave it on this high setting in order to train as he feels that now that he has experienced 100x normal gravity that he must overcome it. However King Kai advises him to steer clear of Frieza, claiming that he is the strongest being in the universe, and that Goku would stand no chance against his evil might.

The Ginyu Force

Arriving on Namek, once again Goku enters a battle already in progress, this time saving Gohan, Krillin, and Vegeta from the assault of Recoome, a member of Frieza's elite fighting squad, the Ginyu Force who Goku defeats in one powerful elbow strike that breaks nearly every bone in Recoome's body. Goku then demonstrates his evolved speed as he moves so fast that to everyone it appears as if attacks are simply going through him when in fact he had been dodging and returning to his positon at high speeds. He then takes out Burter but is taken by surprise by the leader of the Force, Captain Ginyu, who has the ability to switch bodies with anyone he sees fit. Critically injuring himself, Captain Ginyu then swaps bodies with the more powerful Goku but is not able to fully control Goku's body and power as easily as he thought he would. Vegeta takes this chance to battle him, seriously injuring Goku's body. Goku manages to get his body back after intercepting a beam sent by Captain Ginyu to swap bodies with Vegeta and in a way manages to defeat Ginyu by tossing a frog into the path of Ginyu's second attempt to swap bodies with Vegeta which leaves Ginyu trapped in the body of a Namekian frog.

Battle with Frieza

Goku's body, worn out and beaten, uses a Rejuvenation Tank inside Frieza's spaceship taking several hours to heal. When he emerges he possesses an even more incredible power level of 3,000,000 because of his zenkai and is quick to go the battlefield to save his friends from Freiza. There he witnesses Vegeta meets his doom against Frieza. The battle against Frieza is furious, as he seems to be invincible as Goku uses of a combination kaioken times 20 and a Kamehameha at best only singed Frieza's hand. Even Goku's most powerful attack, a Spirit Bomb filled with energy from the planets surrounding Namek, fails to kill Frieza.

Goku's rage at Krillin's death gives him the push needed to transform into a Super Saiyan

However, when Frieza kills Krillin and critically injures Piccolo (who had been resurrected and was transported to Namek to help), Goku, in an explosion of incredible rage at Krillin's death since he can't be resurrected a second time, taps into his dormant powers and transforms into a Super Saiyan and undergoes an equal explosive increase of power as he reaches a power level of 150,000,000.. He engages in an incredible battle against the Tyrant which devastates Planet Namek which Freiza attempted to destroy in order to kill Goku but only succeeded in destroying the Planet's Core and turn it into a ticking time bomb. Freiza convinces Goku to let him transform into his 100% Full Power state with Goku allowing it in order to defeat Freiza at his best.

In the end Freiza's is no longer a serious threat as the combination of the long battles of the day as well as fighting at maximum so long have severely drained his powers reserves to where Goku calls the battle over as Freiza is no longer a challange any more and attempts to leave, telling Freiza to live with his defeat for the rest of his days and be humbled by it.

Despite saving Frieza's life, Goku is forced to seemingly kill him when he tries to kill Goku when his back is turned.

However Freiza, feeling humiliated, attacks and the battle continues until Freiza gets angry enough that his rage blinds him and he ends up bifurcated by his own attack. Barely clinging to life, but desperate to survive, Frieza begs for mercy. Goku, despite believing Freiza doesn't deserve to be forgiven or spared, giving him some of his own energy as a show of mercy and hope that Freiza could still turn away from his evil ways. Frieza's pride refuses to allow him to be beaten and saved by a Saiyan "monkey", and he uses the energy he was given to attack Goku as he was leaving the battle field.

Goku regrets the way the fight ended

Noticing the attack and overcome with anger, Goku fires an Angry Kamehameha that consumes both Frieza's attack and what remains of him in the process in a large explosion. Saddened by Freiza's inability to change for the better despite the numerous chances Goku had given him, Goku gives Freiza's location a last look of pity before continuing on. Unable to reach his ship in time and Freiza's own ship too damaged by Vegeta to function, Goku is seemingly killed in the explosion of Planet Namek though in truth had actually noticed a space pod belonging to one of the Ginyu Forces falling through the air and so simply went for it, hitting its last entered course as the destination and rocketed off into space, barely missing being caught in the explosion of Planet Namek.

His friends, who were teleported to Earth by a wish made on the Namekian Dragon Balls, believe him to be dead. However, months later, when they attempt to revive Goku and Krillin by warping them to the check-in station, they learn that Goku had survived. When they decide to transport him back to Earth, he declines, stating that he'll return later on his own.

Android Saga

Return to Earth

Two years later, at the age of 26, Goku returns to Earth where he is confronted by Trunks, the half-Saiyan son of Vegeta and Bulma from the future.

The teenage Super Saiyan had just killed both Mecha-Frieza and his father King Cold a few moments before Goku's arrival. Trunks then tests Goku's strength in battle by assaulting him furiously with his sword, which Goku knocks away multiple times with one finger (albeit charged with energy), claiming that he knew Trunks would not use his full power. Satisfied, Trunks gives Goku medicine for a heart virus that he will contract in one or two years, telling him to use it when he starts feeling the virus' effects. Future Trunks also warns him about two androids that will threaten the Earth in three years. After Future Trunks leaves Goku relates the specifics of Trunks warnings of the androids to the others before and honoring the promise with Future Trunks to keep certain parts of Future Trunks origins a secret. At the group's urgings, Goku reveals how he had survived the explosion of Namek and that he had ended up crash landing the Space Pod on Planet Yardrat, a planet that was due to be conquered by the Ginyu Force as their next mission. The Yardrats had nursed Goku back to health and then trained him, teaching him one of their most useful techniques, a teleportation Technique called Instant Transmission, before rebuilding his space pod and sending him on his way back to Earth.

Complications

Goku, Gohan and Piccolo then spend the next three years training for this new threat. However, Future Trunk's visit somehow alters the onset of the virus, so it does not manifest during those three years (six months prior to the Androids arrival), and therefore Goku does not use the medicine.

Goku seemingly has things under control in his fight with Android 19...

Three years later Goku now at age 30 appears with Gohan and Piccolo to confront the two androids, Dr. Gero (as Android 20) and Android 19, whom appear and attack a city. The Z-Fighters confront them, and Yamcha is first to be attacked, having been impaled by Dr. Gero's hand and having his energy stolen. However, he is saved by the use of a Senzu Bean, and the Z Fighters lead the two killing machines out of the city to fight.

...until the effects of the Heart Virus bring him to his knees.

Despite being a Super Saiyan, Goku is bested by Android 19 when he begins to drastically weaken from the heart disease he was warned of, which starts manifesting itself during the fight. However, Vegeta, who now is a Super Saiyan as well, manages to save Goku before he can be defeated by the androids, and, after toying with it for a bit, destroys Android 19 with ease, enjoying the battle greatly. Yamcha takes Goku to Chi-Chi to get the medicine that will save his life from the killer virus.

Goku struggles to survive the Heart Virus

Meanwhile, the rest of the Z Fighters learn from Trunks, who has returned to help them fight the androids, that history had some how been altered, and that the androids of his time, Future Android 17 and Future Android 18, had not been the ones they were fighting. Soon after, Dr. Gero states he will unleash No.17 and No.18, and he flees from the battlefield. They try to stop Dr. Gero from activating them but fail. However, once Dr. Gero activates 17 and 18, they are revealed to be unruly and kill him, and activate another android, Android 16, as well, who was solely created to be Goku's assassin.

The Room of Spirit and Time

After recovering from the virus and learning about Cell who wants Androids 17 and 18 in order to become Perfect, Goku takes Gohan, Vegeta, and Trunks to the Hyperbolic Time Chamber (Room of Spirit and Time in Japanese). After Vegeta and Trunks finish their training he takes Gohan and trains him to become a Super Saiyan. His power ascends past a Super Saiyan, to the 2nd and 3rd grade forms though he quickly realizes the forms weakness of drastically sacrificing speed for offensive power. Instead of training to unlock these forms, he and Goku decide instead to train and master the base Super Saiyan state as it overall is their best bet all around. To do so they transform into Super Saiyans for extended times outside of training and eventually get rid of the forms restless feelings of anger, making energy loss from maintaining the transformation hardly noticeable, and become capable of reaching the forms full potential and in affect become Full-Power Super Saiyans..Despite a full year having not passed the two leave the time chamber early and choose to spend the majority of their time until the Cell Games resting up instead of further training.

The Cell Games

It is revealed that at some point during their training in the Time Chamber that, Goku notices that the potential Gohan has can easily surpass Goku's own powers, especially after Gohan managed during their training to transform into an unprecedented Super Saiyan level (Super Saiyan 2) before losing consciousness during a training session, and that, if he is unable to kill Cell, Gohan will.

For the ten days until the Cell games, Goku and Gohan train for just 3 days of them and mostly relax while maintaining their Super Saiyan form the entire time. Goku also uses this time to travel to New Namek to ask Dende to be the new guardian of Earth, as Piccolo had fused with Kami in an attempt to stop Cell, and the fusion had made the Dragon Balls useless.

After Dende creates new Dragon Balls based on the old ones, Goku searches for those reactivated Dragon Balls in order to use them after they defeat Cell to correct everything Cell had put wrong. After the ten days have passed, the Z Fighters head to the Cell Games. After the supposed strongest person on Earth, Mr. Satan, is easily defeated, Goku offers to be the first Z Fighter to fight Cell, believing that he is no match for the villain and secretly wanted Gohan to be able to study Cell's fighting style abilities.

Goku combines Instant Transmission and the Kamehameha to seemingly kill Cell.

