Ian Hawke is the main antagonist of the Alvin and the Chipmunks film series. He is Dave Seville's arch-rival-turned-best friend and Alvin Seville's arch-nemesis-turned-ally.
He is portrayed by David Cross who also voiced Crane in Kung-Fu Panda, and Minion in Megamind.
Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked[]
Alvin and Ian convince Zoe to help save Dave. They then run towards the raft and escape the eruption. The Chipmunks and Chipettes perform at the International Music Awards. Ian also starts a new career as a screenwriter by selling a screenplay about Zoe's story to Hollywood, earning him his wealth back.

- Tom Cruise, Patton Oswalt, Brian Posehn, Steve Buscemi, Harry Shearer, the late James Caan, Paul Giamatti, Jeffrey Tambor, and Alec Baldwin were all considered for the role of Ian Hawke before David Cross was cast.
- Ian was going to become a major protagonist in Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip, where he helps Dave propose to Samantha and with David Cross reprising his role in the film. However, all of his scenes were deleted.
