Heroine Overview

Fionna Campbell (previously spelled Fiona), also known as Fionna the Human, is a minor character of the Cartoon Network animated series Adventure Time and one of the two titular main protagonists (alongside Cake) of its spin-off sequel, Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake.

She was voiced by Madeleine Martin. In the Japanese dub from the series, she was voiced by Tomoe Hanba.

Overview[]

She was previously an in-universe fictional character and the gender-swapped version of Finn who was created by the Ice King in his fanfiction from a strange red glowing inspiration during Ice King's sleep. She and the other gender-swapped characters appeared occasionally in their own segment of the show. Ice King had fantasized about one day making her real and marrying her. She was created by series character designer Natasha Allegri in a series of web comics and drawings. She and the other gender-swapped characters appeared in the season three episode "Fionna and Cake" and would appear again in the season five episode "Bad Little Boy." She is usually seen in the company of her own stretchy companion: Cake. Fionna's enemy is the Ice Queen. Like Finn had a crush on Princess Bubblegum, it is revealed in many portraits posted that Fionna had a crush on Prince Gumball. Just as Finn is "all about" things, she claims she is "all about" swords when given the crystal sword. Also, Fionna is strong enough to lift and hold Prince Gumball, similar to how Finn could lift up Princess Bubblegum.

Origin[]

Teenage human adventurer Fionna lives in the Land of Ooo with her best friend Cake. She often raids dungeons, battles the evil Ice Queen, and hangs with Prince Gumball, the vampire king Marshall Lee, and the Flame Prince. She was created by Prismo, along with her universe, and inserted into the mind of the Ice King (as Prismo is not allowed to created things for himself).

After Golb reverted Ice King back into Simon, Fionna's world lost its magic which transformed the Land of Ooo into a non-magical city reminiscent of the nineties/early naughties. Memories of when the world was magical were lost to its inhabitants and magical beings were converted into ordinary humans (or in Cake's case, an ordinary cat).

Appearance[]

Fiona is the gender swapped version of Finn from Ice King's fan fiction. Like Finn, she has a light skin complexion and blond hair. She also wears blue clothing, white sock, white bunny hat and green backpack. She initially wore a skirt but was given a pair of shorts by Prismo for better mobility.

For the Sweet Biennial Dance, Cake made her a white dress with yellow details and a pink bow at the waist. Originally, she wore shorts instead of a skirt, as seen in the storyboard. In the comic she wears pajamas just like Finn's.

In "Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake", she wore a white and brown uniform for her job as a bus guide and a name badge. Later from "Destiny" she begins to wear her classic clothes, but they are torn and she takes off her shirt after getting mouse blood on it, revealing a black sports bra and she stays in this appearance for the rest of the show. series. It can be seen that she has noticeable curves on her hips and also uses weapons such as swords for her adventure, in addition to the fact that she puts on metal knee pads and shoulder pads for her adventure.

In "The Star", she begins wearing the jacket of the late Martin (who died saving Fionna's life) in memory of her.

Personality[]

Fionna is a girl who is confident with what she does, she knows who she is and doesn't wait to be noticed, she knows what she wants when she wants it and sees it coming. In "Adventure Time with Fionna and Cake", she shows interest in Prince Bubblegum, blushing at him when he asks her out; after the events with the Ice Queen, she decides not to go out with him. From then on, she is not very interested in having a boyfriend, showing her rejection of Marshall Lee and the Lumpy Prince in her next appearances.

Like Finn, she is responsible for saving princes and citizens who find themselves in bad situations, fighting the Ice Queen on several occasions. Even though she is calm, she can get angry easily. Until now, her deepest fears have not been shown, making her appear very angry.

In "Adventure Time: With Fionna and Cake" she lives stressed and tired of living a boring life, working every day and constantly losing her jobs, and living in a very messy way in her apartment. She wants her life to be more magical and fantasizes about the great Ice Prince. Despite hating her job and much of her life, she is happy along with her friends Gary and Marshall Lee, as well as her cat Cake.