Goku finds himself almost equally matched but still at a disadvantage against a heavily suppressed Perfect Cell in every way, and cannot seem to gain the upper hand after many attempts. Even after trying the Instant Kamehameha (a combination of the Instant Transmission and Kamehameha), which destroys Perfect Cell's upper half, he watches in horror as the android regenerates easily, thanks to Piccolo's cells in his body. After getting tired and worn out, Goku suddenly decides to give up and leave the battle to Gohan, whom he is convinced has the hidden power necessary to defeat Cell. Gohan then states that Goku had been holding back, only to learn he had not, leading to the conclusion that Gohan may be stronger than Goku, who was fighting at full power. Gohan then powers up to a point where his energy eclipses even Goku's, and fights with Cell, but halfheartedly. After Gohan tells Cell that when he gets angry he gets much stronger, Cell starts to get curious and tries to force Gohan's inner powers out of him by making his children, the Cell Jrs, attack Gohan's friends and his father. All the Z fighters cannot beat the Cell Jrs, including Goku, who was worn out from his battle with Cell. After Android 16 attempted self destruct on Cell, who blasted him, 16 asks Mr. Satan to bring him (his remaining Android head) to Gohan, and he then tries to convince Gohan that fighting is sometimes needed. When Cell destroys Android 16's head, this triggers a change in Gohan, forcing him to ascend to Super Saiyan 2, a form in which he greatly surpasses Perfect Cell, even after the behemoth decides to unleash his earth-shattering Full Power and a further powered up Power Weighted form, which Gohan easily overcomes to the point of forcing him to regurgitate Android 18 because of the damage he has sustained.

Goku bids farewell to his son before he makes the ultimate sacrifice to save the Earth

When a beaten and enraged Cell tries to destroy the Earth as a last resort, Goku is forced to step in with his "Instant Transmission" technique when Cell is about to trigger his self-destruction. He teleports them both to King Kai's Planet, where he is killed by the explosion Cell caused, along with King Kai and his pets Bubbles and Gregory.

Goku's spirit gives Gohan the encouragement he needs to finally destroy Cell once and for all.

However, Cell is able to reconstruct himself as Super Perfect Cell, a trick even Cell himself did not know he had, and uses the recently learned Instant Transmission to go back to Earth. Goku then motivates Gohan from the Other World to help fuel Gohan's Kamehameha wave against the reconstructed Super Perfect Cell, which, after a lengthy beam lock, successfully obliterates him. After Cell's defeat and his friends attempt to use Shenron to try and revive him, Goku insists that he should stay dead, even though they could resurrect him, because he has attracted too many problems to Earth, like Frieza and the Red Ribbon Androids. Goku decides it will be safer for Earth if he does not return, and Earth has Gohan to protect it if needed.

Majin Saga

Afterlife Tournament

While Goku, King Kai, and his pets traveled along Snake Way, King Kai tells Goku about the Grand Kai. Goku and King Kai transport to King Yemma's palace and were given permission to go to Grand Kai's planet. Once there Goku learned that there would be an Other World Tournament which Goku wishes to enter but West Kai is against it due to believing he is unfit and like everyone else must train for a few centuries before being allowed to enter. After a race against East Kai which he wins he is allowed into the Tournament. After an ordeal with Cell, Freiza, King Cold, and the Ginyu force in hell, Goku returns to Grand Kai's planet and is welcomed by many of King Kai's powerful warriors, such as Olibu, who was once the hero of Earth. During the Tournament, Goku easily makes his way through the tournament by defeating Caterpy of the South Kai, Arqua of the East Kai, and Maraikoh of the West Kai. Goku then faces off with Pikkon in the finals.

Goku sees the weakness of Pikkon's ultimate attack and exploits it with the Warp Kamehameha to win the fight.

After a long fight, they are both disqualified on a technicality of having touched the walls of the space that the tournament was being held in at the same time and thus gone out of bounds, but the Grand Kai allows them both to train under him though after he secretly does some training himself in order to regain his former strength. Over the next seven years, while Goku is training in Other World he achieves Super Saiyan 2 and Super Saiyan 3, the latter of which boosts his power even beyond his already powerful Super Saiyan 2, but delivers an excruciating strain and immeasurable ki consumption.

Babidi's Plot

Seven years later at the chronological age of 36 (physically about 29 due to current death, having almost made back the full year of his previous death in the Room of Spirit and Time), Goku is given special permission to return to Earth for one day to participate in the 25th World Martial Arts Tournament, which he knows Gohan, Vegeta, Trunks, and his youngest son Goten, will be attending.

Upon his return he meets his second child, Goten, who had been born after his death in the Cell Games, and Videl, Gohan's "sort-of" girlfriend from his high school who is the daughter of Mr. Satan, the fraud who claimed the credit for saving the world from Cell 7 years ago. Goku was going to be set up against Vegeta in the 6th match, finally being able to settle their rivalry, but had to be postponed because Videl was beaten badly by the supposed weakling Spopovich, who, along with Yamu, is controlled by the evil wizard Babidi. While Gohan is matched up against Kibito (the assistant of the Supreme Kai, who was in the tournament as well), Spopovich and Yamu both steal Gohan's Super Saiyan 2 energy and left the tournament while all the Z Fighters in the tournament ditched the tournament to follow them to Babidi. The Supreme Kai and his assistant, Kibito, introduced themselves and informed the Z Fighters about the plans of Babidi who wishes to bring destruction and terror across the whole universe by bringing back his extremely evil monster puppet by the name of Majin Buu. They reach Babidi's ship where they are ambushed by Dabura, the powerful ruler of the Demon Realm, who kills Kibito and turns Krillin and Piccolo to stone.

Goku overloads Yakon

Goku, Gohan, Vegeta and the Supreme Kai enter Babidi's ship and they take turns defeating each of his minions on each room of the ship, their power leaving Supreme Kai in awe. Goku has to fight Yakon, who devours light energy such as Goku's super saiyan energy which makes him revert to base. Despite Yakon's ability Goku returns to Super Saiyan and continues to power up his energy, causing Yakon to explode from over-consumption and Vegeta catches a brief glimpse of Goku's super saiyan 2 power.

While Gohan is against Dabura, Vegeta complains that he can do better. When Babidi hears that, he possesses Vegeta through the evil in his heart and turns him into Majin Vegeta making him evil once again. Goku and Vegeta are both transported to a deserted landscape for them to settle their battle, while Gohan and the Supreme Kai continue on to stop Babidi.

Majin Buu's Awakening

Super Saiyan 2 Goku and Majin Vegeta, in his super saiyan 2 form, clash in a titanic earth-shattering battle which gives more than enough energy for Majin Buu's awakening. Goku ends the fight when he senses that Majin Buu has been released and pleads with Vegeta to help him defeat Majin Buu. In a false show of agreement, Vegeta knocks Goku out from behind and Vegeta eats the only Senzu Bean left and flies off to face Majin Buu alone.‎

Upon awakening, Goku could sense neither Vegeta nor Gohan anywhere and comes to the conclusion that they have been killed in the battle (when actually Gohan was narrowly saved by the badly injured Supreme Kai, and only Vegeta died in a vain attempt to try and eradicate Majin Buu). He heads to Kami's Lookout and is healed by Dende, who confirms that Vegeta sacrificed himself in an attempt to destroy Majin Buu.

After transporting everyone to the Lookout after failing to stop them from making a wish on Shenron to revive those killed by Vegeta but able to stop them from wasting the second wish, he tells the bad news to them that Gohan and Vegeta have been killed by Majin Buu. Chi-Chi faints, Bulma starts crying, and Videl refuses to believe that Gohan is dead. Goku decides to teach Trunks and Goten the Fusion Dance, which he learned from Metamorans while in Other World, so they may form one immensely powerful being that might stand a chance against Majin Buu though is met with some difficulty as Goten and Trunks blame Goku for Gohan and Vegeta's deaths but Goku manages to get them to let go of their misplaced anger and move on with the lessons.‎

After finding out that the Dragon Radar is still in West City and Majin Buu is about to cause more destruction, Goku decides to distract him while allowing Trunks to head into West City and retrieve the Dragon Radar before it is destroyed. Goku teleports to Majin Buu's location, and shows him and everyone (via Babidi's telepathy) the incredible power of the new Super Saiyan 3 form, whose energy could be sensed all the way to Supreme Kai's planet. Goku then engages in a fight with Majin Buu, whom he overpowers blow for blow.

Goku transforms into Super Saiyan 3

Amazingly, Majin Buu is still having a good time and enjoying the fight, even forcing Goku to narrowly deflect an imitated version of his own Kamehameha wave, which chips over a tenth of the Earth. After sensing Trunks has left the city, Goku suddenly drops his transformation and leaves but not before pointing out Babadi is all bark and no bite which leads to Buu killing him after Goku leaves. Unfortunately, the action of sustaining Super Saiyan 3 to briefly fight with Buu shortens Goku's time on Earth to just a couple of hours at best which greatly shortens his time to train Goten and Trunks.

After the 2 request that he teach them how to transform into Super Saiyan 3, he decides to humor them since his time is going to run out soon and makes them promise to keep trying to master the fusion dance under Piccolo's instruction before he gives them an up close view of him transforming into Super Saiyan 3, Goku uses up the last of his time and nearly collapses as he looses the transformation. He is forced to return to the Other World but not before he says farewell to his family and friends. Once Goku has returned to Other World, he learns that his son, Gohan, is not dead, but in fact on the Kai Planet, Goku teleporting there only to just miss having his head removed by Gohan practicing with The Z Sword. Gohan has been training with the legendary Z Sword, and to test its strength, the Supreme Kai summons a block of the densest metal in the universe, Kachin, as testing material. Goku throws the cube at Gohan, expecting the Z Sword to slice the block in half like a boulder he had tossed at Gohan earlier. Instead the sword snaps in half and from it emerges Old Kai, who tells them that he will fully unlock Gohan's potential with a ritual.

