Was that the Boogeyman?
~ Laurie to Sam Loomis in Halloween.

Laurie Strode, (born Cynthia Myers in the 4-5-6 and H20 timelines, and Angel Myers in the remake timeline), is the main protagonist of the Halloween franchise.

She was portrayed by Jamie Lee Curtis in the primary/original timeline and Nichole Drucker as a child in Halloween 2. In the Rob Zombie remake, she is portrayed by Scout Taylor-Compton as a teenager, and Sydnie Pitzer, Myla Pitzer, and Stella Altman as infants.

Jamie Lee Curtis's performance as Laurie has been compared to Sandra Peabody's performance as Mari Collingwood in The Last House on the Left (1972) and Marilyn Burns's performance as Sally Hardesty in The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974).

She was Michael Myers' sister in the original timeline and the remake timeline. This is no longer true in the 2018 timeline, as the first film is only canon for the new film.

History[]

4-5-6 Timeline[]

Halloween (1978)[]

Laurie is a teenage girl who is friends with Annie Brackett and Lynda Van Der Klok. On October 31, 1978, Laurie is to babysit Tommy Doyle, and later Lindsey Wallace after Annie dropped her off to Tommy's house to have sex with her boyfriend Paul. While she was babysitting, Laurie walks to the Wallace house to see how things were, and she soon sees the dead bodies of her friends, Annie, Lynda and Bob Simms. She soon gets attacked by Michael Myers and he tries to kill her, but failed as Laurie fights back by attacking him with various weapons. Michael soon gets back up and strangles her, but he gets shot six times by Dr. Samuel Loomis, who investigated the house, making him fall off the balcony, but survives the shots and gets up and walks away.

Halloween II (1981)[]

Laurie gets taken to Haddonfield Memorial Hospital after her encounter with Michael. The film explains why Michael is after Laurie as she is Michael's sister. Michael finds Laurie at the hospital and kills many staff members and tries to kill her next. In the end, Laurie shoots Michael in the eyes twice and Loomis blows himself and Michael up in a gas-filled room, and Michael collapses on the floor engulfed in flames.

Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers[]

Laurie dies in a car accident, but had a daughter named Jamie Lloyd. She was seen in a picture by Jamie, and later, Michael Myers.

H20 Timeline[]

Halloween H20: 20 Years Later[]

It was revealed that Laurie faked her death and has taken the new identity of "Keri Tate", now living in California as a schoolteacher with her son, John Tate. Laurie is traumatized by the events of 1978, but soon meets Michael again after 20 years. Laurie faces off against Michael and finally defeats him by decapitating him as he is pinned to a tree while she was driving.

Halloween: Resurrection[]

Laurie is now placed in a mental institution, as it is revealed that the person she decapitated wasn't Michael, but a paramedic that Michael swapped outfits with. Laurie subdues Michael on the roof by setting up a trap for him leaving him dangling on the roof. Michael then pulls Laurie off the roof and stabs her, finally killing her as she falls to the ground below.

In other media[]

You never know what really matters in life until you've realised it might end soon. Laurie is one of those who just wants a quiet life in the suburbs, hanging out with friends, family and maybe go on a date or two. Laurie is a typical teenager. You could pass her on the street and not think twice. She does her homework and is liked by her friends, teachers and family. A simple night of babysitting turns into something that will forever change the course of her young life. A knife swooshing through the air. Screams from afar. Noises that plays tricks with her mind. But not Laurie, she’s made of something stronger. Something that won't give up.
~ Laurie Strode's character biography.

Laurie appeared as a playable survivor in the survival horror video game Dead by Daylight alongside Michael Myers, in the Halloween DLC chapter.

Trivia[]

  • Emma Stone auditioned for the role of Laurie Strode in the remake.
  • Of all the female leads (all the girls are supposed to be in high school including Judith Myers), only the actress playing Laurie, Scout Taylor-Compton, was actually a teenager at the time of filming, much like how Jamie Lee Curtis, who played Laurie in the original Halloween (1978), was the only girl who was a teenager.
  • Danielle Panabaker auditioned for the role of Laurie Strode. Scout Taylor-Compton was cast instead. Two years later, Panabaker was cast as the female lead in Friday the 13th (2009), another horror remake. Compton had also auditioned for that role, but lost the role against Panabaker.
  • Director Rob Zombie originally wanted Danielle Harris to play Laurie Strode and Sheri Moon Zombie to play Lynda.
  • In the commentary for the film, Rob Zombie incorrectly states that Jamie Lee Curtis was in her 30s during the original Halloween (1978). She was actually 19 during the production.
  • The hoodie Laurie Strode (Scout Taylor-Compton) wears is from Sheri Moon Zombie's personal clothing line, Total Skull.
  • A young Jamie Lee Curtis was so disappointed with her performance that she became convinced she would be fired after only the first day of filming. When her phone rang that night and it was John Carpenter on the phone, Curtis was certain it was the end of her movie career. Instead, Carpenter called to congratulate her and tell her that he was very happy with the way things had gone.
  • As the film was shot out of sequence, John Carpenter created a fear meter so that Jamie Lee Curtis would know what level of terror she should be exhibiting.
  • John Carpenter considered the hiring of Jamie Lee Curtis as the ultimate tribute to Alfred Hitchcock, who had given her mother, Janet Leigh, legendary status in Psycho (1960).
  • All of the actors wore their own clothes, since there was no money for a costume department. Jamie Lee Curtis went to J.C. Penney for Laurie Strode's wardrobe. She spent less than one hundred dollars for the entire set. She shot the film while on hiatus from the sitcom Operation Petticoat: Operation Petticoat (1977).
  • Halloween was Jamie Lee Curtis' first feature film. She was paid a reported $8,000 for her efforts.
  • Anne Lockhart was John Carpenter's first choice for the role of Laurie Strode.
  • The 2018 timeline marks the first time that Laurie survives and actually succeeds in killing Michael or isn't dead in general, as her 4-6 timeline version died offscreen and her H20 timeline version was killed by Michael.
