Richard "Dick" Grayson, also know as Nightwing, was the first Robin and one of the main characters of Young Justice. The former protégé of Batman, Nightwing was a founding member of the Team. He assumed the leadership role of the covert operations team while Aqualad was in deep cover, infiltrating the Light to learn more about their activities. When Aqualad completed that mission, Nightwing turned the leadership role back over to him. As team leader, Nightwing acted as a mentor to the current Robin, Tim Drake.

He is voiced by Jesse McCartney, who also voices Roxas and Ventus.

Personality[]

He is an excellent hand-to-hand combatant, tactician, and a technological genius. He has a flippant personality, and can be heard laughing in combat or when sneaking up on villains in order to unnerve and startle them. He repeatedly plays with the English language, particularly with words which cease to function without prefixes, such as "disaster" ("aster"), "overwhelmed" ("whelmed"), and "distraught" ("traught").

Early Life[]

History[]

Dick Grayson is first shown as Robin, but then he's shown in his Nightwing identity in the Young Justice: Invasion episodes.

Robin is one of the founding members of the Young Justice and was originally attempting to become the leader, but because of his time working with Batman and the lack of vocal commands he passes the job to Aqualad who tells him once he is ready he will return the position to him. Dick continuity plays an important part for this team as the team's strategist and hacker. By the time Young Justice: Invasion begins, Dick Grayson had already assumed the mantle of Nightwing and became the leader of the Young Justice team. As Nightwing, Dick assumes command of the team filling the role once occupied by Batman however, unlike Batman, he also accompanied his teammates on missions like in the previous season. Dick's Nightwing costume is quite detailed incorporating black and grey like his mentor with the exception of a blue Nightwing crest branded across Dick's chest. Dick incorporates the use of escrima sticks in his combat more than in season 1.

Dick also takes a more serious approach to his combat during season 2 cutting down on wise cracks and taking down his opponents as swiftly as possible. Nightwing was one of the few members of the Young Justice team who knew that Aqualad and Artemis were undercover within the Light to try and discover their secrets and their mysterious partner, The Reach. Dick juggles secrets that, in the wrong hands, could spell the end for the deep cover operatives. Dick guides the team through its bleakest days and manages to, "stay whelmed". as more teammates began to get captured by the Reach, Dick begins his detective work and discovers that Jaime Rayes (Blue Beetle) was under Reach control. With the help of his teammates, Dick formulates a counterattack which results in freeing Blue and Green Beetle from Reach control.

Before their final assault on the Light, Dick relinquishes his command of the team and returns the post to Aqualad claiming he's, "happy to get that monkey off his back". Dick also joins Aqualad in crashing the Light's meeting with the Reach. Dick bears witness to Wally West's disappearance and takes the loss the hardest. After the final mission of the season, Dick tells Aqualad that he needs a break and needs time away from the team. He confidently reassures Aqualad that Batgirl would be able to fill his shoes while he's away.

In the third season of Young Justice: Outsiders he has been dating Barbara Gordon who is now going by the codename Oracle and is now wheelchair bound, and together have been fighting crime solo. However a new mission comes up where he has to sneak into the foreign country of Markovia where the crown King and Queen had been recently murdered, in order to stop an illegal child kidnapping operation. For the team he recruits Artemis who has been helping raise Lian with the clone Roy Harper (who goes by Will Harper now), Superboy who has been part of the new Young Justice team with his girlfriend, now fiancé Miss Martian and Black Lighting who has recently quite the Justice League after a traumatic experience where he accidently killed a child that was turned into a monster. The four of them sneak into the Markovia with fake identities and find the location that is supposed to be holding the children in a hospital, only to learn that the situation is far worse than simple child trafficking. The children have also been being experimented on to try an activate their dormant meta-genes, in order to use their powers for financial and military gains.