Battle with Super Buu

“	Wake up! Majin Buu's eaten everyone we care about! Everyone is gone, even Bulma! They've become part of Buu, they can't even die! I just thought the least we could do is put our old differences aside, just this once, and really work together. We owe that to our teammates, our families Vegeta, our friends! Look, you've always talked about our Saiyan race, how we're the last of a mighty people. Well it's time to accept we're starting a new race, one that can be just as strong, just as proud! But not if we're caught up in so much of our old birthrights to see what we have right in front of us! We've lost our old race Vegeta... let's not lose this one, too!	„

Through a crystal globe Goku sees Super Buu escape the Time Chamber and turn Krillin, Android 18, Marron, Bulma, Videl, Yamcha, Puar, Oolong, Ox King, Master Roshi and Mr. Popo into chocolate and eat them. Shocked about this, Goku watches the fight between Super Saiyan 3 Gotenks and Super Buu with much anticipation, amazed that the two boys who, alone, could only access the Super Saiyan state were able to achieve Super Saiyan 3 so quickly when fused. As Gotenks is about to finish Super Buu after a lengthy battle, he reverts to his base form and quickly defuses. Gohan awakens his full hidden potential and shares a farewell with Goku before leaving to help out. Goku watches Gohan effortlessly thrashing Buu with his newfound powers, but Super Buu escapes by self-destructing as Gohan, Goten, Trunks and Piccolo discover that Hercule, Bee and Dende are still alive. Dende explains to Piccolo that Mr. Popo threw him off the Lookout in order to save the Dragon Balls and Buu arrives again and challenges Gotenks which Gohan refuses to allow until Goten and Trunks suddenly fuse into Super Saiyan 3 Gotenks who is quickly absorbed along with Piccolo into Super Buu who experiences an explosive increase in both power and intellect.

When Gohan fails due to Super Buu's stolen powers, Old Kai gives his life to Goku so that he may return to Earth to help Gohan. He is also given the Potara Earrings so that he can fuse with Gohan, creating an unmatched warrior that the Kai said would easily murder Buu without even the need to transform. He arrives, much to the surprise of Gohan and Super Buu, and tosses the earring to Gohan. Gohan misses for the grab, and Goku tells Gohan to hurry and find the earring. He stalls Super Buu, fighting as a Super Saiyan 3. After the fight, Gotenks defuses inside Super Buu, and his power drops to almost 1/3 of his original power. Goku states that he is not much of a threat anymore, and realizes that they can beat Super Buu easily. However, Gohan is absorbed when Super Buu catches him off-guard. At this moment of despair Vegeta appears on Earth, having been given one day on Earth like Goku had in excahnge for helping to defeat Super Buu. Goku teleports there and convinces his stubborn rival to fuse with him after informing him Trunks had been absorbed by Super Buu. Two of the most powerful remaining Saiyans fuse to become Vegito, the strongest fighter ever seen by Earth at that point.

Vegito easily thrashes Super Buu, even with Gohan absorbed and doing so with Vegito in his normal state and only widens the gap even further when he turns super saiyan. Super Buu tries every technique and attack he has got from his absorbed victims, but Vegito manages to dodge by all of them without much trouble. After a lengthy fight of being turned into candy and even then overpowering him, the mighty Vegito wins easily. However, supposedly due to Vegeta's arrogance in not simply finishing Buu off, Vegito is absorbed by Super Buu, with a Saiyan Shield protecting him. However, it is later revealed that he chose to be absorbed on purpose because he wanted to rescue his friends and family before killing Super Buu. Inside Buu, Vegito suddenly separates into the two Saiyans due to at the time what seemed to be the properties of Super Buu's digestive system but in Dragon Ball super would be revealed to be from a time limit of 1 hour which existed because Goku and Vegeta were not Supreme Kai's when they used the earrings.

While in the stomach, Goku is attacked by enzymes that quickly cover his body, making him sticky and burning him in pain. While Goku struggle to get enzymes off, a roundworm shows up. Goku is almost eaten by the roundworm until he finally blasts the enzymes off his body and they then encounter the worms brother and then their father who inform them of the direction their family and Piccolo had gone. After traveling through Super Buu's body, Goku and Vegeta reach Super Buu's brain where they find Gohan, Trunks, Goten, and Piccolo, unconscious but still alive. After freeing them and having to fight Super Buu inside his own body, Vegeta decides to remove the unconscious fat Majin Buu from Super Buu. Despite pleas from Super Buu, Vegeta pulls the fat Majin Buu free and Super Buu's body begins changing as a result. Goku and Vegeta then escape from Super Buu's body with the newly rescued Z Fighters and bear witness to Super Buu's power increasing instead of decreasing as he first buffs up before suddenly shrinking into a much smaller form, Kid Buu.

Kid Buu Saga

The Earth is destroyed

Kid Buu's first act of villainy is to suddenly fire a energy blast at the planet strong enough to destroy it. Though Vegeta deflects it, Kid Buu creates a much larger one they can't hope to stop that's powerful enough to destroy the planet 10 times. Goku quicly decides to grab their sons and Piccolo and escape using Instant Transmission but on the way to them spots Dende, Hercule, and Bee nearby and rescues them but because of that he is unable to rescue Gohan and the others. Goku tries to teleport them away but can't concentrate, luckily Kibito Kai appears and teleports them away to the Supreme Kai planet just before the Earth explodes and kills Gohan, Goten, Trunks, and Piccolo.

When Kid Buu begins destroying planet after planet searching for them and ends up on Grand Kai's world, Goku and Vegeta raise their power levels high enough for him to sense and teleport to their location. Dende, Old Kai, and Kibiti Kai teleport away but realize they forgot Hercule and Bee who are still on Supreme Kai's planet.finds them. Vegeta and Goku have a Rock-Paper-Scissors match to see who fights first with Goku winning and thus getting to fight first. In the Anime, he starts the fight as a Super Saiyan 2, but eventually transforms into Super Saiyan 3. When he is a Super Saiyan 3, he fights evenly with Kid Buu for a short time, taking the advantage often. However, Goku had failed to account for the strain that fighting in a living body would have on him in the already straining Super Saiyan 3 form, and soon becomes exhausted. He attempts to gather up his strength while Vegeta distracts Buu in his Super Saiyan 2 form (getting mercilessly beaten in the process), but his Super Saiyan 3 transformation drains him of his energy reserves too fast and he soon loses the ability to maintain the form.

After Kid Buu spits out the Original Majin Buu, Vegeta tells Dende to summon the Namekian Dragon and gives him two wishes, restore the Earth and reviving everyone who has died since Babidi's arrival except for the evil ones. Goku becomes glad that Vegeta's halo is gone too, saying that he is a good guy. With Earth and everyone on it revived, Goku asks Vegeta if he can bring, Gohan, Goten, Trunks and Piccolo to the Sacred World of the Kais in order to help out and fight Kid Buu, but Vegeta tells him no and tells Goku that it is time to start the Spirit Bomb which he would make from the energy of all those on Earth, saying Earth needs to save itself for once.

Goku hopes to fight Kid Buu again one day when he's a better person

Using King Kai's telepathy, Vegeta speaks to the newly revived people of Earth and begs for everyone to donate power to Goku's Spirit Bomb, which they are hesitant to do. Goku's friends and family along with everyone on New Namek and the Other World give energy for the Spirit Bomb. Meanwhile, Fat Majin Buu, while trying to hold off Kid Buu, falls in battle leaving a battered Vegeta to protect Goku while he continues forming the Spirit Bomb. Eventually, Hercule has had enough of hearing humanities ignorant indifference and yells at them, making them believe Hercule is fighting Majin Buu instead which he pretends to say is true so that they will all give their energy to Goku. With the contribution of power from Earth, Goku launches the Super Spirit Bomb. But as impossible as it seems, Kid Buu actually stops the Spirit Bomb and slowly begins to push it back at Goku who Vegeta realizes is completely out of power and thus can't complete the attack.Using the last wish from the Namekian Dragon, Dende wishes for Goku's power to be restored.

With his power restored, Goku powers up the Super Spirit Bomb even more, transforms into a Super Saiyan, and regains control of the attack. After several moments reflecting over the events that led to this moment, Goku makes one last wish to himself, that Kid Buu be reborn as a good person so they can fight again one day one on one. With the blessing of Earth's residents, Goku destroys Kid Buu before regrouping with Vegeta who share's a thumbs up with him at their victory, cementing their newfound friendship.

Hercule discovers that Majin Buu survived and begs Dende to heal him and, despite Vegeta's arguements, Goku asks Dende to comply this Majin Buu helped them out against Kid Buu and thus was now a good guy. After they all return to the lookout, Goku apologizes to everybody that he was gone for so long, but Old Kai granted him a life as Chi-Chi asks if they are going to become a family of four and Goku eventually says yes as Chi-Chi breaks down crying and Goku comforts her.

Yo! Son Goku and His Friends Return!!

Goku'd rather continue training than being a radish farmer

Two years after Kid Buu's defeat, Goku becomes a radish farmer. Goku questions why he is working when his family is supported by Hercule, but Chi-Chi says that he must do hard work like a "normal" human. Goku's family is invited by Hercule to come to the opening of his hotel. At first, Goku is reluctant to go, but when he hears he may eat as much as he wants, he goes. When he gets to the hotel, he first has a little food competition with Vegeta, later when they are eating they sense two beings heading for earth, as a result Goku and the others go and check it out. They turn out to be Gure and Tarble, the younger brother of Vegeta, Tarble tells them two strong enemies and former servant's of Frieza are coming to Earth. Goku wants to fight them, but then the other fighters show that they want to fight too.

They then begin to argue until they agree to pick radishes; a game that declares the one with the longest radish as the winner, this turns out to be Trunks. When they go back to the hotel, Abo and Cado arrive. After noticing it's two on one, Goku tells Goten that he may help Trunks with his fight. Goten and Trunks easily defeat Abo and Cado, so Abo and Cado merge into Aka. Because of this, Goten and Trunks decide to fuse into Gotenks to even the match. After a short fight, Aka starts to overpower Gotenks with strong attacks. When Gotenks can not handle it anymore, Goku and Vegeta intervene after Aka launches an energy attack. Goku plays a "dirty trick" on Vegeta, so he can deal the finishing blow and then goes Super Saiyan to do a Kamehameha on the energy attack Aka launched and dissipates it. After that, Goku punches Aka in the gut, thus making Aka split up and lose.