Upon landing in the Land of Ooo, she was excited to be in a magical world and longed to explore. Despite losing memories of her previous life, Fionna still retains her love of adventure and finds it natural. She also has a strong attachment to having free will, as she didn't really like the idea of having to return to her reality while she still lacked magic. After seeing what her world was like before, she became excited and wanted to recapture that wonder by traveling on an adventure. During her interactions with Simon it is shown that Fionna is a romantic at heart and seems genuinely captivated by her account of how he and Betty met and fell in love with her.

Like her male counterpart, Fionna is not without her flaws. While she retains Finn's heroic spirit and her desire to help others, like Finn, she can be somewhat self-centered, deeply short-sighted, and at times irresponsible, which seems exacerbated or a result of depression and lack of direction. her. her after being stripped of her original purpose and trapped in a mundane life. In such a state, she seems primarily concerned with her own problems and, as a result, she can be somewhat dismissive and apathetic toward others. During a discussion about dreams and the meaning behind them, she ignores everyone else's dreams except her own, emphasizing that only her dreams have any significant meaning to them. According to Gary and Marshall Lee, Fionna has a history of flaking on others and disappearing for periods of time, and it appears that Fionna frequently takes advantage of both of them. However, unlike Finn, she is often very ill-equipped in combat and self-defense, as she has never been taught how to do so.

While traveling through the multiverse, Fionna initially viewed each universe and its inhabitants as a video game, and she seemed completely indifferent to the impact her actions could have on them. She was also quite dismissive of Simon's advice and struggled to get to know him better. Her enthusiasm for her adventure leads her to be extremely reckless and easily manipulated, leading her to cause damage throughout the multiverse and kill several people, which eventually haunts her. After being tricked by the Winter King into hurting innocent people and discovering that she is actually ill-equipped when it comes to adventure, Fionna begins to spiral into shame and self-doubt, which only gets worse after reaching the Vampire Universe and getting someone killed. due to her recklessness, and even more so after accidentally stranding her, Cake, and Simon in the Extinct Universe during a fight with Cake. The accumulation of these traumatic events leaves Fionna seemingly traumatized and deeply guilty, leading her to make more reckless decisions, although more out of fear than carelessness.

However, like most versions of Finn, she is primarily driven by her kindness and desire to protect others, shown when she desperately tries to protect Cake from the Vampire King and when she hides the Ice Crown to protect her. Simon from being cursed again after her. she appreciates Simon's trauma, showing that she was willing to sacrifice her own happiness and existence for Simon's sake. He later insists that Simon not wear the crown even in the face of total annihilation at the hands of the Beetle, and declares his desire to fight for his world as it is, showing how much he wishes to be a force for good, rather than simply being a hero for the sake of glory or violence. At this moment she shows the ability to intro

Trivia[]

  • Her name was officially changed from "Fiona" to "Fionna," presumably to make it more similar to Finn's name. The pronunciation, however, has remained unchanged.
  • Like Finn had a crush on Princess Bubbblegum, it is revealed in many portraits posted that Fionna had a crush on Prince Gumball.
  • Fionna has buck teeth like a rabbit. Coincidently, she has a rabbit hat.
  • Revealed on Natasha Allegri's formspring account, the dress she designed for Fionna is based off Princess Serenity's dress from the anime, Sailor Moon. This may also be the inspiration for Fionna's rabbit-themed hood, as Sailor Moon's main character is named "Usagi", which is Japanese for "rabbit." Usagi, or Sailor Moon, also has a talking feline companion named Luna.
  • A skull that has a hat similar to hers is shown in "Beautopia" shown above the decaying corpse of a cat.
  • When Fionna is talking to Prince Gumball she states "not that I'm thinking about butts," which could be a reference to Finn's butt ridden imagination zone in "Rainy Day Daydream."
  • She is called tomboy by Ice Queen, which is true.
  • She was mentioned along with Cake by the Ice King in the episode "King Worm."
  • In the Fionna and Cake series, it has been hinted Fionna might have had a crush on Flame Prince prior to their world becoming seemingly devoid of magic. In the non-magical world, Fionna was shown to have had a relationship with DJ Flame, Flame Prince's human counterpart, but he eventually broke up with her via phone text.