Afterward, they resume the banquet, this time with the addition of Abo and Cado eating Goku's radish. As they eat and steal food off the other's plate, Goku and Vegeta begin to argue and turn Super Saiyan.

Battle of Gods Saga

Goku the Farmer

2 years after Goku is still working as a radish farmer in order to gain money by Chi-Chi's demand. One day, Goku hears that King Kai is wishing back his planet. On Snake Way, Porunga is summoned with the help of Grand Elder Moori. King Kai wants his planet to be bigger with less gravity and a race track but before he could speak, Goku interrupts him and tells Porunga to make his planet the same it was previous because it is good for his training. After the wish is made and King Kai's planet has returned as it was before Cell destroyed it, Goku says he has to get home to do farm work quickly before Chi-Chi yells at him so he says bids him farewell to King Kai.

Some time later, while working the radish field, Goten appears with lunch for Goku and Goku tells Goten to work the tractor while he eats. After he was finished eating, Goku sneaks in some training as a Super Saiyan. While training, he imagines fighting Frieza, Cell, and Majin Buu but this causes Goten to fall off the mountainside after paying more attention to his father then where he was driving. Goku quickly notices and uses Instant Transmission to save the tractor and Goten.

Time to train

Later Hercule arrives to offer Goku 100 million Zeni, which Goku gives to Chi-chi and after this is allowed to finally resume his training and so Goku departs for King Kai's planet where he appears in front of King Kai as he is driving his car and makes him swerve into his house. After eating and rebuilding the house, Goku begins training after changing into a blue and white tracksuit.

While training, Goku hears his name in a conversation between King Kai and the Supreme Kai's to keep Goku away from the God of Destruction Beerus. After being successfully distracted by Kais' conversation, Goku continues his training until realizing he was missing Bulma's birthday party and gets scared of what she would do to him. Despite King Kai urging him to go to the party immediately, Goku stays and ends up hearing about Beerus who interests Goku so much that he wishes to meet him which soon comes true when Beerus comes to the planet looking for him. After being asked about Super Saiyan God and having no knowledge of it, Goku asks to have a battle with Beerus who accepts in order to see the power of Super Saiyan.

God vs God

Goku at first is rather overconfident in his own abilities until Beerus ends up manhandling him through all his super saiyan forms with no serious effort and finally fells Super Saiyan 3 Goku with two blows. After taking a senzu bean and healing Goku follows Beerus to Earth where he, secretly from afar, watches Beerus fight his friends and then makes his presence known after getting the idea to ask Shenron about Super Saiyan God. After learning that no Super Saiyan God exists but can be created through a ritual with good hearted saiyans infusing their power into another, the saiyans attempt this but fail due to having the number wrong as 5 need to infuse their power into another, meaning they needed 6 saiyans and thus needed one more which came in the form of Goku's unborn grandchild within Gohan's wife Videl.

After successfully undergoing the ritual, Goku transforms into the powerful Super Saiyan God form and proceeds to do battle with Beerus which is much more even than their last bout and is both intense and yet comical and goes from West City and up high into the atmosphere. Eventually Goku's God Form proves temporary and he reverts to Super Saiyan but has hardly weakened as he has absorbed some of his God Form's power into himself. Goku continues the battle against Beerus who at first underestimates Goku since he is no longer in his god form but realizes his mistake and praises Goku's capabilities as a fighter and he begins to fight more seriously. Eventually an exhausted Goku accepts his defeat before plummeting to Earth where Vegeta catches him and Beerus prepares to destroy the planet but falls asleep so Whis takes Beerus home. In the resulting celebration Piccolo reveals Goku had arrived earlier than they thought back when Beerus was beating everyone and so Bulma punishes him with a series of slaps.

Resurrection F Saga

Back to the Farm

Goku punches Krillin in the face full power

Goku wants to train on King Kai's planet but he has to continue farming because Chi-Chi used the 100 million zeni on Goten's education and supporting their future granddaughter. After the tractor breaks down Goku goes to west city to get bulma's help but she isnt home. He stumbles onto Hercule about to fight an alien warrior who wish to test the skills of the one who defeated Beerus to which Hercule claimed himself to be. Hercule volunteers Goku to fight though Goku spots Chi-Chi nearby so he quickly flees as he was supposed to be working and not fighting. That night Goku even though its time for Dinner Goku is afraid to enter the house as he is afraid of Chi-Chi getting mad. While farming Krillin comes to see Goku and they nostalgically talk about their time years ago when they trained under Master Roshi as children and when they had been closer in strength to each other. Suddenly Krillin requests to experience Goku's present strength and so wants Goku to punch him with his full power. Reluctently Goku does so and sends Krillin flying through buildings and across the land into a boulder. While Krillin gets treated, Goku sneaks in some training time. Six months later, after his grand daughter Pan has been born, Goku is called in to get Chi-Chi under control after she's become over protective of Pan. However he is distracted by Bulma saying Whis is training Vegeta and Goku also wishes to train under Whis. Despite Bulma saying Whis won't come by Earth for another month, Goku impatiently bothers her to ask if Whis is there yet. Once Whis is on planet, Goku uses instant transmission to get there to ask for training which begins to annoy Whis who is there to eat. Chi-Chi appears to stop Goku from training with Whis but Goku can't help himself and so grabs onto Whis at the last second as he's leaving Earth and Goku goes along for the ride.

God Training

Goku and Vegeta spar with Whis

Upon reaching Beerus's planet Goku is ready to get started and believes he is getting immediatelly only for Vegeta to reveal that he's doing chores instead of training which comes later. Once they finalized their chores, they began training with Whis where Goku receives a new Gi made by Whis. Goku and Vegeta used weights to train and both had to carry their weight and travel along a path before they get lost in another dimension if they fall off while the path would vanish behind them to force them to move. Later Goku and Vegeta spar with Whis who reveals Goku's weakness is he's too calm in his fights and could lead him to fail in the end. One day while exchanging blows under Whis's instruction to raise their ki just inside their body, they collide fists and briefly experience a new power-up but only briefly. After their training begins to lack progress, Whis tosses them into a dimension like that of the Time Chamber though filled with God Ki which helps them realize Whis's lesson of controlling their own God Ki just so they could move in the dimension and they begin to spar though are eventually stopped when Whis retrieves them since he needed his staff back in order to serve Beerus. Before they can resume their training Whis notices he's missed a call from Bulma who reveals that Frieza's back and is on Earth.

Rematch with Frieza

Using Instant Transmission, Goku teleport himself and Vegeta back to Earth in time to save Gohan from Frieza's Death Beam. After promising Gohan to resurrect the again slain Piccolo, Goku teleport Piccolo's body to the look out before returning to confront Frieza. Though Vegeta wants to fight Frieza first, Goku wants to go first since Frieza's is there for him and that Vegeta already fought and defeated the returned Captain Ginyu who had swapped bodies with one of Frieza's men.

Goku battles Frieza

Despite Frieza's incredible powerup since their last battle on Namek, Goku is unconcerned even when Frieza's transforms into his Final Form and becomes even stronger and claims that he won't need to transform into a Super Saiyan to fight him. In the resulting battle his words prove true as Frieza is unable to land any serious blows while Goku dominates the fight. After Vegeta impatiently interrupts the match so as to get his turn with Frieza, Goku asks him to wait a little longer. After that Goku suggests they both unleash their true power as Goku has noticed Frieza is holding back.

Goku hits Frieza with a One-Inch punch

Goku goes first and transforms into Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan (Super Saiyan Blue) and explains the form as best he can to Frieza who transforms into Golden Frieza. Goku realizes Golden Frieza is both stronger than he though as well as stronger than him as a Super Saiyan Blue but want to continue the fight anyway. In the battle Goku takes a mighty beaten from Golden Frieza but still refuses to stop the fight Vegeta want's to swap places but Goku doesn't want to and says Vegeta is wants to swap because he's also noticed Golden Frieza's weakness which Frieza believes is a joke. However the tides turn as Goku begins to be suddenly too much for Frieza who can't understand the sudden change. Goku explains that Frieza is inexperienced with his new form and failed to learn how to properly maintain it and so is burning through his energy reserves faster than he can supply which has caught up to him. Frieza doesn't believe it and continues the battle but Goku easily beats him. Goku tells him to leave Earth and that he will be glad to have a rematch with him once he's mastered his Golden Form but as he detransforms Goku is caught off guard with a energy blast through his chest by one of Frieza's henchman.

One Chance

Goku destroys Frieza once and for all

Frieza mercilessly begins beating the critically injured Goku until stopped by Vegeta who decides to take his turn and orders Krillin to give Goku a senzu to heal. Frieza tries to interfere with an energy blast but Vegeta redirects it to Frieza's last henchman which gains time for Goku to take the senzu bean and heal. Happy to let Vegeta have his turn, Goku leaves for the sidelines and watches the battle until Frieza returns to his Final Form and so underhandedly destroys Planet Earth. Goku and everyone else present except for Vegeta are saved by a barrier made by Whis which saves them from the blast. Seeing the Earth destroyed for a second time, Goku curses himself for not killing Frieza when he had the chance, to which Whis question if he can do it and explains he can rewind time but explains he can only do so briefly and thus Goku would only have one chance to stop Frieza and must't hesitate. Goku accepts and so Whis rewinds time to just when Frieza detransforms to his Final Form. Goku transforms into Super Saiyan Blue and charges forward in time to stop Frieza with a Kamehameha so powerful that Frieza is obliterated without a trace, finally putting an end to him.

After reviving Piccolo with the help of Porunga, Goku attends a feast thrown by Bulma to celebrates. During the feast he approaches Vegeta and talks to him about rather they should work on planning to fight together next time but Vegeta disagrees with Goku agreeing with him.

Universe 6 Saga

Champa's Challenge

Goku returns to Beerus's Planet with Vegeta to continue training under Whis. While sparring with Vegeta, Vegeta got angry and so went Super Saiyan Blue and hits Goku with an energy blast which inturn earns his anger. Goku transforms into Super Saiyan Blue as well and argues with Vegeta that he was unfair in transforming and while they argue back and forth about the form, Goku bites his tongue while saying Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan and wishes they could call the form a different name so Whis advises to rename it Super Saiyan Blue. As punishment for both transforming, Whis makes them wear incredibly heavy space suits to wear to train. Later while Goku was training with Vegeta again and had angered Beerus, they were saved when Champa and Vados come to visit.

They settle down and have some food despite saying they would be having the usual challange and Whis explains its an alternative forced on them by him and Vados after they wound up destroying a number of planet when Beerus got first bite from their birthday cake. Whis then explains that there are 12 universes with the universes whose numbers added together equal 12 are mirror universes of each other and that Champa is both the God of Destruction of Universe 6 but is also Beerus's twin brother like Vados is Whis's sister. After Champa tries Earth food presented by Beerus and is blown away by it, he makes Vados look for the Earth 6 equivalent of Earth which is found to have been long since destroyed. Champa then challenged Beerus to a tournament between Universe 6 & Universe 7 to determine who acquires the earth of Universe 7 which excites Goku.

Piccolo is shocked he hadn't realized why their still with their wife's sooner.

After hearing the rules as well as about the Super Dragon Balls, Goku and Vegeta are charged with finding more fighters to represent Beerus in the Tournament and they end up choosing Majin Buu and Piccolo and while Beerus handles selecting the last fighter himself who he says is the strongest one he's ever faced. After Bulma leaves with Jaco into space, Goku begins discussing their strong willed wife's which Vegeta says isn't a bad thing and Goku admits to loving about Chi-Chi. For the next 3 days, Goku and Vegeta train inside the restored Time Chamber for 3 years inside, during which one days Goku wanders how strong the Universe 6 fighters will be which Vegeta assures him they will be. Vegeta then turns Super Saiyan Blue and Goku also turns Super Saiyan Blue as well, Goku realizing they can go all out in the Time Chamber since it won't break and so they enter their fighting stances from years back in their first battle before resuming their training. On the day of the tournament they show up very late and Goku apologizes but says their ready to go only to be told to go shave, shower, and put on new clothes as their old ones are worn out from training while they failed to take care of themselves hygienically while in the Time Chamber.

The Tournament Begins

As Whis transports everyone in his cube, Vegeta wonders who the mystery person in the cube is, Whis says that he's the strongest being Beerus has ever faced, Monaka. Goku greets Monaka and questions his name, which means nipples.

On the Nameless Planet, Goku is amazed at the Super Dragon Balls and notices Supreme Kai and Kibito who are seperate again but while Supreme Kai explains, Goku notices two the supreme kai of universe 6 and his attendant. Goku quickly rushes to meet them but is told that the written exam is beginning. When preparing to take the written exam, Goku recognizes a familiar face to which Vegeta exclaims is Frieza. It turns out not to be Frieza but his universe 6 counterpart Frost.

Goku notices Kyabe lacks a Saiyan tail

Goku also sees Kyabe and along with Vegeta is recognized by the warrior as Saiyans and explains that he himself is also a saiyan who comes from the saiyan race's true home world planet Salad which still exists in Universe 6 where, due to lacking the fierce internal conflict that destroyed the Universe 7 Planet Salad as well as Frieza's influence the universe 6 saiyan's instead were heroic warriors who keep peace in the universe. Goku then asks Kyabe where his tail is, to which Kyabe explains their race had tails long ago, but lost them due to evolving to which Vegeta wonders if they're still a "warrior race" since they lost their Great Ape potential. Kayabe agrees to take them to see Salad sometime before the exam begins.

Goku has difficulty damaging Botamo

After barely passing the exam with the minimum of 50%, Goku's team is already down a fighter as Majin buu failed the test so pitifully that he even couldn't spell his own name and even fell asleep. Goku goes first with his opponent being Botamo whose at first gives difficulty since he still needs to work his last meal off and so does some excercises to get back in fighting shape. He still has some trouble due to Botamo's body rejecting damage but Goku wins regardless by simply knocking his opponent over, dragging him across the ring, and then toss him out of bounds.

Goku is hit by Frost's hidden needle

His next opponent is Frost who is outmatched by Goku who tells him he should go to his final form in order to have a better chance but Frost transforms into his Assualt Form, identical to Frieza's third form, and still outclasses him and after Goku turns super saiyan which forces Frost to transform into his true final form. Even with his final form, Goku completely dominates Frost who struggles to land a blow and throws a weak punch which Goku catches only to suddenly become dizzy and get knocked out of the ring, losing the match and stunning everyone from Universe 7.

Piccolo takes over for fighting for Universe 7 and takes on Frost and fights a somewhat even battle but Piccolo suddenly becomes dizzy as well and is defeated by Frost. Jaco steps up and claims Frost is cheating and has the announcer check his arm which exposes an illegal body modification, a needle which he used to inject his opponents. Piccolo is thus made the winner and Frost is disqualified with Goku allowed back into the tournament after Beerus finds the injection mark from when Frost cheated in their bout. Before the tournament can continue the angry Vegeta steps up, makes Piccolo both reject Frost's disqualification and forfeit himself, and fights Frost himself who is near instantly defeated and knocked out of the arena's barrier by a powerful though brief assault from Vegeta.

Goku stays on the sidelines for the rest of the Tournament as Vegeta deals with all of the Universe 6 fighters except for Hit who vastly overpowers Vegeta despite Vegeta being in his Super Saiyan Blue state with Vegeta being unable to see Hit's movements at all and taking devestating attacks one after another until finally he collapses. Though it should be Monaka's turn to go next, Beerus insists Goku go before him as Monaka is their trump card and must wait. Thus Goku goes to the ring to face Hit after figuring out his abilities of using the fearsome Time-Skip.

Battle with Legendary Assassin

Goku see's through Hit's Time-Skip

When the match starts Goku doesn't transform into Super Saiyan Blue, confusing and worrying those of Universe 7 and explains he is saving the transformation for when he needs it later in their battle. Goku suddenly throws himself at Hit and is immediately countered by Time-Skip but Goku quickly recovers and again charges with similar result and repeats this a couple of times. After Hit decides to end the match, Goku suddenly manages to block one though Hit passes it off as a fluke and attacked again with his Time Skip and this time Goku draws blood from Hit and begins to go on the attack, countering Hit's time skipping ability by predicting where he is going to be, much to the annoyance of Vegeta who hadn't thought of that in his battle with Hit and realized Goku had thrown himself at Hit in order to get a feel for his fighting style in order to properly predict his movements. Hit, realizing his Time-Skip is useless is forced to fight seriously and Goku goes Super Saiyan Blue and attacks Hit, forcing him to power up and make it more difficult for Goku to counter Timeskip which has powered up as well.

.Goku, seeing that Hit is more powerful than he thought, now unveils his new technique, the Super Saiyan Blue Kaio-Ken. Goku notes the chances of him doing it is roughly 10% and failure will likely kill him and explains what Kaio-Ken is. Goku explains that combining the Kaio-ken technique with his Super Saiyan Blue form is possible due to the form's required calm mind and perfect innate ki control, and he did not attempt to combine it with the previous Super Saiyan forms because they were too rough on his body and he would have died. Goku briefly demonstrates it by moving around the Tournament and Hit being unable to follow his movements at all, much to his shock. Goku then powers it up ten times and goes on the assault, totally outclassing Hit in an incredible barrage of attacks with Goku's new power being so great that Timeskip is useless against him as it no longer has any effect. Goku notes his body is starting to give out so Goku fires a Kamehameha at Hit who manages to avoid it but Goku charges him instantly into the attack which blasts a hole through the tournament's protective barrier which is quickly repaired. Hit however survives and the fight continues.

Super Saiyan Blue Kaio-Ken Goku is beyond Hit's Time-Skip

Hit's powers have increased again and to the point that Time-Skip again affects Goku but Goku is able to keep the fight even. Goku then asks Beerus to get rid of all the tournament rules, realizing that Hit is holding himself back because of the non-killing rule, and he had a few opportunities to finish Goku off. Champa agrees, while Beerus disagrees, and they begin to argue. Wanting to fight Hit another time when Hit can go all out, Goku goes out of the ring, losing by out of bounds, and Hit is declared the winner. When Goku disperses the Kaio-ken technique, he falls into an immense amount of pain, and collapses. Beerus angrily confronts Goku, and Goku admits that Goku would have lost anyway due to the Kaio-ken's time limit, and much to the God of Destruction's annoyance, reminds him that Monaka has not fought yet. Goku, not knowing that Monaka is just a mailman hired by Beerus to keep Goku and Vegeta training hard, cheers him on, and Monaka gracefully jumps to the ring, but crashes. As the match begins, Monaka lands a soft blow on Hit, but Hit decides to repay Goku for helping him get stronger and so pretends to be hurt and launches himself out of the ring, with Monaka being declared as the winner, and Universe 7 is announced as the winner of the tournament.

Tournament Aftermath

Goku notices an angry Champa preparing to kill the Universe 6 fighters for losing. As he preapres to act, Beerus interrupts him. Things are further interrupted by the arrival of the Omni-King which sends Beerus and Champa into panic as they rush to bow to him As the Omni-King mentions that he would be interested in organizing another competition like this between all 12 universes and Goku casually tells him it would be fun, as Champa and Beerus are flustered. Goku walks closer to the Omni-King, but his attendants halt him. Goku asks to get closer to chat but they refuse him and Beerus says that the Omni-King is not one to "chat" with. The Omni-King then says it is alright, and praises Goku for his match with Hit. Omni-King says that his tournament will be soon, and Goku says he is looking forward to it, and extends his hand out to the Omni-King, which causes both Gods of Destruction to worry and then the attendants when Goku lifts the Omni-King off his feet. There is a long pause, then the Omni-King shakes his hand, and calls Goku funny. Omni-King then leaves, with Beerus and Champa sighing in relief, telling Goku that he can destroy all of the universes if he wished and has already destroyed 6 for when he was in a bad mood and that there used to be 18 universes. Goku then approaches Hit, wanting to have a rematch against him at a later time before he leaves with everyone else back for Universe 6.

It's discovered that the nameless planet is actually the final Super Dragon Ball so Whis takes everyone onto his Cube and then destroys the Nameless Planet to expose the super dragon ball within. The Super Dragon Balls levitate close to each other, and Super Shenron is summoned, causing a huge shockwave and a bright light as Super Shenron increases in size to bigger than galaxies. Super Shenron then swallows the group, revealing a number of planets, galaxies, and stars inside and Goku idiotically worries they can only get out by Super Shenron pooping them out and is promptly hit over the head by Chi-Chi for talking like that in front of the group's children. For his wish, Beerus asks Shuper Shenron to restore the Earth and human race for Universe 6, which has been granted, and Super Shenron leaves as the Super Dragon Balls are scattered across the universe. Beerus explained he wished for this so Champa would owe him one though he lies everyone that he had wished for a comfier bed so as to avoid looking weak.

Goku fights "Monaka"

After the group arrive on Beerus' planet, Goku asks Beerus for a short sparring match with Monaka, but Beerus refuses, saying that as they are both tired from the tournament, they should go home and rest. Whis then drops off the Z-Fighters back on Earth. However Goku would try again during a celebration party and Beerus repeatedly attempted to stop him but in the end had to do something to put an end to Goku's stubbornness and so he dressed up in a Monaka costume and fought Goku himself, lying that Monaka had transformed in order to explain the sudden height increase. The battle is intense and Beerus get's lost in enjoying it though the costume begins to fall apart and the secret, along with nearly the Earth, is nearly blown until Whis steps in and ends the fight. The real Monaka is seen by Goku but he idiotically believes Monaka had split himself into 2.

King Kai diagnoses Goku

Soon after, Goku begins having trouble controlling his Ki and either flys hazardously or teleports wrong with instant transmission. Upon Chi-Chi's urging Goku goes to see King Kai which is complicated since he teleports to random locations but eventually reaches there and King Kai explains it is a side effect of Super Saiyan Blue Kaio-Ken which gave Goku Delayed Onset Ki Disorder which has disrupted his ki. It's only temporary but King Kai warns him not to use the technique so carelessly again because if the disorder happens again then it could be permanent and his fighting days would be over. After Goku accidentally destroys their house, he and his family go to stay in Gohan and Videls house while their out of town and until their own house can be rebuilt, the family watching Pan while their there. Goku is worried for the majority of their visit by his Ki disorder but bonding with Pan puts him in a better mood and he tries to get her to call him grandpa.which seemingly fails until she calls him Gramps when Gohan and Videl return, making him proud.

Battle on Planet Potaufeu

Goku destroys Copy-Vegeta

After recovering from his Ki Disorder, Goku trains on King Kai's planet since Whis is off on business and he can't use Instant Transmission to get to Beerus's Planet on his own. As Goku is eating, they suddenly sense Gotenk's energy, as well as Vegeta's energy, and realizes that the two are fighting for some reason so Goku uses Instant Transmission to check out andarrives just in time to stop Copy-Vegeta can finish off Goten and Trunks. Goku, despite Copy-Vegeta's appearance, believes him to be the real Vegeta and so acts as such until the real Vegeta says he isn't and that there isn't time to explain the details and that Goku must defeat Copy-Vegeta in 3 minutes. Goku, still somewhat confused about the situation, agrees, and is excited to basically be fighting Vegeta like in the old days. The battle is very even Vegeta complicates it a couple of times to give tips to both sides, making both Goku and Copy-Vegeta wonder whose side he's on. Goku realizes he is running out of time to save Vegeta so he transforms into Super Saiyan Blue but Copy-Vegeta, possessing all of Vegeta's powers and transformations, transforms into Super Saiyan Blue as well. The battle causes much damage to the area and is very even. As Vegeta near fully disappears, the Commeson Core attacks Trunks but is destroyed when Monaka accidentally steps on the core and destroys it which visibly affects Copy-Vegeta who becomes unstable which Goku takes advantage of to unleash a God Kamehameha to destroy him which restores Vegeta.

Future Trunks Saga

Return of Trunks

Goku is discussing the ramen he ate with Vegeta, Beerus and Whis on Beerus' planet when Whis receives a distress call from Bulma on Earth, who shows Goku and Vegeta a severely injured and unconscious returned Future Trunks, having barely escaped his alternate timeline with his life. The four teleport to Earth, and Goku then teleports to Korin Tower to get some Senzu Beans. When he returns, Bulma feeds Future Trunks a Senzu Bean, and he wakes up. Hearing Goku's voice and seeing him, Future Trunks angrily attacks him, surprising everyone. Future Trunks regains his senses after Bulma slaps him, and he realizes he made it back to the past where he thought Goku was still dead, the sight of Goku's face making him believe he was seeing someone much less welcome.

Goku and Future Trunks spar

Future Trunks then explains what happened in the future, and Goku and Vegeta are shocked to hear about Goku Black, who looks the same as Goku and even refers to himself as Goku. Goku later wants Future Trunks to spar with him, asking where he stands against Goku Black, and they both transform into a Super Saiyan 2. Impressed by Future Trunks' strength, Goku then transforms into a Super Saiyan 3, which greatly shocks Future Trunks at the existance of yet a further transformation. However Future Trunks raises his power level as a Super Saiyan 2 to near Goku's as a super saiyan 3. Future Trunks then tries to attack with his sword, but Goku catches it with his fingers, and knocks Future Trunks down, defeating him.

A portal in the sky appears, and Goku Black comes out of it, who realizes who Goku is. Trunks initially gets angry and rushes to fight him but is stopped by Vegeta and Goku goes in the young Saiyan's place. Goku greets Black and wants to fight him to which Black attacks with an energy blast which drives Goku far out of the city. Regrouping Goku goes Super Saiyan 2 and goes on the offensive. Black is able to get in a few good shots but Goku totally overwhelms Black, dealing heavy damage with every strike and driving Black back into the city, shocking Vegeta, Future Trunks, Piccolo and Krillin that Goku was easily able to overwhelm Black with only a fraction of his power. Throughout the fight, Black is attempted to be called back into his world by his Time Ring, but was able to resist it until the end of the fight where he was too injured to keep fighting and was pulled back through before Goku could finish him off, but not before destroying Future Trunks' Time Machine.

Mystery of Goku Black

After Bulma brought a capsule containing the Time Machine used by Cell years ago, Bulma explains she could never figure it out but now she has the notebook of her future self to use. Goku decided to train while Cell's time machine was repaired but Whis and King Kai didn't want to train him on their planets so Goku decided to eat instead but not before telling Future Trunks to take things easy. Goku later goes with Beerus and Whis to Universe 10 because they have an idea on Black's true identity as Beerus and Whis noticed that Black's energy felt familiar and finally realized it was similar to Zamasu who was the apprentice supreme kai of Universe 10.

Zamasu is a very sore loser

Arriving in Universe 10 they meet Zamasu and his master Gowasu and Goku quickly wants to fight Zamasu but Beerus stops him. Beerus explains the situation of Goku Black possessing a time ring but Gowasu shows him that all of their time rings are present. Goku gets his match with Zamasu who underestimates him since he's a mortal but is surprised when Goku turns Super Saiyan 2. Goku notices Zamasu's ki and notes it is very similar to Goku Black's before he then overpowers the Kai who, after Goku goes to help him up, is nearly attacked though Zamasu is called of by Gowasu. Goku then leaves with Beerus and Whis hoping to fight Zamasu again some day and return to Universe 7 where Whis says the connection between Goku Black and Zamasu is unlikely.

Goku soon after finds out that the Omni-King wants to see him but tells Beerus that he can't right now because the time machine is almost repaired but Beerus insists. Whis and Goku go to Supreme Kai and asks them to teleport them to Zeno's planet. They are then greeted by a being known as the Great Priest who escorts them to the Omni-King whose happy to see Goku who he asks to be his friend and to play with Goku. Goku then says he needs to be somewhere so he promises Zeno to bring a friend for him. Goku, Whis, and Supreme Kai then leave and head back to universe 7. With the Time Machine fixed, Goku prepares to travel to the future with Vegeta and Future Trunks.

Upon arriving in the alternate future, Goku is attacked by the resistance army (mistaking him to be Goku Black), but their attacks are deflected by Future Trunks, who explains that Goku is an ally. Goku and Vegeta accompany Future Trunks when he reunites with Future Mai, the resistance army, and the surviving civilians. After Vegeta leaves them capsules of food and supplies given to him by Bulma, the three Saiyans leave to confront Goku Black who Vegeta draws to them by firing an energy blast into the air. Vegeta goes first as a Super Saiyan Blue but is easily handled by Goku Black who then transforms into Super Saiyan Rose and Goku Black defeats him. Goku then transforms himself and fights Black but is defeated after a brief scuffle and Goku is shocked to see Future Zamasu appear at Goku Black's side. Goku and Future Trunks fight the evil pair but are overwhelmed while it's discovered Future Zamasu is immortal.After Vegeta recovers who intercepts an attack of the evil pair, Goku and the others escape with the help of Future Yajirobe and they return to the past and crash land.

After recovering Goku returns to Universe 10 with Beerus and Whis and stop Zamasu from killing Gowasa and when Zamasu prepares to attack Goku he is instead killed by Beerus. Though Beerus claims that Future Zamasu shouldn't exist since he's present counterpart is dead, Goku returns to the future with Vegeta and Trunks, bringing Bulma with them, to find Future Zamasu is unaffected. Goku Black reveals his true identity; he is Zamasu from another timeline who used the Super Dragon Balls to switch bodies with Goku after seeing the power he displayed in the Universe 6 vs 7 tournament, then killing him, and using the Time Ring to travel to different timelines and causing chaos before reaching Future Trunks timeline. He killed Future Gowasu, recruited Future Zamasu, and used the Super Dragon Balls to make Future Zamasu immortal and then destroying them. He reveals that he killed every Supreme Kai, and in turn killed every God of Destruction as the two positions are life-linked. The two teams fight head-to-head again, and Goku is angry to learn that Goku Black also killed Goten and Chi-Chi from his timeline, powering up and overpowering the two by himself though he is defeated after Goku Black's power increases in response to Goku's. Future Trunks, angry at the corrupt pair for blaming him for being the cause of their monstrous crimes, assumed a new transformation and gained the power to take both on at the same time, while Goku, Vegeta and Bulma return to the present to figure out a plan.

Fight Against Zamasu

Upon Piccolo's suggestion on using the Evil Containment Wave to work around Future Zamasu's Immortality, he heads to Kame House to learn it from Master Roshi and practices the technique on Turtle and masters it within a night. Master Roshi gives him an Urn to use in the attack before he returns to the capsule Corporation to regroup with Bulma and Vegeta and once again travel to the future. Once there he takes on Future Zamasu as his opponent while Vegeta took Black as his own. However a complication arose with Black's abilities evolved again and he cut through reality and brought forth multiple clones of himself which caused a big enough distraction that Future Zamasu was able to go after Future Trunks and Bulma who attempted to use the Evil Containment Wave on him themselves using a video Bulma had taken of Piccolo explaining the technique and while Trunks eventually succeeded to mimicing the technique and getting Zamasu into the Urn, Master Roshi had forgotten to give Goku the sealing tag to prevent Zamasu from escaping. This caused Black to become concerned due to sensing the fluctuations in Zamasu's ki and so went to investigate with Goku following after with Instant Transmission and, before anyone could stop them, Goku Black and Future Zamasu used the power of the Potara to fuse into a single being, becoming Merged Zamasu.

Vegito returns stronger than ever

Goku and Vegeta then immediately engage Fused Zamasu but they are quickly beaten by the latter's incredible power. Even when Future Trunks joined the fight and Goku brough out Super Saiyan Blue Kaio-Ken, they were still fighting a battle that heavily favored Zamasu. It Seeing it as their only possible hope to beat Zamasu, Goku suggests fusing with Vegeta again like they had when fighting Super Buu after he had absorbed Gohan with Vegeta only agreeing to it after Gowasu reveals that there is a 1 hour time limit for anyone other than a Supreme Kai. Uitilizing the Potara of the Universe 7 Supreme Kai, the 2 once again fuse into Vegito who quickly transforms into Super Saiyan Blue and gains a power rivaling Merged Zamasu's. During the resulting battle it become noted that a half of Zamasu's body is mutating and breaking down, an unforseen consequence of his immortal Body fusing itself with the mortal body of Goku which is causing his immortality gained through Future Zamasu to be fade away, making him mortal with the battle with Vegito worsening his condition. After unleashing a Final Kamehameha, Zamasu is seemingly beaten though emerges from the smoke and while injured, is still very alive and so Vegito prepares to unleash another attack to end him once and for all when suddenly the fusion comes undone due to the sheer amount of power Vegeto was putting out having heavily decreased the 1 hour limit.

Despite his injuries, Zamasu is still far stronger than the 2 de-fused saiyans and so they are beaten around by Zamasu until Future Trunks arrives to rejoin the fight. As Trunks held out against Zamasu, he unconsciously gathered ki from Earth's inhabitants. Goku and Vegeta contribute their ki too, and with everyone's power channeled into his broken sword to form a blade made up of energy like a Spirit Bomb, Trunks charges at Zamasu. Unable to defend himself from Trunks's collected energy, Zamasu is run through, shocking him at being beaten by mortals before Trunks slices Zamasu in half and causing his body to fully break down and become destroyed.

However, Zamasu's essence and bodiless state somehow merges with the universe itself, killing the remaining mortals on Earth with the exception of Goku, Vegeta, Future Trunks, Bulma and Future Mai. Searching for a sensu bean, Goku finds the button Zeno gave him and so uses it to summon forth Future Zeno as their last hope. Unfortunately while Future Zeno agrees that Zamasu needs to be taken care of, he goes the extra mile of erasing all of the universes in Future Trunks timeline while Goku and the others survive by returning to the past. Almost immediately Goku returns with Trunks to the extinct future where they find an endless void with Future Zeno floating around and they take Future Zeno to the past. Afterwards, Goku goes back to Zeno's palace to fulfill his promise to bring Zeno a friend, his future counterpart. The day after, Goku and company bid farewell to Future Trunks and Future Mai as they are heading to a new timeline created by Whis' alterations with Future Trunks timeline by going a bit before Future Supreme Kai's death and telling Future Beerus of Future Zamasu's ambitions to result in his Future Beerus erasing him, recreating Future Trunks timeline back to the peaceful state it had built before Black and Zamasu's attack which would have never happened.

Peaceful World Saga

Shown after the Kid Buu Saga at the end of Dragon Ball Z but placed after the events of Dragon Ball Super, the Peaceful World Saga takes place 10 Years after the death of Kid Buu, Goku (at age 48 though physically 44) has kept up his training despite Earth being at peace for some years and as such hasn't talked to his friends such as Bulma for at least 5 years. Goku while training with Goten is visited by the Briefs and Goku reveals he and Goten will be participating in the World Tournament and that a powerful fighter will be there strong enough that Goku wishes to fight him to which Vegeta doesn't believe him since he hasn't sensed anyone strong enough and then scoffs when Goku says this person is a pure Earthling but Vegeta decides to enter the Tournament anyway with Trunks.

Goku, Vegeta, Goten, Trunks and his granddaughter, Pan go to the tournament and reunite with their friends and before the Tournament starts Goku spends time with Pan going to visit the island's attractions. When selecting the matchups, Goku gets with Buu to help out as Goku tells Vegeta that the person he told him about is the young Uub, Kid Buu's reincarnation and Goku also tells him that 10 years ago, before he destroyed Kid Buu, he made a wish for himself that Kid Buu was reborn as a good guy and then King Yemma heard about this and Goku also tells him that Uub's name is Buu spelled backwards as another link to his previous life. Goku has Buu fix the matchups so that he and Uub fight eacother in the tournament's second match when their both fresh. When their match begins Uub is struck with stage fright and thus performs incredibly poorly until Goku, using just as poor insults, riles him up enough that he is overcome with rage and fights Goku with his dorman Kid Buu powers and proves a surprising challenge.

After Goku saves Uub from falling out of bounds, he expresses his real goals for making him angry and apologizes and asks tobe Uub's martial arts teacher. Uub resists at first since his family is poor and greatly requires him to work to support them to which Goku says that Hercule will help support him and everyone else from Uub's island. After Goku says goodbye to his friend's and family, he tells Goten and Trunks to keep training as Uub will one day look to them for guidance. He then has Uub climb on his back and they leave the tournament which is canceled since they never finished their match. As they fly through the sky Goku admits his secret goal is to fight Uub when he's become a flawless fighter to which Uub agrees and they fly off into the distance.

Dragon Ball GT Timeline

Taking place in an alternate continuity to the main timeline, The GT timeline occurs in the anime only spin off Dragon Ball GT where the events of Dragon Ball super did not occur during the 10 year timeskip between Kid Buu's death and the 28th world Martial Arts Tournament and as such this version of Goku never obtained Super Saiyan God or Super Saiyan Blue and also did not train for 3 years with Vegeta in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber and as such he was physically 46 when GT began while technically being 53.

Black Star Dragonball Saga

5 years after the end of the 28th World Tournament, Goku finishes training with an older and much more powerful Uub in a sparring match within the lookout. After the spar is over Goku says Uub's training has finished under him and so Uub left the lookout for the last time. An elderly Emperor Pilaf from the first Dragonball Saga arrived on Kami's Lookout with an elderly Mai and Shi. There Emperor Pilaf found the Black Star Dragon Balls and used them to summon Ultimate Shenron so he can use his wish to take over the world until he sees Goku who is now a grown-up and Pilaf realizes that Goku is once again going to stop him from making his wish again. Pilaf ordered his assistants, Shu and Mai to fire at Goku, but Goku stopped the missiles because he was strong enough to stop them. Pilaf became so angry when he realizes that Goku is much stronger than when he was a kid, he wishes that Goku was a kid so it would be easier to destroy him, unaware that Ultimate Shenron was still listining out for Pilaf's wish. The Ultimate Shenron hears the accidental wish and grants it, turning Goku back into the age he was when they first met, 12 years old.

Mr. Popo warns Goku that Black Star Dragon Balls are very different than the regular Dragon Balls on earth, because unlike the regular Dragon Balls, The Black Star Dragon Balls are not scattered through countries and turned to stone but are scattered through the entire universe which it would be too hard to find. Goku thinks that he will be okay with staying a child and left the lookout before hearing the rest of the information abut the Black Star Dragon Balls. His family and his granddaughter, Pan were upset when they found out Goku's a kid again when he returned to them. But then, King Kai told Goku the bad news; if the Dragonballs aren't found soon, the whole world the wish was made on will be destroyed. So Goku must go on a quest to find them before it's too late and originally planned on going to search with Goten and Trunks but Pan, jealous and angry of being left out, sneaks on board and launches the ship the moment she is found by Trunks and Goku which leaves Goten behind as he had yet to board. Unable to turn the ship around to return and Pan and pick up Goten, Trunks and Goku are forced to let Pan come along with them.

Baby Saga

Goku as a Golden Great Ape

Goku as a Super Saiyan 4

Super Saiyan 4 Goku is too much for Baby Vegeta

After collecting all the Black Star Dragon Balls, the three finally return to Earth where their friends and family are acting strange. Goku discovers an alien parasite named Baby that they had encountered in space had somehow gotten to Earth and has possessed the population with Tuffle Parasites with Baby himself possessing Vegeta's body. Goku tries to confront Baby Vegeta though is overpowered and so he uses Super Saiyan 3 but is still overpowered due to complications of using Super Saiyan 3 in his child body and he is forced to stop the transformation. After Baby Vegeta seemingly destroys Goku, he is arguably saved by Kibito Kai though is also accidentally dropped into a gameshow like diminsion until he is retrieved just in time before the dimension was destroyed. While Goku is training with Old Kai and Kibito Kai, Baby Vegeta uses the Black Star Dragon Balls to wish for Planet Truffle to be restored in the skies of Earth. Uub, Goku's student and friend arrives and merges with Majin Buu to become Majuub in order to battle Baby Vegeta, but Majuub is turned into chocolate by Baby Vegeta. After Goku, got his tail back and arrives to the Truffle Planet to confront Baby Vegeta. Goku again transforms into a Super Saiyan 3 and prepares to battle Baby Vegeta, but Baby Vegeta attacks Goku and Goku discontinues the power of Super Saiyan 3 after he is still no match for the mutated tuffle. After spotting Earth up in the sky and wishing he still had the power to protect it and his friends, he suddenly undergoes seemingly a great ape transformation though instead transforms into a Golden Ape which is both more powerful and even more difficult to control and he quickly rampages through a Tuffle City. Pan arrives and tells him all the good times that they had together and at first Goku is uninterested in her until he sees her crying, the sight of which helps Goku regain himself and gain control of his Great Ape State which he condenses into a new super saiyan form of Super Saiyan 4 whose power is so great that it negates the wish of Ultimate Shenron and restores to him his adult body. After overpowering Baby with barely any effort, Baby uses a machine to make himself turn into a Golden Great Ape and he is able to control himself since Vegeta transformed but not Baby himself. Goku has a difficult time against Great Ape Baby though receives aid in the form of his freed friends and family who help him increase his powers. After Baby looses his tail he is forced out of Vegeta's shrinking body and attempts to escape in a spaceship but is destroyed by Goku blasting him into the sun with a 10x Kamehameha fired from the planet. With the Earth still due to explode from another wish on the Black Star Dragon Ball's which continued the original countdown Goku and the others manage to get everybody to Planet Truffle in a giant spaceship, but Piccolo decided to sacrifice himself when Earth explodes so as to finally be rid of the Black Star Dragon Balls. After using the Namek Dragon Balls to bring Earth back to life everything was normal for now.

Super Android 17 Saga

A year after the defeat of Baby, Goku fights in the 31st World Martial Arts Tournament, having to fight in the Junior Division with Hercule saying there is a height requirement and that he is physically a child anyway. In the finals, his opponent wins by tickling Goku while he is talking to Vegeta who tells Goku to fight him instead, resulting in Goku falling out of the ring and losing.

Some time afterwards, Goku and his family and friends are at home eating, until a badly beaten up Trunks arrives, saying he encountered Android 17, who told him to tell Goku to go to Hell to set things straight. Goku leaves for Hell, where he meets Dr. Myuu and Dr. Gero, who leave, making Goku very frustrated with no way out, until two of his most fierce enemies of the past drop by, Cell and Frieza. Goku manages to deal with both of them in his normal state. Realizing Goku's power, Cell forces out his tail and absorbs Goku. This only lasts for about ten seconds, since Goku finds his way out of Cell's body. After a fight between Goku, Cell, and Frieza, they show Goku a new technique that they learned in Hell, the Hell's Buster: they create a tornado type spin that throws Goku down to the deepest part of Hell. While there, a strange, old lady demonstrates various tortures which evidently ends by freezing Goku in a block of ice.

Meanwhile, Cell and Frieza wait to use a finishing move on Goku. Goku's end seems to have arrived until everyone realizes that the finishing move does not work on the living. Despite being frozen, Goku manages to hear their conversation. In his retaliation, he breaks free, attempts the freezing technique on Cell and Frieza, and successfully freezes them, but accidentally shatters them.

Still trapped in Hell, Goku tries to find a way to get out. He asks King Yemma to aid him, with King Yemma responding that he does not know how. Piccolo contacts King Yemma and asks him to transport him to Goku in hell. King Yemma refuses, leaving Piccolo to destroy significant portions of Other World as a means to convince him and is transported him directly to Goku where he, with Dende's help, open another gate between Hell and Earth to allow Goku to escape Hell and go directly to the battlefield.

Goku fights the newly fused Super 17 as a Super Saiyan 4 but has difficulties because of Super 17's ability to absorb energy as well as his physical strength With the help of Android 18, vengeful towards Android 17 for Krillin's death, Goku is able to defeat Super 17 with the use of the Super Dragon Fist through the android's stomach and chest after noticing that when he was absorbing energy that the android was completely open to physical attacks. Goku then finishes off the badly damaged android with a Kamehameha through the wounded Super 17's stomach, causing him to explode.

Shadow Dragon Saga

When Shenron is summoned to revive those killed by Super 17, the Dragon Balls crack and change color and a different, cigar-smoking dragon appears in his place. This Black Smoke Shenron promptly splits into seven Shadow Dragons, each with a cracked Dragon Ball in its body. Goku and his companions fight valiantly to defeat these new dragons.

Goku and Vegeta fuse into Gogeta

However, after six of the seven are defeated (Naturon, Rage, Haze, Oceanus, Eis, and Nuova) in a series of many struggles, the One-Star Dragon, Syn Shenron, absorbs the other Dragon Balls into himself, forming Omega Shenron who Goku as a Super Saiyan 4 is completely outmatched against. Vegeta arrives and surprisingly transforms himself into a Golden Great Ape with Bulma's machine before further transforming into Super Saiyan 4 as well. Goku doubts they both can defeat Omega Shenron despite Vegeta's power up though Vegeta reveals his plan to do fusion as Super Saiyan 4's. Omega Shenron tries his best to interfere but finds himself repeatedly intercepted by Goku's friends and family which gives Goku and Vegeta enough time to perform the fusion dance and become Super Saiyan 4 Gogeta who Omega Shenron is helpless against.

However, the fused warrior does not finish off the evil Shadow Dragon before the fusion wears off, having been too busy goofing off to actually finish the job and defuses the moment he decides to kill Omega Shenron. Goku and Vegeta are unable to fuse again and end up reverting to normal when Vegeta losing his tail which means he can't transform back into Super Saiyan 4. After seemingly killed by Omega's Negative Karma Ball, Goku asks the people of the planet Earth to send him their energy. The collected energy is not enough to defeat Omega Shenron, so Goku asks King Kai to help him. Energy from all over the universe is collected, creating a Universal Spirit Bomb. The Spirit Bomb is successful in destroying Omega Shenron and finally restoring the Dragon Balls to normal.

The real Shenron appears once again, saying that no more wishes will be granted for a long time. After convincing Shenron to grant one last wish and asking that all the people who were killed by Super 17 and the Shadow Dragons be revived, Goku decides to accompany the dragon and train with him. Before leaving, Goku tells Vegeta that the lives of everyone are now in his hands, passing the role of protector of the Earth and anyone in need of help, to Vegeta. After he leaves with Shenron and everyone begins to return home, Pan discovers the tattered remains og Goku's Gi which he had been wearing when he left and Vegeta tells her to treasure them dearly, implying Goku was actually killed by the Negative Karma Ball and so won't return.

Goku's goodbyes

Many people see Goku and Shenron flying through the sky with Yamcha and Phuar who were fixing their car in the desert, Tien and Chiaotzu while training over a waterfall. At his request Shenron takes him to the Kame House where Master Roshi and a ressurected Krillin are and he and Krillin have one last sparing session before Krillin surprisingly defeats Goku, likely having let Krillin win before Goku suddenly vanishes when they aren't locating. Next Goku appears in Hell where Piccolo finishes helping the ogre's deal with roudy evil spirits and he informs Piccolo that he's come to say farewell and shakes hands with him out of respect before promising that he will get Piccolo back up in Heaven where he belongs before vanishing once again. Back with shenron Goku falls asleep on the dragon's back with the dragon balls entering his body before he vanishes along with the Eternal Dragon as Shenron roars.

100 Years Later

Nearly a century after Goku said his goodbyes and left with Shenron, Goku's young great-great-grandson (or great-great-great-great- Grandson in some versions) Goku Jr, who was named after him due to being identical to him, wants to cure his grandmother Pan with the Four-Star Dragon Ball which had been left behind in the hut Goku once shared with his adoptive Grandfather. When Goku Jr finds the Dragon Ball, nothing happens and he gets angry and upset and tosses it away where it ends up at the feet of surprisingly of Goku himself who is once again an adult and lacks his tail. Goku explains to Goku Jr that there are actually 7 dragon balls and all need to be gathered in order to summon Shenron and get a wish granted. He introduces himself to Goku Jr and when trying confirm he's his Great-Great-Grandfather, he gets confused on how many greats there are supposed to be and so tells him to just call him Grandpa Goku. He admits to watching over Goku Jr's journey for the four star ball and that he is already getting pretty strong and comforts Goku Jr over his insecurities about himself such as believing he's weak and cowardly for believing his fear had caused his friend Puck to die trying save him. Just Then, a helicopter with a recovered Pan and a very alive Puck appears while Goku himself disappears. Goku's voice tells him that it wasnt the Dragonball but his courage and bravery that caused his grandmother Pan and his friend Puck to be alive and safe. After that, Goku tells Goku Jr. to keep and the Four-Star Dragon Ball as a memento of him like he had for his adoptive Grandfather Gohan when he was his age, and tells him that he is proud of him and wishes him good luck for his future adventures, reminding him to stay pure as it will protect him along the way.

Later as Pan watches the World Martial Arts Tournament as Goku Jr fights Vegeta's own young identical descendant Vegeta Jr, she catches a glimpse of a familiar face in the stands: her grandfather, Goku (who is now an adult again without his tail). When she tries to approach him, however, he has disappeared and she assumes she had imagined his presence. Outside the arena Goku walks through the crowd recalling his numerous adventures since Bulma had found him in on Mount Paozu 140 years ago. Although the Earth is at last at peace, if evil ever shows it's face again, Goku will always be there to stand up to the darkness, protect the innocent and everything that is good and true. Goku then flies into the air, grabs his Power Pole, and calls for the Flying Nimbus. He then finally zooms off into the distance while happily yelling one final farewell to the audience, "Until we meet again you guys!", with that the epic tale of Dragon Ball finally comes to a close.
